I was still full from last night's steak dinner on the ride in today, and a little hung over. I'm tired. Two more days and then a biz trip to MTL on the weekend.

Title for yesterday's commute: spittle from an attractive woman is not attractive.

On the way home yesterday, I pulled onto the cherry creek trail and was passed by a very very VERY attractive female roadie. She was riding slightly slower than my optimum speed but I did not want to pass. For one, passing someone going slightly slower than you requires a lot of work. I usually feel the need to maintain an even faster speed to avoid feeling like an a$$ if the other person needs to pass me. The second item was the view. :p
We are both pedaling along while I was riding a wee bit back. What does she do? She spits a big loogy (sp?) off to her right. While the main part of her spit went off to the right, a small part impacted my face. I yelled thank you in an annoyed voice and stewed for a minute or two. The end result was me deciding to haul arse to get away from the spit queen.

This am was 50F with a small wind (10mph?) and a moderate to light rain. I layered oddly and it worked out great. Was a little soaked by the time I arrived at work but had a blast. I love wet dirty commutes. :)

Maybe you could return the favour by putting a little "spittle" of your own on her face :D

Tuesday morning was nearly perfect weather, around 70°F, uncovered arms and legs. Yo-yoed in and out of a heavy rainstorm Tuesday afternoon. My new bag kept everything dry, even full of groceries. Took the bus Wednesday morning to rest up then the weather was gorgeous on the ride home. This morning was shock as there was no transition from the lower 70's to the upper 40's. Why do I seem to forget what I'm comfortable in in certain conditions every summer only to have to relearn again the next winter? Debating taking Friday off so I can put in some long miles over the weekend.

49F & pouring rain at 5 this morning. Wet, grimmy & grinning ear to ear by the time I got to work...probably would have stayed a bit dryer if I at least pretended to try to avoid some of the puddles...then again, it just doesn't get any better than this!

Datajunkie...so I am I to take it that you didn't get a name or number?

jyossarian 09-21-06 09:28 AM

Datajunkie: Coulda been worse. She coulda ate beans at lunch and been launching snot rockets.

Looks like the city decided to strip part of Lexington Ave. last night cuz this morning, the blacktop was gone, all stripped and rutty. It was great! Normally, the road looks like chewed up crap w/ patches and potholes everywhere so the stripped and rutted version is actually smoother! I guess in another month or so, they'll have repaved it and it should be smoother which will be nice. Ride to work was filled w/ the usual nonsense of blocked off streets to UN dignitaries and their police motorcades could zip back and forth across the city.

ModoVincere 09-21-06 09:47 AM

What section of Lexington is messed up? just want to know as I'm staying at the Radisson this weekend.

Rained last night but it was only overcast this morning. Threatening rain. Rode the yellow-cushie beater in so it was slow going - the springs on the seat are really too soft but they're fun. Didn't see as many riders on the bike paths. Nice and cool (50's?) going in though so no sweat (literally) to work. Wished I'd gotten coffee on the way though just so I could try my new coffee mug holder in my basket. Sun was just breaking through when I got in. Love living in Boulder.

she was a tad out of my league. Plus I have this ring and the person that came along with it. Wife? :p

caloso 09-21-06 10:12 AM

Just gorgeous this morning. As I was riding in, I was daydreaming about taking a long lunchtime ride and then I remembered that the boss is taking us out to lunch today. D'oh! (I know most regular folks would think I'm an ingrate, but I'd much rather ride my bike get a free lunch.)

HardyWeinberg 09-21-06 10:26 AM

Nice fall day. Really fall, 'cause the ground hadn't dried from yesterday's all day all night drizzle. The last thing that I'm waiting for to truly indicate summer is over is to see campsites under the bike trail overpasses.

No ill effects to the ride from yesterday's spill, but my left knee doesn't like how I apparently pivot it when getting off the bike.

Dunno exactly, but I think from 48th to 44th or 42nd. That stretch on the right's been really chewed up. The section on the middle and left is less chewed up. Did you bring your bike?

I wish I could bring my bike. Unfortunately I'm only there for 1 night, and its completely booked up with stuff. Doing Dinner, Broadway show, dessert....then sleep. Getting up at 7:00 next morning and hitting Battery Park and the Statue of Liberty tour with wife and kid.

I think it would be a blast to have my bike in NY and rip out about 20 or 30 miles, escpecially through central park. But alas, its not meant to be....not this time anyway.

If you have the time, rent some bikes along the Hudson Greenway or near Central Park. Dedicated two-way bike lanes on the Greenway and it extends pretty far north.

You guys are going to be so jealous! 65 degrees, sunny, with a light breeze. Working 2nd shift I leave the house at 1:30 in the afternoon. Living on the edge of town I head out to the long, lonely country roads. Since this is amishland, the folks you see tend to smile and wave with all their fingers. On my 15 mile ride to work, I may get passed by a dozen or so motor vehicles. Felt pretty good today so I worked up those few small hills we have here in northern Indiana. Pulling into the railroad yard down the private 2 mile drive is a great way to cool down. I ride right into the garage area and to my workbench where I park my trusty steed. Tonights ride home at 11:00 will be even better. Even less traffic and all the crickets sing that I am a cycling god (that's what I hear anyway) all the way home. Night riding is a HOOT!! You guys who work hard, and have to put up with all the traffic, my hat's off to ya. I GOT MADE!!!

vrkelley 09-21-06 03:04 PM

That nice tail wind helped me break my record....nice ride... very nice ride

maxrots 09-21-06 03:31 PM

YAY!
I have been off bikes and exercise for the most part for around 3 years now(re aggrivated some back problems at bmx practice..). I bought a felt 90 56cm 2005 10 days ago and after todays commute have almost 160 miles.

My commutes are a bit over 15 miles each way. Today was my 4th day. There was a thick wet fog wet roads and light traffic, air was clean and fresh off of the Humboldt Bay. After my first mile i am merging onto 101 and i see a woman roadie go by while i wait for a chance to get across the Deadly indianola cutoff. I get across and shes maybe 1/4+ mile ahead of me. I packed my messenger bag a little lighter today(no microbiology book of lead) and am fresh(in my first few miles) so i think i can catch her, i get into the drops and to my surprise am pulling about 22-24mph.. i havnt been riding that unless have downhill or tailwind so i try to calm down and keep it above 18. I halve the distance, get on the horns and relax. Make the catch .. watch traffic.. room to pass...click 2 gears stand for a few spins.. bye bye. fun stuff.. i cant wait to get back into better shape. and, maybe a softer seat lol. no back pain amazingly... butt is ouch

jyossarian 09-21-06 03:38 PM

I had bunnyopping on the brain today which was good since I had to do some bunnyhopping on the way home. Had to hop on the sidewalk when a cager was reversing into a parking spot and blocking the way around on the left. Slowed, swung right and hopped on the sidewalk. Bunnyhopped some potholes I coulda swerved around, then another sidewalk and I was home.

scottmorrison99 09-21-06 10:04 PM

Nice ride in. Waved at a guy in a tractor trailer who passed me safely and very carefully with his entire rig, watching me in his mirror, no rushing in or cutting me off. I saw him stopped at the grocery store and waved again. Made me smile. Ride home was nice, but heard a creak, now I've got to go for a ride tomorrow to investigate it;). Both ways totally in the dark. Byb bye sun.:(

tokolosh 09-21-06 10:28 PM

i've got a cold coming on and i think it's set off a flare; i know this when i get outside on the bike and can feel heat coming up off my wrists all the way. tired, but it wasn't raining and the ride in was better than i'd been expecting. someone at work now has a pretty new-looking coda elite, which got me foolishly excited for some foolish reason. came home a bit early, and it was okay but i don't want to talk about the snot factor. i could sleep for a week.

just hope it doesn't rain again until sometime on saturday.

mxu63 09-21-06 10:57 PM

Thanks for the encuragement.:)
I am about 15Lb over weight now :(. I really like to get ride of it. Regularly playing ping-pong did not work. Runing on machine is too hard and boring. My co-worker right next to me suggested me biking as he has been doing. He is ridiculously fit. Also I like nature. I like outdoor. My trip is 12.5 miles that includes 70% creek trail, 10% local drive way and 20% regular road and it takes me 1 hr. It is perfect. There are so many reasons for me to bike. I just can not not to bike.:p

vrkelley 09-21-06 11:12 PM

Saw three of these this week! After tonight's rainbow, got caught in a heavy downpour. It was worth it.

buzzman 09-21-06 11:58 PM

vrkelley is that rainbow picture the one you saw or just one you downloaded as an example? Not that I believe the rainbows you saw were any less impressive but that's quite the photo of one.

My ride today had no rainbows but was just gorgeous with perfect temperatures and clear skies and very few folks on th bike path. Rode home with a stop at the grocery store on the way home and loaded my milkcrate up with groceries and couldn't be happier with the ride. I doubt many people who drive to work on a day like this think endlessly about how wonderful their drive in and out of work was.

Wow vrkelley, that has to be amazing to see on your commute. I was driving up I-5 in California last year and snapped this picture. I couldn't get the whole rainbow in the shot, but you could see the whole thing out of the window.

dalmore 09-22-06 02:52 AM

Yesterday's ride home sucks. I got my self stuck out in no man's land in a grid locked intersection by being stupid. Was freaked out over that and failed to take the lane when I needed to and ended up squished off on to the shoulder waiting for a break in the traffic. rinse. repeat. rinse. repeat. Arrive home safe and be happy about it.

Did get a smile near the end when I saw the motorcyclist with the rainbow colored mohawk on the helmet. :)
