It definitly chilled down a bit out there. It was a cool 55 degrees this morning on the ride in and for a change, there was a breeze in my face (this normally doesn't happen until I head home). I considered a long sleeve shirt for a bit.
Other then that, it was nice and relaxing. Good way to start the morning. I met some guy in the locker room who also commutes to work. He's just starting and uses an old cruiser bike. Unfortantly he comes from the other side of town, so no ridin' in with someone.
Nice to see other people riding into work though

Not a bad ride in today. It's taken me well over an hour to cool down, but traffic was ok.

local honk at the biker day today - three in one commute. One was short toot - I'm coming by kinda thing. I like those. One was from some one two empty lanes over going the other direction??!?? And the last was deadly - right on my ass in tight traffic as they went by - yes there was plenty of room but I only had three feet - no more.

Otherwise a great ride.

First bike commute since July 28. Had a nice, though very sweaty, ride in. Got passed from behind by a white pickup with a "Trek5200" vanity plate. Glad to see there's at least one bike friendly white pickup on the roads here. Sounds like I'll be dodging thunderstorms on the ride home....hopefully they'll hold off until after ~4:30

Ran into some rain on the ride home last night. Sure cooled me off.

Humid this morning. I'm finally cooled down enough to have my morning "sink bath".

My helmet mirror came off while I was getting ready this morning. Had to find another mirror in my collection of "bike stuff". All I had was a Third Eye mirror. Not too crazy about it. I guess that's why it has been collecting dust. Guess I'll head to the bike shop during lunch.

I hate being honked at. It's usually unexpected and it startles me.

Finally worked up the huevos to make my first ride in to work this morning, loved it. It's not too big of a ride, only around 4-5 miles each way. Most of it is on a trail directly adjacent to a major highway, so i got to watch all these poor schlubs sitting in rush hour traffic as I coasted by. A little dose of eco-friendly self righteousness will wake you up a lot better than coffee.
I ALMOST had a problem with an intrepid minivanist, but she saw me soon enough and didnt turn.

Good times, I cant wait to get back on this afternoon.

Its been near a month since I started, and the weather's been so nice that today it finally had to turn sour. the roads were slick and wet this morning and I took this turn a little too fast. as far as I can tell the bike's ok, I'm mostly ok and I didn't hit anything in the process. I did however scrape an elbow and somehow I got road-rash underneath my lycra shorts. How did I get road-rash under my shorts without damaging the shorts?

that said, this afternoon should be much cooler than it has been (if a bit muggy) and I can't wait to get back out there.

The GF scared me off of last night's tandem ride because of the clouds and "impending rain". It never rained, and we missed a nice cool ride. She always does that. I'm gonna have to quit listening to her

This morning was a stellar ride... nice cool 57f [68%h] ride in. It's almost like you can feel fall in the air. Usually don't get that until September. Bright blue skies and extra nice drivers today made it a real pleasure to come to work... excepting the "come to work" part

It wasn't too warm when I left the house at 7:00, but it's supposed to get to 105 today. Oh, well. Who cares if I'm sweaty when I get home?

On the way home yesterday, a pitbull ran out of a yard near my house and followed me, barking happily, for a block or two. Nothing scary about it - just a happy dog (who should have been on a leash, of course).

After three days of mtn biking and partying in Fernie, I'm tired and my legs were feeling pretty heavy today. Still, there was a marked reduction of traffic on the roads, as many people are off on their summer holidays.

Overcast, high 70's and kind of humid.
13 uneventful miles - 1:10 including traffic lights, etc. One revelation....Jake brakes will make you jump when they are used behind you on a narrow road with no shoulders.

I had a long detour home last night on the tri-bike. I went across the river into W. Sac and then south along the River Road to the drawbridge at Freeport. Brutal, gusting wind but I'm very happy with the new aero position. Then once I crossed back over the Sacramento and headed north for home, I had a huge tail wind. I thought: This must be how Dave Zabriskie feels.

My Commute was a little different than it has been the past year. Last week I started cycling in with 2 other guys from the Falls. I cycle downtown and they are close to the university. Today I decided to stay with them to the university and take the escarpment down from there. The ride was great. Coming down the mountain was really fun. The descent is longer and steeper than on my other route; 52km max opposed to 42km max.

Some jerkwads passed extremely close and the passenger yelled, "Boo!" at me today.

I actually thought it quite funny, since that stuff rarely happens to me.
- it was rather an amuzing, yet disturbing thing to witness; kind of like watching monkeys fling poo at the zoo.

At first I wanted to take a short cut to ambush them further up the road and dole out some U-lock justice, but I was on my way home for lunch, and was very hungry. I didn't have time for such retribution.

Weird past 7 days. Normally I'm not busy at all at work (thus BF all day ) but the last week was crazy. Thus, a week's worth in one post.

Late to work 4 out of 5 days last week. Just an hour or two makes a HUGE difference in terms of heat & humidity!

Not much unusual on my commute recently, but last night was, um, exciting. Tremendous, awesome t-storm came through right as I was about to leave work. The other bike commuter got a ride from his wife, and offered to give me one too, but I was determined/stupid. Rode home with lightning all over the sky around me and incredibly loud thunder booming. I'm sure the drivers thought I was nuts.

Nice ride, nothing unusual (which is always nice in and of itself). I am kind of counting down the trailer days before our next schedule change; 6 more mornings trailering the kids to daycare (this Friday is not one of them), then I can go back to zipping straight to/from work.

If you are quick, you can usually tag them with the water bottle toss. Then you just pick up the bottle on you way and don't have to spend the extra effort trying to catch them. No damage, just fun.

I almost launched one from the tandem the other night, but it was full of ice and didn't want to bust out their window. {although that ~would~ have been really funny}

I don't know how but I twisted my ankle at work (not really twisted in the usual sense) and hope I can ride home ok. I rode to a nearby restaurant for lunch (about 0.9 miles from work) and did ok. I've been limping around the office hoping for some sympathy but no one cares.

Quite proud of myself today, left rather late, hauled a$$, and got to work with time to spare! It is so nice out in the mornings right now. I can't believe the weather is so cool in August. It was about 65° when I rode in, only about 85° out there right now. YES!

The ride home was great. It doesn't hurt except when I walk on it.
I'll try a little Tiger balm and see how that does.

Here is the tendency: I enjoy my rides to work, I survive my rides back home.

Why? The three T's is what makes all the difference: terrain, traffic and tiredness.

forgot to mention i got clipped by someone's side-view mirror last friday on my way home. so unexpected it took me another 1/4 of a block to figure out what that strange blow on the forearm could have been, then another 1/4 before i got indignant about the irresponsibility of it. brain's slow in the afternoons.

nice ride today. cool and rainy but not actually raining. coming home i got the benefit of a pearly, surly sunset from the vantage point of the bridge - also nice. am way out of shape but pretty cheerful about it.

Finally jumped in feet first last Friday with my first ever commute on my new bike- Bianchi Volpe after much deliberation.

Riding 12 mi into downtown Seattle.

Rode in Friday and then today. It's been great fun but harrowing at times- fearing the auto traffic. I think a healthy amount of fear will be a good thing.
