Howdy,
Today might be the first real 100 degree day this year, the big problem will be the air quality, we are getting bad air from all of the forest fires in the west plus all of the auto's help to make our air quality rating red for this afternoon.
I guess I'll have to hold my breath for an hour and 5 minutes on the way home.
M.R.

the traffic was awful today, i went in to work at about 1PM and then returned about 6-7 and at 1 , it was solid and ANGRY as hell and at 6-7 it was just solid, i had to weave between the cars so much, it was a pain.

I rode the Bomber in again today. It's a early 90s Specialized Hardrock that I bought it this spring at a garage sale for $40. I got it mostly for pulling my kids' trailer but I've been commuting on it about half the time and I'm really enjoying it. I added a rack, bar ends, and put on a comfy old-style Avocet saddle. These all came out of the spare parts bin. So I'm still at a net $40 for the whole thing.
And the thing is a kick to ride. Plus, it is so incredibly ugly (gray with aqua decals and plenty of surface rust), that I have no fear of locking it up on the street.
It's the best $40 I've spent in a long time.

You can't have a pirate without ARRRRRRRR!
The ride in was okay, despite the fact that I was lugging a laptop and three textbooks. Bleagh. I felt totally dead on the way home. It was like I was riding into a headwind coming out of the parking garage and it never went away. Even down hills I felt sluggish. I'm sleepy.

is the best word to describe the ride home.Met up with two other commuters about 2+ miles from work. We rode together for about 2 miles, then parted company. Nice having someone to talk with.
No riding tomorrow.
My boss asked me to drive.
We're doing a mass mailing and I have to deliver ~500 pre-sorted letters to the post office.Oh well. There is one redeeming quality to the plan. I get to leave work early so I can get to the post office before it closes.

Morning commute started with front flat - in my garage! It was a slow puncture leak that must have happened on the ride home yesterday.
Very humid ride home. The car traffic I encountered was very heavy (2/3 of commute is on MUP). Rolled in home early (left 10 min early) and beat a huge downpour by 5 minutes. OH, only one bunny (the furry kind) today.

last commute as a college student...
already hot and muggy by the time I left in the morning. packed the rain gear since there was talk of thunderstorms and it was looking stormy outside. took the shoulder-of-the-45mph-main-road route in. pretty fast and nothing out of the ordinary.
left at 7... way later than I usually do. still hot and muggy. the thunderstorms never materialized, in fact the sun was out by the time I left. took the same route back that I took in. nothing out of the ordinary, it was a fast and fun ride. I was in a pretty bad mood when I left but the ride back definitely improved my mood immensely and was in a good mood by the time I got back. great ride today!

Ride home yesterday was way hot. The dew point was 74, heat index 103F. I took it really easy as I prefer not to pass out on the side of the Rd. No biking in today. I considered it, but thunderstorms are forecast for the pm. Besides, driving in is a good opportunity to swap out dirty clothes for clean so I have a fresh start on Tuesday (Monday is a vacation day....Woo Hoo)

Not too bad, heat & humidity-wise. This weekend is supposed to be abhorrent, by Vermont standards. 90Fs...
I rode behind a 20-something guy with a messenger bag on a red hybrid. Then a guy on an MTB came out onto the MUP and we had the world's slowest peloton.
Nah, it wasn't that bad. 15 or 16MPH into a headwind. Relaxed.
Saw quite a few other riders out today. Nice to see.

Rode in again today, though I woke up a bit late because I stayed up too late last night reading. A good book will have that effect on you. This morning, my wife told me to take the car in because she wouldn't need it today, but I declined. Five days this week!
just when I thought it couldn't get more humid... ugh.

Sunny, cool, not so humid, and fast. but not fast enough, looking in to thiner tires and a larger chain ring...

Awesome, my new Carradice saddlebag arrived last night. Got it installed and packed this morning and had a very comfortable ride. I'm not quite used to the weight placement under the seat (higher up than with panniers), but once I got adjusted it was fine. But more importantly...no messenger back. Much cooler ride in this morning. Getting my stuff off my back is such a relief.

Put bullhorns on my fixie Tuesday, but today was the first commute w/ them. First impressions are that I'm faster or at least it seems like it and that I need to re-wrap one side to move the brake closer to where I normally place my hand. Still need to make a few adjustments, but overall, they seem pretty good for the commute. I'll take the extra long way home tonight to give them a better workout.

Tasty...for the past week or so, I have been commuting door-to-door now that a couple of new routes have opened up coming out of my neighborhood in the country, connecting me with the feeder and bike routes into town. No complaints at all, even with the heat. I've acclimated and my legs are feeling great. I love this point in my season.

Ride home last night was fast fast fast. Hit every light green so I didn't stop once from the office to the house. Even the lights that ~always~ catch me red were green. Was able to carry 35mph onto the hill going home. Boy were my legs tired when I hit the homestead. Was like a 15 minutes sprint.
Had to drive the beast in this morning... loaded down with camping gear for a quick exit from work to the mountains. A weekend of feasting, tequila drinking, playing cards, and doing nuthin' is the full agenda. I may haul the bike and ride it home Sunday while the GF drives the rig... I think it's like 60miles or so.

Great ride on the single speed this morning. Will be hard to remember the coolness on the way home later. Saw a golfer in a big land yacht (Lincoln Continental) swerve wide around a cyclist and run a stop sign turning into a golf course. Makes one wonder what the hurry is to get to the golf course at 6:15 a.m.
It's true, man.

Hot-t-t-t-t-t! Thermo outside my window said 104 when I got home, last night. Headwind was 12-15 mph. Swimming pools are good things. Started out with an ice-filled water bottle and had warm water before I turned off the trail toward home.
This morning was a beaut, though. 80F, with a lovely sunrise. Got out early and added a few miles and a nice climb to the routine.
I'm probably gonna start moving back to the 29er for the commute, soon. Tiime to start training up for a longish offroad tour next year. Hot as it is, I don't wanna go back to the back pack and I don't have good rack mounts - any suggestions for a stable seatpost rack?

At 104 degrees, isn't a 15MPH headwind sort of like having a hair drier pointed at your face?

Bikes neutering men? I think not.

That's why I picked a husband who rides a bike! OK, he does own a truck, two actually, but he's a gardener and has a hauling business, as well. But our first date was a mountain bike ride. I saw those those manly quads and calves, (sighs dreamily) - way sexy. It always cracks me up when I'm riding, and some guy in a car burns rubber next to me at a light: I always say to myself, "Wow, how strong your foot must be to step on the throttle like that, what he-man!"

P.S. I lost the weight when I moved to Chico, and had no car. I began commuting on my bike. I've weighed between 115 and 120 pounds, depending on the season, ever since (7 years).

It's going to be frying-pan hot on the way home today, but very comfortable on the way in. That's the beauty of the Big Valley. Today I rode in my Grant Peterson-approved kit: lightweight s/s cotton shirt, chinos, and sandals (casual Friday here). And it was extremely comfortable.
I'm thinking I need to go to REI and get one of those grocery bag panniers for the Bomber. Seems like it would be perfect for carrying my soft briefcase instead of bungie-cording it to the rack. Anybody else use something like that?

Great ride in on the fixed gear this morning. Legs had some power, overnight/early morning shower cooled things off, only had to track stand twice as I was 19/21 on green lights, saved a turtle...
This is how I've lost most all of my weight, but in trying to get rid of the last 5-10 pounds, I've run into problems with under-eating, over-eating, burning out, etc. I follow my apetite for a while, drop 5 pounds in the span of a couple of days and then am severely fatigued for the next week. I end up eating too much to try and recover and make myself feel better. I'm trying to get close to my "optimal climbing weight" for the MS150 here so I'm currently reading Sports Nutrition for Endurance Athletes by Monique Ryan and tracking progress via https://fitday.com. I'm doing OK so far. I've lost 4 pounds over the course of a month with little fluctuation and only the one mentioned burnout.
