well, i drove today as planned, thanks to the aforementioned baseball game. but i just had to say this:
we came home in the dark and the rain, and i counted at least three people on bikes with nothing but the reflective strips on the backs of their tights to say they were there. believe me. if you don't have blinkies and scotchlite on you - you need to get them.

Besides the Jerky in the box truck who buzzed me crossing Mass.Ave, the commute was uneventful...just the way I like it.

Had a nice ride in this morning. Wasn't planning on riding but my gf said she would take me to work tomorrow since I am flying out of town instead of me driving in and leaving my bags at work today. Saw another cyclist out who said good morning to me after we climbed a hill. Another warm and sticky day here so it will be a hot ride home. My last commute for over a week today though
since I will be at a conference all next week up in New England

The ride home yesterday was at a bit of a rushed pace; I was being chased down by giant black thunderclouds. The rain only just caught me as I was riding up my street, so I didn't get soaked. I spent the next half hour watching the torrential rain, watching for lightning, and wondering how I would cook dinner with the power out.
This morning was nice. The rain had washed all the tree pollen away, and the air was fresh. It would have been nice to ride a bit longer...

Couldn't post yesterday because of website problems, but to summarize:
- fast
- passed everybody
- filtered on the way home to great effect
Today, cranked it in pretty fast, didn't get stuck anywhere for very long.

As I left yesterday the bike rack was nearly full. ALL of our commuters rode in! Way to go guys!
And this morning, the new bike I saw on the rack during BTWW was back, so we may have added another person to our ranks.

A little light rain this morning. Nothing soaking or anything like that. Lots of runners out, but no cyclists.
I missed a big bad thunderstorm yesterday afternoon.

Went to work early today so traffic was light, and car fumes were minimal. I took my time and had a leasurly pace the whole way.
This is only day two for biking to work hopefully I can keep it up all summer. I need to find a way to bring coffee with me.

Something deeply satisfying about seen a patrol car with a bike rack and no bike. Even better when I switched lanes and passed him. Who said the morning commute had to be dull?
Rode 340 'car avoidance' bike commuter miles for the month of May. Travel, graduations took away from the max potential of 440 but I am very happy with my May bike commute record. Only whimmped out one day and drove. And it was all done on an old old 820 Trek MTB with MTB tires!
Today, the first day of June, I found myself getting a bit bored of the ride after the first 20 minutes. I guess that is the nature of the commute regardless of mode. Now that the kids are out of school the wife rode yesterday with me. 17.3 average in Memphis on a mtb was not too bad I thought. Only two lights slowed us down

Well, yesterday was great - light traffic (got out of work early), and I beat the rain home by about an hour. Today, however, was another story. Not one, but two flats! I had to walk the last couple of miles home, because I didn't have spare tubes with me. Quick trip to the LBS fixed that, and now I know exactly how to change a tube. Can't wait to get back on the road again tomorrow - the weather is getting better by the day.

no ride today :-( had to run some errands at lunch that are a little far for doing on the bike :-) I've been draggin a bit all day...nothing wakes me up like a ride anymore...not even coffee! Got new goodies in the mail yesterday and today (one of the errands was run by the PO and pick up a performance package) got new arm and leg warmers, a new blinky, new socks, AND a nice nashbar underseat pack/rack. it's like a knock off moots tailgator. Mounted up pretty nice and will work great for my tour in Colorado at the end of the month. Not really big enough to put clothes in for a commute though...

Saw two other commuters this morning. Nice ride today but my butt has been dragging all week. My m-in-law fell on Monday so my wife and I have had to spend WAY TOO MUCH time with her after work.
My eating has been off too. Either eating too much, too little, the wrong things, or eating at the wrong time. Because of you know who we FINALLY got to eat at 8:15 last night (we usually eat around 6:00) and once again I just gulped down whatever was in the fridge.
Gotta get her straightened out so our lives can get back to normal -- whatever that is.

Minneapolis to St. Paul...
Little damp this morning. Just took my single speed for it's first ride since repainting and putting new BB, cranks, pedals, and brakes. Rode great, but the freewheel is making knocking noises I think.
It's a beautiful day in Minnesota, so I'm looking forward to the ride home.

Great!
Added 16 miles to my 6-mile commute home, rode a few roads I haven't seen for a while. I'm definitely loving it!

a box full of american candy arrived on my doorstep sometime this morning and my kid, in full not-a-morning-person mode, moved it inside (with one foot, probably) and went off to school without telling me. fell over it when i got into executive mode and was on my way to my bike.
so. late start this morning, because of course it had to be opened while on the phone to the sender and all. for some reason this made me a full 10% faster than my usual time when i did head out. it was a really, really nice ride - i'm not sure what's making so many of the rides so pleasant these days.
it's been pretty weird, neat weather all week. warm, really grey and really really humid. like living inside fog that just happens to be invisible. it's been winter, basically, but 15 or 20C warmer. going home was neat because to look at it from inside you sure thought you were going to get cold and rained on, and arrive home soaking wet. but it never rained on me at all. stopped at the grocery store for one of those we'll-eat-real-food-tonight things, and like usual bought too much to go in the bag.
i had it all outside on the sidewalk, and was methodically unpacking everything (map book, half-knitted sock, baseball schedule, balled-up morning-commute shirt wrapped around balled-up morning-commute socks, four defunct blinkies, loose batteries, loose 5's and 10's, hairbrush, pens) and then packing it back in again, trying to find places for the two super-giant-jumbo boxes of cereal and fit everything in around them, when i looked up and saw myself being Looked At by . . . one of the other baseball moms. i guess she'd brought her teenaged daughter along to help her load the 24s of pepsi and coke into the suv. she was giving me a Very Odd Look. i'm not sure she was too thrilled to have been caught seeing me, but i can't figure out if she was embarrassed herself or just thought i should be. sigh; i know plenty of those people who never think twice about living in cars, but when it gets right down to it i don't seem to understand them at all. she offered in this disoriented, feeble-guess sort of way to drive my corn pops home for me
, but then when i said 'oh no thanks,' she didn't go away either. she seemed to have been caused puzzlement in some deep-seated, critical-hit sort of way that confused me too. i can't figure out what all that was about, but i guess i might find out at tomorrow's game.
kind of hope so; she confused me so much with her confusion i'm not going to sleep until the mystery's solved. i'd be curious as heck if i wasn't so uninterested.
game close to home tomorrow
it's another bike day.

Good ride today, got to work and it started raining just after I got inside. I work nights so I'm hoping for a cool ride home in the morning, hopefully not too humid.

My ride took a bit of a twist today - literally. Today at work they had most of the parking lot blocked off for a big BBQ in the afternoon. So naturally, I took this golden opportunity to do a few figure-8s in the parking lot! What fun! I think everyone here would be a little bit happier in the morning, if they could do figure 8s on a recumbent trike in the parking lot...

Nice commute this morning. Cool air, light tailwind, and sunny. A woman on a Commuter Tank appeared from a dirt path and turned in front of me into the MUP. (Not right in front of me.)
The bike had the biggest pannier I have ever seen. It was the size of one of those rolling carry on bags you see flight crews using sometimes. She was also wearing a backpack.
The bike had fenders as well.
She was moving right along on it, too. I was happy to hang behind her for the whole ride. I noticed she had pretty good-sized leg muscles.

Very good ride this morning. I'm house-sitting this weekend so I get to try a few different routes to work. This morning I took a short cut through the cemetary, which was noticably cooler than the streets.
