Ran into coworker on way home, I pedalled at her pace for a change, 8-12 mph. Very soothing!

We got ourselves a convoy!
I met a biker heading my way and rode sort of together for mile and half. Met up with a third biker and went another 1/4 mile as a group before I had to turn off. First time I met any bikers going my way and two at the same time. How cool is that?

today was my first ride in to work with my new clipless pedals.
got here 5 minutes earlier than usual. but maybe it was just that there was no wind... nice ride. |
Chilly this morning, it keeps reminding me I need to look into winter clothing for biking. It wasn't bad otherwise, I did see two other bike commuters in the distance (going directions I wasn't going). That's more then I've seen in...well, probably two months :)

Got the green light and a clear intersection coming down a hill this morning - 31 MPH through the intersection, WHEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! As I pulled into work and was locking up, a co-worker walking in from the parking lot told me she had passed me a few miles back, yet here we were walking through the door at about the same time, so she complimented me on how fast I could ride. (Actually I generally cruise between 15 and 20, not exactly racing speeds, but traffic lights can be great equalizers, and catching that one this morning helped!)
Mr H: For winter clothing, you should concentrate mostly on your feet, hands, and face. I've found that long undies or extra shirts are really unnecessary once you get warmed up, except maybe in the most extreme temperatures, such as below 0 Farenheit. I wear a headband under my helmet (I know a balaclava would fit better, but I've never bothered to get one), mittens over glove liners (poor circulation, you might do okay with gloves), and boots, along with my work slacks and shirt with a thin long-sleeved flourescent jacket. If it's extreme, I wear a full face mask instead of the headband. |

Well I didn't ride this morning, but I did walk 2.5 miles to the bus. Meeting people after work for some running and beer drinking. Mostly beer drinking. Getting a ride home with wife. But... My walk to the bus is on a section of MUP, and I got passed by 4 commuters (not in a pack.) Nice to see. |
Weather was really strange this morning.. numbers at the house were 58f and80% humidity. There was a line across the sky... to my right was overcast and drizzily, to my left was crystal blue sky and sunshine. So my ride was half and half.
Cars were pretty well behaved except for a narrow 4 lane area that's on an 3/4 mile uphill grind. I'm seriously considering riding the sidewalk in that stretch. There are no buildings, dirveways or other issues as it's in an undeveloped area. The cars just go too fast and it's too narrow to ride the street there. Tailgating drivers don't see me until it's too late I think. |
Started raining when I was about 1.5 miles from home last night. Kinda nice. When I was about two blocks from home, riding on a wide share-able road there were two @$$holes following me, afraid to pass a cyclist, even though they had LOTS of room to pass. As I approached my street to turn left I realized that the SUV behind me -- and I mean RIGHT BEHIND ME -- was too close for me to signal and move out into the middle of the lane to make my left turn. I had to pull over and stop so these unenlightened @$$holes could pass me. Then I was able to make my turn.
When are Atlanta's testa del dick motorists going to learn how to drive? Anyone driving anything larger than a Yugo thinks they're in an 18-wheeler pulling a double trailer. http://www.wptruckschooloforegon.com...%20Trailer.jpg The ride this morning was pleasant. Fifth day of cloudy, overcast skies and very humid. |
The warmth and humidity are back so I had a sweaty ride in this morning. Had a headwind last night on the way home and another this morning. Getting windy around here the past week or so.
|
Yep, still intermittently commuting! Haven't gotten many miles in the last month with infant care and child birth classes. Lots of prep work over the past few weeks and a chest cold didn't help. Needless to say I felt a bit wobbly riding in today but oddly strong.
My mind has begun to shift towards shorter (30~45min) hill repeat rides and running because that's about all I'll have time for in the upcoming months. |

Did my first commute in this morning. Thanks BF for the info and inspiration to leave the car home. :)
Beautiful day for a ride here in NH. Cool and dry, warm afternoon today. Saw one other bike commuter this morning, but my route is pretty quiet so I didn't expect any more.. Ride took 0:49.29 for 11.55 miles, averaged 13.9mph. Bike is a 2000 Specialized Hardrock on Ritchey Tom 26x1.4" semi-slicks. Smooth crusing. |

Today was a nice day for my commute in Mississauga. I got really lucky and hit almost every traffic light green on the way to work.
I also encountered some really nice looking women jogging on the paved trails in Meadowvale too. Makes the commute even more worth it. :D |
On the way home last night I stopped at the LBS to pick up a wheel I'd left for truing. (I had a small incident on the Saturday group ride and my front wheel got all tweaked.) I bungied it on top of my rack and rode home. When I pulled into the driveway my neighbor said "Do you always carry a spare wheel with you like that?" I hadn't realized how funny it looked: kind of like a bicycling version of a Lincoln Continental.

It was cold enough to see my breath this morning. Especially after about the 1/2 way point of my commute. My wife suggested I wear a long sleeved shirt, but did I listen? Of course not. She made sure I remembered, too. Ride home was uneventful.

I was hoping to bike in to work when my wife came home to spell me w/ sick kids, but it didn't take. Now looking like no biking till Friday. Only 2 days this week! Worst showing since some crazy stuff in Dec/Jan.

annoying commute again today, had to bring a computer to a clients office so I had to pick up the trailer and put it in there for the AM before work. While riding to clients my bike was heavy as heck! I had no lower gears to go into. My Nishiki is a double and the low gear kept throwing the chain. I think it might have to do with me removing the chainwheels and then reinstalling them after they were degreased. Then the headset started to wobble again. So confused on that I posted over in the mechanic forum and the front brakes started squeeling again argh I was very unhappy I cant wait till I can find a new commuter maybe it wont have all these problems sorry for the complaint rant weather was nice wish I had the roadie but the tube is flat and the one I bought got a flat during the installation process no patch kit

what a difference a few degrees makes! only 100 this afternoon. I can handle that. it was a good ride. lots of people out on bikes. two even riding in the road! helmet head would be proud. didn't even have to drink all my water since I hydrated at work. somebody honked and yelled at me but I couldn't hear what they were saying.

I think I'm fianlly getting used to the new 42x14 gear. I felt feeble for a couple weeks, but the training effect has finally kicked in. About frickin' time!
|
First ride in for me this week. Been busier than the proverbial one legged man around here lately and haven't been able to ride due to late meetings. It was very nice this AM!! 67F with a 63F dew point. I had an annoying head wind as I was riding, but since the North wind is the reason for the cooler temp and lower humidity I'll take it. Pretty unremarkable ride other than the change in weather. It noticed that we have lost a lot of daylight since Summer Solstice. Rode nearly the entire 13 miles with headlights on today....Won't be long before I'll need the warm weather gear.
|
Very nice weather, cool and crisp. The roads all around my house have been torn up for roadwork and makes me thankful for my fatties. My other bike would get torn to shreds.
Anyways, a couple of ne'er-do-well'ers have been hanging out the past few days at a dark corner that I have to go through...starting to think I need to vary my route from day to day. Most likely dealers that will mind their own business, but better to not take chances. Gotta love downtown Atlanta |
