No commute again today. Working from home and expecting my new bike from UPS today except when I went to check the status at 10:45 am, it hadn't been sent out for delivery yet! Argh! UPS better not bang up my bike or I'm gonna be pi$$ed.

Ok, I've got to ask: What kind of bike?

Huge wind and rain last night but this morning was clear and calm. Gorgeous, in fact. I rode the fixie to breakfast with my officemates. One of our staffers is retiring and we had little prework going away party. I'm stuffed with egg and potato right now.

Weather this am was stunning 55° calmish and clear.

Last night , I polished, cleaned and lubed the drivetrain, must have pedaled and shifted both derailleurs back and forth a dozen times in the stand... perfect.

This morning, the VERY first time I shift small ring to big, the cable slips in the der clamp. So I got to spin on in in the 38t small ring. Didn't feel too bad, actually. It makes the starts from red lights a bit quicker...

And I had a wind shell on, which was too much. Arm warmers woulda sufficed for the first 10 minutes. Was having a nice sauna, by mile 6.

I rode to work today with the great hope of being caught in an afternoon rainshower on the way home. Unfortunately it now looks like it won't happen.

WOO-HOO! A lovely day here in the SE. 73* crystal clear blue sky and even some courteous cagers
Sunset at 6:20something means daylight for the ride home. YAY!

Well, I'm not getting the 50-70 degree weather some of you are getting but I'm enjoying our tropical 34F and sunny skies (it was 17F when I left the house this morning). I had to go to one of my other offices this morning so I had over 30 miles in by lunch time. It's so nice out I'm probably going to take the long way home after work. Bring on spring, I'm ready!

today was my return to the saddle after being out for a week due to illness. temps in the high 30's low 40's for most of the day and some pretty decent winds (around 15MPH from the North).

the ride in was cool... I rode with my new eyewear (Tifosi Forza T-F320's with clear lenses) for the first time today... that'll definitely help protect against bugs and rocks (I've been lucky in that department so far) and I only had a couple minor fogging problems. I left way later than I wanted to but luckily I didn't run into any bad traffic stackups. did encounter a couple tailgaters though. other than that it was a good ride in. I was behind a truck for the last quarter-mile or so, that cut down my wind resistance a lot.

before the ride back I rode around CP for a while. my lock mount broke off at one point, luckily I was three blocks away from my LBS when this happened. they put on a new one no problem and I was good to go. I'm really glad I have a good LBS. rode around for a little while longer, went up and down the PB trail, then headed home through a howling 15MPH headwind. my shifting started getting rough and my chain slipped off about a block away from my house... my first reaction to this was "already? I've only ridden like three times since my last cleaning/lubing." oh well. all in all a good ride today.

Charles River ice covered. the ice formed in wild, buckling sheets on portions due to the constant winds from the north west (we are getting the cold air from you guys in Alberta- thanks) the ride in this am was about 13F the ride home a bit more. But much less wind so it felt comfortable. Because I had a surge of feeling good as I left work I did some "telephone sprints" on the way home (picking a pole or a light post and sprinting to the next landmark- another pole or light post). Did a whole bunch of these in a row and wore myself out and seriously bonked about a 1/2 mile from home. Then remembered I'd planned to grocery shop (another 1 mile further). I struggled on to the grocery store and then crawled home with two grocery bags in the milkcrate. Ate like a pig when I got in the house. Between the frigid cold, the wind, the studded tires, all the clothing it feels like I'm working like a dog on the bike. It'll be nice to ride in one day in shorts and a tee shirt and a narrower profile tire.

You said it my man! The wind has been killer this past week as I had a major ear ache riding home lastnight. Once I got home, I had to ride to Hollywood Video to return DVD's that my wife rented .

Awkward ride this morning, lots of Buses to pass and dodge. They were stacked at the stops so I had to take them two at a time. Out of the saddle to get around the Buses, only to find someone up ahead making a right turn in my path. That's today's commute in a nutshell.

Another unusually warm morning ride, it was 48F on the way up the hill. Weather is supposed to return to winter sometime tonight...bummer on that.
Might get some rain this afternoon for the ride home. Although I told myself several times to toss in the rain jacket, it think it's still in the bike bag in my closet. It will be a soggy ride home in a sweatshrit if it rains. Oh well, still more fun than driving

Really like the new PlanetBike 10W light. The beam is a bit broader than the old NiteRider Road Rat. I think that makes it easier for cars to see you from side streets. Plus it's funky stylish... style is everything.

0/1 for March 29/34 for the year. I had to drive today and it felt strange. Back on the bike for tomorrow!

I went to work early today, 3:45AM. It was pretty dark. It took about ten minutes to get to the office. On the way there a police car shined a light on me.

My commute consisted of me wondering why my legs felt tired and sore. Then I blasted to work a minute under my usual time. And my legs still felt tired and sore. I think I need coffee.

Studded tires are my friend, and the colder temperatures are doing a good job of consolidating the snow. I had to really put the hammer down this morning - traffic was moving quickly and it was a mad sprint for the last 1/2 of my ride. I felt stronger than I have in a while. It was good...

Congrats!

An uneventful commute in this morning. Took it easy since I actually got up this morning for my pre-breakfast ride. But not too easy... still not using granny gears on my climb in. I can now make it up with a reasonable cadence sitting.

Had to drive in today for a job offsite this morning. Which is very unfortunate since it is already about 75 outside and sunny here. I am riding in for sure tomorrow with temps going up above 80 near the record. I will be breaking out the sleeveless shirt for the ride home tomorrow
