Yep, still intermittently commuting! Haven't gotten many miles in the last month with infant care and child birth classes. Lots of prep work over the past few weeks and a chest cold didn't help. Needless to say I felt a bit wobbly riding in today but oddly strong.
My mind has begun to shift towards shorter (30~45min) hill repeat rides and running because that's about all I'll have time for in the upcoming months.

Did my first commute in this morning. Thanks BF for the info and inspiration to leave the car home.
Beautiful day for a ride here in NH. Cool and dry, warm afternoon today. Saw one other bike commuter this morning, but my route is pretty quiet so I didn't expect any more..
Ride took 0:49.29 for 11.55 miles, averaged 13.9mph. Bike is a 2000 Specialized Hardrock on Ritchey Tom 26x1.4" semi-slicks. Smooth crusing.

Today was a nice day for my commute in Mississauga. I got really lucky and hit almost every traffic light green on the way to work.
I also encountered some really nice looking women jogging on the paved trails in Meadowvale too. Makes the commute even more worth it.

On the way home last night I stopped at the LBS to pick up a wheel I'd left for truing. (I had a small incident on the Saturday group ride and my front wheel got all tweaked.) I bungied it on top of my rack and rode home. When I pulled into the driveway my neighbor said "Do you always carry a spare wheel with you like that?" I hadn't realized how funny it looked: kind of like a bicycling version of a Lincoln Continental.

It was cold enough to see my breath this morning. Especially after about the 1/2 way point of my commute. My wife suggested I wear a long sleeved shirt, but did I listen? Of course not. She made sure I remembered, too. Ride home was uneventful.

annoying commute again today, had to bring a computer to a clients office so I had to pick up the trailer and put it in there for the AM before work. While riding to clients my bike was heavy as heck! I had no lower gears to go into. My Nishiki is a double and the low gear kept throwing the chain. I think it might have to do with me removing the chainwheels and then reinstalling them after they were degreased. Then the headset started to wobble again. So confused on that I posted over in the mechanic forum and the front brakes started squeeling again argh I was very unhappy I cant wait till I can find a new commuter maybe it wont have all these problems sorry for the complaint rant weather was nice wish I had the roadie but the tube is flat and the one I bought got a flat during the installation process no patch kit
what a difference a few degrees makes! only 100 this afternoon. I can handle that. it was a good ride. lots of people out on bikes. two even riding in the road! helmet head would be proud. didn't even have to drink all my water since I hydrated at work. somebody honked and yelled at me but I couldn't hear what they were saying.

I think I'm fianlly getting used to the new 42x14 gear. I felt feeble for a couple weeks, but the training effect has finally kicked in. About frickin' time!

First ride in for me this week. Been busier than the proverbial one legged man around here lately and haven't been able to ride due to late meetings. It was very nice this AM!! 67F with a 63F dew point. I had an annoying head wind as I was riding, but since the North wind is the reason for the cooler temp and lower humidity I'll take it. Pretty unremarkable ride other than the change in weather. It noticed that we have lost a lot of daylight since Summer Solstice. Rode nearly the entire 13 miles with headlights on today....Won't be long before I'll need the warm weather gear.

Very nice weather, cool and crisp. The roads all around my house have been torn up for roadwork and makes me thankful for my fatties. My other bike would get torn to shreds.
Anyways, a couple of ne'er-do-well'ers have been hanging out the past few days at a dark corner that I have to go through...starting to think I need to vary my route from day to day. Most likely dealers that will mind their own business, but better to not take chances. Gotta love downtown Atlanta

Overcast and kind of foggy this morning. I figured out the sweet-spot for missing the elementary school traffic, but unfortunately it's about 30 minutes earlier than I usually leave. I'm going to shoot for it, though. Not much else today, still having sleep problems. Some sort of tension, I probably need to leave town for a few days.

Today's commute to work was "interesting."
The MUP is technically closed for a section today and tomorrow because they're fixing an area that was washed out during the very wet spring we had. I figured nobody would be out working early, but I was wrong. They were already there at 7:15.
I dismounted and climbed a set of stairs leading to a housing complex, and followed one of the streets to where I knew there was an access back to the MUP. Trouble was, I didn't see an obvious way to the access, so I had to carry the old Peugeot through woods about 50 feet to the trail.
Then it was a quick ride through woods back to the main MUP, and normalcy.
I caught up to a roadie who, I think, was "relieving himself".
He mounted up as I approached and I sort of hung out behind him at a spirited pace for about 1.5 miles before turning off the MUP into Burlington.
So far this week I've seen a raccoon, two garter snakes (I stopped and chased them off to safety), and a kitty on trail.

Wow - I could almost cut and paste your post! I'll see your lack of a granny gear, your wobbling headset and raise you a loose cleat - and resulting fall
and stiffer than normal headwind!Regarding the headset, I had recurrence of a headset wobble too. Have recently read this from Sheldon Brown regarding "Threadless Without Spacers" and using a clamp instead of a star nut, I loosened the stem and bounced the front up and down several times then tightened the headset. Repeated several times until I could no longer move the headset bolt. I'll bet I got another two full turns out of it that way. No more wobble on the other 11 miles of the commute. (fingers crossed!)

I haven't posted in awhile, but have just finished a full year of commuting and am now starting year TWO! I put just over 4000 miles since August 1 and am excited that my speed and distances are increasing. My commute is now 12 miles each way and today....used the new SHOWERS at the office. Woohoo!
It is already looking to be another great cycling year!

No red lights on the way home last night... that boils my legs by the time I get home. I usually haul on the way home, so at least one red light is a welcome break. My legs feel it this morning too
This morning was a plesant 61F with humitidy down to the 45% range. Crisp and clear. Had an idiot driver try to left turn over the top of me, but thankfully I have good brakes, and a middle finger. It was one of those zen moments when you know it's gonna happen before it happens, so I was more than ready.
Gotta zip home tonight, rack up a couple of MTB's for a ride at Ute Valley park tonight. That will add 8-10 miles of pretty technical riding for the evening.

Day 6 of overcast skies for the morning commute.
I like sunshine.
Kinda reminds me of when I lived in Olympia, Washington many years ago.
My legs thought it was Friday.
Supposed to be sunny for the ride home.

Nice weather today for the bike commute. But the damn bus was scary. The damn bus driver was determined to try to force me up onto the sidewalk. For some reason he thinks bikes belong on sidewalks. He even uttered something about my not being "where I belong". How ignorant can some people be?

Managed to coax the 5 yr old out of the house and into the trailer for his last day of pre-school; 'cause the 19 month old is banned from school until her upset tummy clears up, I just took her for a spin after dropping him off, nice jaunt out toward the end of Budd Inlet. I turned around early, and it turned out to not be a bad thing 'cause I found, after stopping for a bagel that the trailer had a flat. I had no patch kit, and it was 30 min from the earliest LBS opening, so I just pulled it home as it was.
I really need to get another patch kit.
Now I'm trying to convince her to nap while I telecommute. Little success at either so far.

My favourite gear was getting a little "skippy" under pressure earlier this week, and Synth (my favourite LBS wrenchman) determined it's worn teeth on my middle chainring. The shop didn't have any 110 rings in stock to replace it, so I have to go until tomorrow afternoon on either my 28T dinky ring or my 46T big ring.
I've been jammin' a 46-18 combo the past couple of days, treating it like a SS, and my legs are just not used to hammering something that tall up the final hill to work. I'm a little sore, but I'm also a little more convinced that my choice of a SS for my next ride is the right decision.
