I was starving when I left the house this morning. All I could think of was a frosty Coke and a yummy bacon 'n' egger. I was so low on energy that I had to take a slow route to work. :( Now that I'm refueled, I'm ready to take on the day. Or at least the morning. :)

Hi all - I started last year - made my first run today. 7 miles each way - can't wait to get back on and ride home!
|
Welcom b1ker!
Rode the go-fast bike today as the fixie woke up with a flat tire. Which is reason in itself why you need at least two bikes. The ride was pretty unremarkable other than having to stop and move a sandwich board that a construction crew had placed in the middle of the bike lane. I hopped off the bike, picked up the sign, and moved it into the parking space, waved to the hardhat guy standing there, and went on. |
Today - The Pits - Bad Tire Valve to Start the Day
Today was just one of those days. Could not get my act together, felt clumsy getting the gear on the bike, so late start. Then, my rear tire would not take air from my foot pump, so I switched to CO2. That worked. Climbed the hills a litte stronger today than Monday. Arrived at work and dropped water bottle top-first onto dirty floor of garage. Then, I attached the carry strap to my Trek rack bag, only to have the contents spill out on the parking lot because I had not buckled the back clip. Left shirt in cubicle when I went to change, had to wear wet jersey back to cubicle.
To top it all off, I had a low blood-sugar attack mid-morning. Feeling VERY grouchy! However, I am above ground. God is good, and tomorrow is another day.:) Deaconbam |
Today's commute report from Central NJ
Never got to bed until 11:30. WAtching the Phils/Mets game. Up at 5, seriously debating whether to do the ride in or not. My foot was sore (running injury). My back was tweaked from my workout yesterday. I dawdled around, had a bowl of cereal. Walking the dogs, the sun started to come up and it seemed like a fine morning. So I said "Woe is me. Just pedal."
So I did. Turned out to be one of my best - and interesting - rides in. At the 7 mile mark, I popped my chain off. Had to pull over to get it realigned. Then just after that, police are blocking the road. Detour on Route 206. Turned out to only be 8/10ths of a mile, so it wasn't too bad. Then, as I'm sitting in a whole line of traffic in Somerville, NJ, waiting for a light to change, this old guy next to me rolls down his window and says (I thought he was going to scold me about something) "You practicing for the race?" I said "No, just riding to work." I knew what he meant though. Every Memorial Day, Somerville holds the Tour de Somerville, a decent size bike race (The U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame is in Somerville. Go figure). Then I said "Just trying to save some gas money." He goes, as only an old codger can "Eh. It don't hit the rich." I just thought that was really funny. Then again, he was driving one of those big old Caddies. One of those days though that you're glad you rode. Weather was great and it started the day off better. 13.3 miles in just under an hour. |

I started commuting again today after a huge hiatus. For the most part it was pretty smooth, other than my pannier holding my laptop fell off the bike. My new route is shorter than it used to be, so I will have to start adding arbitrary miles soon.
|
kinda rough getting back on the bike....not the record times I expected. 5 days is an eternity it seems to be off the bike! did 7 mile route as after mile 1 it became aparent that 20 miles was gonna be pushing it. 7 Miles home is the plan...
|
The ride was totally uneventful this morning. :) Warm and sunny. My kinda weather.
Waved at a commuter I see almost every day. He didn't acknowledge. Went out at lunch and had to drag myself back to work. It was SO gorgeous I just HAD to eat on the patio of the restaurant. Warm sun, light breeze, peace and quiet. The giant cookie that I had for dessert just about put me over the edge. :p Good thing I'm riding home so I can work off all 900 calories. |
NM, Yeah, muscle seems to be lost more quickly than put on...You'd think it would be the other way around!
Rain, Rain Rain |
We watched "The 40 year old Virgin" last night, and my wife made some snide comment about my hair looking like that guys, so I rode my bike to work today just to complete the immage. 18 miles each way, great ride.
|
Looked like rain Yesterday morning,so I rode the MTB in. Then I got a call from my wife that I needed to take her to the hospital. Ride home was faster than heck, even considering the MTB vs. the roadbike. Amazing how fast it'll go in an emergency. My wife is ok now, and amazed at the time I made coming home. Probably close to time by car. I had a good incentive to speed.

pretty good... morning was nice, afternoon was hot, as usual! not much to report. used my new bell to alert a ped of my presence and he moved over. I said thank you.
|
...no commute today, major thunder storm this am.....
|
Thanks jyossarian and silverexpress for the tips! I'm going to look into a rack for the laptop because I really want to use it and don't feel safe leaving it at the site. Commute Day 2 was nice. Went by myself-- my ride partner wussed out after day one-- citing a grip of technical problems. I actually prefer riding alone so I'm actually psyched about it. Weather was great again, warm in the sun and nice and cool under shady trees. Some psycho in a huge SUV honked at me then pulled into the lane to my left then cut in front of me and sped off. I guess I was going too slow for him. Otherwise, great ride. Love seeing all the bike commuters out in the morning.
|
I rode my new (used) recumbent today for the 2nd time in 2 days. I'm really enjoying it.
|
1000 miles for the year. The fleet is in town. While its fun to see the ships, the throngs of crowds this afternoon are going to suck.
|
Ok, 3rd try posting. Let's se if it works.

Anyway, I didn't commute today because we're supposed to be getting some nasty thunderstorms here. Yesterday was awesome though. Anyone ever notice how riding for even one day changes your outlook for the whole week? Yesterday I was generally wide awake and happy. Today I am super relaxed and my legs feel great. I'm actually wishing that I had ridden in today. |
On my way home last night I stopped in at Lowe's to have a key duplicated. As I was walking through the store with my bike one of the employees who I was walking by said "Hey, we allow pets in here, but no bikes!" I was starting to say something back when he said he was just kidding and asked me how my day was going :D Scared me for a minute though since I have taken my bike in there before. Ride this morning was humid and hot. Almost 70 when I left and it is going to get near 90 this afternoon with a chance of thunderstorms. This is my 10th straight day of commuting to work, a record for me :)

Awfull. non-existant. My "family fun trip" to Las Vegas has me all screwed up. I can't sleep, can't ride...I dunno what I'm gonna do. I suppose this weekend I'll just sleep in as late as freakin possible and hope that gets me back on schedule.
I slept through my alarm this morning, my wife woke me up as she was getting ready for work. I had time to shower and drive in, but no way I woulda gotten here on time if I'd riden. Guess it's OK, I have to go get my eye glasses fixed, I dropped them on my way to the car on Monday and someone ran over them. It's just not my week I guess. |
Wow. The humidity is back
I've been cooling off for over 30 minutes while sitting at the computer at work and I'm just about ready to change into my work clothes. :o Strange how you forget during the winter just how warm and wet you can get on the morning ride. All my coworkers wear cotton pants, shorts, t-shirts during the summer. I don't know how they can ride in the humidity wearing that stuff. |
I had one friggin beer last night and I was burning up and sweating like a pig during the ride in, I felt all thirsty and weak. I cut way back in the last year so I can really feel one beer.

Hey all, havent posted a ride update lately since nothing interesting has occurred until today...
I was on a road that runs parallel to a railroad track, so there ar 3 lanes heading in the same direction, then the railroad tracks, then the other 3 lanes going the other way.. so there are places along the track where cars can cross over... I reach one of those places and I don't have any stop signs or anything (just the cars attempting to cross) .. so as I come up to one such crossing, one lady stops, watches me, then goes safely across, then just as I'm getting to the interseciton, the SUV behind her watches me, then goes across right in front of me!! I Had to slam both brakes and yell at the top of my lungs.. lucky for me he had his window down and I know he heard me because he turned his head and I called him a few good names =) Anyway.. I'm still here to talk about it. Thank goodness for brakes !!!!!!!! |
I watched the Lost season finale last night, and then lay awake in bed thinking about it. Then I realized my allergies were in full swing [weed-whacked the back yard last night], and I couldn't breathe very well. Tossed and turned all freaking night. This morning, it was like Dawn of the Dead. I was shuffling around like a zombie. On the ride in, my legs were all good, but I just didn't have the will to live. I still managed to catch every cyclist ahead of me, and quite a few cars. All my random route decisions paid off bigtime, as I made it to work faster than usual.

I'm a little surprised. Last night was a late one, as usually happens this time of year. As I'm slinging on my bag, one of the secretaries notices my pretty Italian bike shoes and asks "How are you getting home? On your bike?"
When I said yes, I was expecting the gasp, the dropped jaw, the warnings about drunks and crazies. But all she said was "Oh, that's nice. It's great that you ride your bike everywhere." Uh, yeah! It is great! |
