had a horrible ride home from work today head wind all the way made the ride so so hard as usual the ride to work was good

saraflux 09-22-06 06:35 AM

yesterday evening was i think my best time ever. even with the headwind...
the final shipment of parts for my NEW bike were waiting when i got there (along with my SO and plans for a tasty dinner), so i hauled @s$ so that i could get her built and adjusted and tested to ride this morning. i did the majority of the building (under the watchful eye of my bike guru SO) and he did all of the adjusting, which i have no patience for... took her around the block a couple times and went to bed greasy and happy.

this morning on the way to work was effortless and FAST.

:D :D :D :D :D what a difference a BRAND NEW BIKE makes!!!!! my cyclometer died a while back, so i have no evidence for this, but i swear i am 10x as fast ;).

i never knew it could be like this.
pix when i get them...

sooooo happy.

Nice ride this morning. Comfortable around 50F. Long sleeve jersey & shorts. Sunny, blue sky, not much wind. Lots of squirrels running around with acorns. I heard some ducks, and saw a big white bird where the Winooski River empties into Lake Champlain.

The leaves are beginning to change at lower elevations. Might be time to bring a camera.

I forgot I was supposed to pick up my youngest at school yesterday so I rode hard and fast home quickly switched to the gas burner and picked her up still in my riding gear.

No bike today....Have a cold coming on, and with the plane ride tomorrow, I think a rest day might be best. Last time I was on a commercial jet, I ended up with a nasty sinus infection, and I was healthy going into the flight. Should be load of fun going in with an already weakend immune system..not!

ANIMALS!
Holy smokes, I almost hit a Deer, Jackrabbit, and 2 cats on the way home last night. Crazy.

Mr_H 09-22-06 06:53 AM

50 degrees and a strong headwind (obviously). I didnt have to wear them, but I finally through on the unlined windbreaker pants. It made things a tad bit easier for me...good to know what works before the real cold weather comes on :) I get my new skull cap today as well (course, it'll probably warm up next week to the point where I don't need it.....)

Wow, that was an unpleasant ride in this morning!

When I left, it was just slightly misting. But as soon as I turned onto Lincoln Avenue, I was blasted with a fierce wind that didn't let up for the entire 7 mile ride. Worse, when I was about 3 miles away from work, it started to rain like it meant it. And then, once I reached the Loop, it REALLY started to come down - stinging rain with gusty winds. Eww!

But I'm here at work now. I'm just not sure how I'm going to make sure my riding clothes get dry enough for my ride home. My workplace is kind of stuffy, and I don't think they'd take too kindly to me draping my dripping wet dryfit over my cube wall :)

No bike commuting today. My job has me so burned out, physically and emotionally, that I'm seriously considering quiting. Sadly it's affecting my general outlook and my desire to ride. I may not even do my Sat or Sun ride. :( I've been looking around but at 61 years of age (nearly 62) there aren't a lot of jobs available.
Today when I see other bike commuters I know I'll be kicking myself. Somehow I've gotta get out of this mood.

Here's to all of you.

Straight into 33km/hr gusts of wind this morning the whole way. It took me 33% longer than usual, but I got to practice patience, and my legs will thank me.

Stay strong, Ron. ABC and Atlanta's biking community needs you! It's tough working and having a hobby in the same field, not much room to get away. If you need a riding partner this weekend or any other then let me know. Or go fishing or take up knitting or go do something else for a couple of days.

(And I hope I haven't contributed to your mood.)

The ride was great this morning. After some wrench twisting, anger and some locktite I don't sound like loosebolts. I still don't like how squirrely the bike is with the one pannier on the side. When I got in a noticed this on the radar I shouted NOOOOOOOO!!!! I really need to purchase fenders I currently only have 5 dollars.

Awesome ride on the way in this morning. Some days the sunrise here is spectacular. Once in a while it's unbelievable....today was one of those days. The sun sneaking up, under the layer of clouds tied to our impending storm, made for the brightest red sky I've ever seen. Alpine glow off the mountains was incredible. Some days it's worth getting up early.

The other side of that coin relates to the old seaman's saying... "Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning. Red Sky at night, sailors delight." I'm betting that I'll be putting the cover on the bike and/or riding home in the rain.

Here is the mindset that usually gets me through the work week...

1] It's a job, it's supposed to suck. That's why they have to give you money to get you to do it.

2] If it was fun, they would call it a hobby and charge ~you~ for it.

So buck up Ron, do their silly crap, and take as much of their freakin' money as you can... It's a fair trade. :) And ride your bike so at least some part of the day doesnt suck.

#1: What's that Drew Carey joke? You hate your job? There's a group for that. It's called EVERYONE, and they meet at the bar! :D

#2: That is so true.

I wouldn't not ride on the weekend because your job sucks. Go ride BECAUSE your job sucks. And drink some beer.
It's Friday!

First rain ride of the month, a drizzle/mist morning. But upper 50s temps so quite bearable. I put on a windbreaker over my jersey and rode. Got to work, and the wife called and needed me to help her get something out of the attic. She's leaving town at lunchtime, so I planned the timing, left at 10am, still heavy drizzle half the way home.

I timed it so I could catch the bus back in. A ride home this afternoon would have been sooo much better (and drier according to the forecast)!

rando 09-22-06 10:00 AM

great! nice and cool. tons of cyclists out ...

hairlessbill 09-22-06 10:08 AM

Windy ride home yesterday so that wasn't much fun, especially having taken the heaviest bike in the lot. Had to dodge a lot of stupid prairie dogs - Boulder loves their rodents. To top it all off I even got passed in the parking lot 100ft from home by a helmetless-jeans-sneaker-backpack-wearing student. Sheesh.

Morning ride in on the Surly this time was much faster and easier. Temps in low 40's and overcast so more layers but it was still an almost no-sweat ride. Got some doughnuts at King Soopers to offset any weight-loss that might have occurred.

Thanks for the kinds words GT. Some days it IS the job but most days its the people I work with. I guess the boss either failed Management 101 or never bothered to take the course in college. :(

True. It's a job and too many days not fun at all.

#1 isn't true for every job. I really liked my last 3 jobs. I left them either for more money or because of corporate downsizing. :(

Thanks everyone.

Gusty!

Ritehsedad 09-22-06 10:13 AM

Missing. I drove in today. :(

But maybe I'll leave early and ride later. :)

Strong headwind going home last night. Peaceful cool foggy coming in this morning.
