Another uneventful ride in on a beautiful morning. Only thing that stands out is that I'm wearing a button down shirt. (I always commute in my street clothes.) No big deal... I can wear most anything for a three mile commute with only one hill of note.
|
6 weeks of bike commuting at least once per week, 7 straight work days plus errands CAR-FREE!
Nice commute in... a little on the warm side for the amount of clothes I wore. I am really getting sick of the backpack. If I can be consistent for another month or two I can justify dropping the $$$ on a new commuter bike and rack pannier set-up. |
No commute. Didn't want to risk a total breakdown of my RD while splitting lanes on Lexington Ave. Bike goes to the LBS after I get home using the subway. Blah.

First wipe out ever!
Due to a left knee injury I've not been commuting every day like I used to (only 4 times since Jan-12) This AM I was making a right turn in a parking lot road (near end destination) and the wheels when out from under me. I was fine except for rash on right knee, bike OK, lost the computer and top plastic cover off of left brifter. It really puzzles me as I did not think I was going fast, road was clean. There is a shallow dip on corner due to two concrete gutters that go across each road at corner. Other factors may have been me being off of bike so much. Anyway its my first wipeout in over 10k mi. My main annoyance is that headunit for computer was run over by a car. Al |
Great ride to work today. I broke out my full suspension bike just to ride a little offroad before work. It was warm today, for a winter's day. Had to be about 49. So far at work I have not seen any other riders. I hope the rest of the week is this warm. Have a good night.
|
A spirited commute home, but basically uneventful. I've taken to wearing ear warmers to help keep me a bit warmer. It's a bit too warm for flat and uphill sections, but it keeps me comfortable on the downhill section near the beginning of my commute home.
|
Tough! I don't have a really long commute (New York City, Manhattan, Battery Park City, up the Hudson River bikepath, across 42nd Street to Lexington Avenue and the Chrysler Building), but the headwinds this morning at about 7:15 were intense. I was riding a couple of gears lower than I usually do, and still working harder than most days, and of course going slower. The upside is that if the wind holds up, I won't have to pedal all the way home.

Nice ride today, bright sun, 33°F, light wind & light traffic. I made good time with a safe commute, so it's all good. I even noticed one woman checking her mirror before opening her car door, what a sweetheart . |
Had a very nice ride in this morning. Rode into the sunrise with temps in the low 40s. Had to point and yell at some young kids in a truck this morning trying to turn left in front of me at an intersection but other than that nothing out of the ordinary happened. Made pretty good time too because of a tailwind and I only caught one redlight :)

Nice ride this morning, pedal to lunch with a friend, installing a new BB this afternoon, and CM tonight! It's all about the bike...today at least. And the weather is picking up, though it was surprisingly brisk for being in the 40's this morning. And if I ever doubted my moustache bars, I got stopped by a very cute girl commuter last night who wanted to find out about the very comfortable bars.

Pretty good ride home last night, but had to break out the granola bar I keep stashed in my vest. For some reason, got that sorta "wilting" feeling about 5 miles in. Munch on the granola bar over the course of a couple miles, couple swigs of H20 (honest!) and I was fine for the rest of the way. Rode without the pack again, and the time got better in spite of the fact that the wind shifted during the day making my expected tailwind a headwind part of the way.
Noisebeam - glad to hear you're okay. Tough luck about the 'puter... better that than you getting run over by a car! |
Great ride home yesterday. Big, dark clouds on the horizon gave me incentive to push the pedals more. Nippy, but pretty awesome. Very windy, but it was at my back for 2/3rds of the way.
I loved it. |
Awesome ride in! I made it to the top of the big hill before I realized I was halfway up it. Next week I'm thinking about riding my wife's 'bent it.
|
Bleah! The conditions are getting worse and worse. There was so much snow I almost couldn't ride downhill. I hope it gets colder - the snow will set up as hardpack and ice everywhere, and I can ride safely once more. It's a meagre -12C today with a light snow falling.
|
Had fresh tracks down edworthy park road this morning. I'm down to about 10 psi on my 700x30's, seems to be working I haven't fallen....yet. It definetly was the worst this morning, I was cyclocrossing over the snowbanks and the roads are just chop suey (we don't plow side roads here). Of course it doesn't help that after three days of snow build up, I have no breaking power. The bike sure looks neat though.
|
First Fixed Commute Today! I got up early to futz with my chain and install a front brake on my new fixie commuter, "El Azulejo," a bright blue '88 Trek 660. And thank goodness I did install that brake, as I needed it at the intersections.
A perfect morning for riding a bike, calm and clear and cool, and I arrived at the office with a huge smile on my face. God, I love this bike. |
hmmm, tried to post this late last night with no success. Here 'tis again (hope it's not reposted somehow):

nice ride in this am. Bike path empty but for an occasional jogger. I keep seeing the same smiling woman on her new folding bike lately going the opposite direction. Very late ride home tonight. Gorgeous still black river with a thin coat of ice forming. A huge bird, I'm pretty sure it was the hawk I see hanging out in the same area during the day- this thing is massive- dropped off a branch and coasted by my head and floated on down the river flapping nary a wing just riding the still air of night. Bunches of rabbits (the prey of the hawk) did their suicidal dances across the bike path in the section I call Watership Downs. A very nice ride home. |
A good commute in this morning. The snow went north and missed us. It was 15F/-9C and cloudy. It's partly cloudy now and in the 20's (F), should make for a nice lunch run and I just might take the long way home.

After weeks of high pressure sitting over us in Puget Sound, a storm system came through and freezing levels fell last night and coated Seattle roads in an inch or two of snow and ice. I made my way down Capitol Hill via 10th Ave passing car after car. All of the city buses couldn't make it down the hill so they dumped their unhappy riders off a little before 10th/Boston.
A little slippin' a little slidin' but made way for a fun commute today! |
|
No leftovers to pack so I planned to run to Subway today. They closed the one in the gas station 1 mile away! So I rode to the next one and got a bonus 7 miles in at lunch! Can't beat that. Except that 7 miles in street clothes, even with taking it easy and just a vented rain jacket over a T-shirt still left me very sweaty. I think some of us just sweat easy.
20*F this morning, 31*F now, clear and nice out. Nice, but I find myself dreaming of spring and taking the Nokians off. |
Today was a wet commute. The morning was dry. The weather people said it isnt going to rain until tommorw at about noon, well guess what its raining still right now, a half hour after I got back. I had no rain jacket, fenders. And to make it worse, the rain was cold and I had a short sleeve shirt on. I got out of most if the rain by riding off road under the bridge, but I still got soaked. :(

Bike is in the shop
So I worked from home today And I took a nap :D |
whew, my one way commute is just under 11 miles door to door and the elevation gain is probably no more than 100' but today the ride home compared to my rides up Mt. Greylock (highest point in Massachusetts) where the route to the top is an 8 1/2 mile ride that climbs a good 2000'. The wind was brutally in my face the whole way home and to get the bike to go much more than 11mph took tremendous effort at times. I saw two adult men blown over by the wind downtown and one little girl attempting to climb into a mini-van slammed to the ground. Trash barrels were blowing by and tree branches coming down on the bike path. There were white caps on the Charles River. Needless to say a tough ride home.
