A lady pulled out in front of me and nearly cut me off today.

She had a "Share the Road" bumper sticker on her car.

I thought about flipping her off and saying, "Share This!"...

- but I resisted the urge.

jyossarian 05-17-06 03:21 PM

I buzzed a bus on the way home. That's about it.

That means I'll also be heading home much later. Hmmm. What surprises will the cycling gods (or traffic gods) have for me today??? :o

Gee, I was so busy at work today (still at work) I forgot to post anything.
The traffic was the same on a few roads, lighter on others.

I wore my HHCMF shirt (orange) today. Sure was bright in the 9:00 sun. I think motorists could see me for blocks. :D

Heading out for the Ride of Silence in a few minutes.
Not sure if any other BF members will be there. Maybe my HHCMF shirt will "identify" me if any other BF members are there.
I heard from one who is doing the other ROS. We're having two rides that I know of in different parts of town. Last year I believe we had 4 rides.

Be safe.

The ride home was great today because for once that god d@mned Albuquerque wind wasn't blowing like it usually is.

We must have had it here in Arizona. The wind was blowing so hard it almost stopped me in my tracks coming home.

Great and fast both ways. No drivers buzzed me, greast weather. Looking for ward to Bike To Work Day tomorrow.

Rain !!

tokolosh 05-18-06 12:10 AM

yesterday said 25 celsius when i went past the display - at 9:30 am. oy. heat doesn't seem to be my element for bike commuting. pumped my tires a little before coming home yesterday, and tried to eat ice all day long, but i think ima have to face facts and start drinking water again. not really a water fan, me.

the ride home was nice though. i didn't leave until 7:30 or something, so it was cooling down and i got a bit of incipient-sunset and some wind as i crossed the bridge. nice n peaceful. light on water is good.

today i drove due to ball game, and as usual there's a traffic whammy on the days when i drive to save time. the city's car fiends should all club together and pay me to bike everywhere, a new kind of protection racket. missed my kid's 'beautiful bunt', but i did get to see him steal home in a glorious cloud-of-dust slide. two days left in this week.

RonH 05-18-06 05:31 AM

Got home last night from the ROS at 9:10 PM. Had to be up this morning at 5:45 AM. I'm tired. :(
Gonna be a slow ride to work today. No hill charging for me. :o

jeff-o 05-18-06 05:52 AM

Rain again, I got wet. I'll be dry in two or three hours.

amward 05-18-06 06:43 AM

Lots of rain today, but fortunately quite warm; other than getting waterlogged, it was a fairly comfortable ride for a rainy one.

It was actually pouring so hard when I got to the MUP part of my trip that my bell made a nearly in-audible "plink" sound rather than its regular "ding." Never even considered rain performance when picking a bell...

luckysnafu 05-18-06 07:09 AM

Another great morning means another nice ride in. A little warmer this morning though so I was pretty hot by the time I got to work. Saw some more cyclists on my way home last night and the news had coverage of the local ROS. I didn't even know they were having one around here otherwise I would have attended. Next year I will though.

jyossarian 05-18-06 07:28 AM

Took it nice and easy on the way in in an effort to keep the sweating to a minimum and for the most part it worked. Still sweaty, but not as bad as yesterday. Traffic was terrible too which kept me from going too fast.

+1 though of COURSE it's the one day of the week I HAVE to take the short route home (Wednesday just started up summer bowling so I gotta go straight home to get cleaned up for that...)

On another note...if your ever out someplace (say a bowling alley in New Mexico for example) and see that they have deep fried Jalapenos...and think they would go great with a big cup of root beer...I don't recomend eating an entire order of them. Really, you just need a few, and then FOR GAWDS SAKE, GIVE SOME AWAY!

Due to deep fried Jalapeno's after effects, I spent extra time "getting ready" this morning, and didn't get out the door in time for my long ride.

Had a fun ride home yesterday. On the path above 96 st up through 125th, me and another rider were trading off doing about 25-27 mph.

Had my second flat in a month this morning, and all from pumping up the back tire. The valve stem got cut last time and broke off this time when I tried to take the pump adapter off the valve. Nice ride in anyway.

pinkrobe 05-18-06 08:37 AM

Still had to come in early today, but I got an extra hour of sleep [missed my alarm]. Fast and clean on the way in, too warm for shants!

WhiteRabbit 05-18-06 08:40 AM

Nice outside and light traffic, but I felt like lead. I don't know if it is allergies or if I'm coming down with a bit of a cold, but I am so slow today. Ugh...

Luckysnafu, you might want to subscribe to the RTP bike commuters mailing list. It had several announcements about the ROS. It also has lots of info about other advocacy stuff in the area. The url is http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/rtp_bike_ped.

My commute: Better than yesterday's, when I broke a spoke just as I arrived at work. Got the spoke replaced last night, but it made me miss the ROS (plus I didn't want to tell my wife about the Ride. We have an unspoken agreement. I don't tell her about the incredibly stupid/dangerous things I see drivers do during my commutes, and she doesn't try to convince me to stop riding. Attending a ride to remember those injured/killed while cycling would be like waving a flag in front of her).

vtjim 05-18-06 10:03 AM

Rain. All 6.4 miles of it. 50F degrees. No wind. Instrument meteorological conditions. :)

There were still a few die-hard types out training for the marathon.

My bike is filthy.

jack, What you failed to realize is that the bumper sticker was an instruction to you and all the other vehicle operators on her road.

Bike-to-work day today here in the San Francisco Bay Area. My route took me to two Energizer stations. Got lots of freebies. One dude at the Fremont REI was just yappin' away with the station volunteer. I could tell that the yapper was boring the hell out of the volunteer. I don't think the yapper is a real commuter, just there to yap and get freebies. He was not in a hurry to get anywhere. :D

It was a good wind.
This chart shows the 10-min averaged wind speed for past 6 days in Tempe. Note the wind increase that occurs nearly every PM commute:

Nice ride today, no dramas that I can recall. Potholes in the B.U. Bridge have have been paved out so it's easier to take the lane and stay with traffic. After work rides have been great. I put down 25miles yesterday, I'll do about 15 today and again on Saturday....my first Century is Sunday :D.

I missed my miles goal because of all the rain we had so I'll have to pace myself, I'm use to short hammering rides.

jumpr 05-18-06 10:57 AM

Big headwind today on my way into work. I hope that means I'll have a tailwind on the way back!

Brian Sorrell 05-18-06 11:13 AM

Getting Speedier

My daily commute, short though it is, involves crossing one major street. I usually wait with the cars at the light, then try to take off ahead of them and get going a good clip before we all stop at the first stop sign -- about a block away. My goal is to make it up to the 25 mph speed limit before reaching the sign.

Today was the best ever: 24.4.

I'm almost there!!
