Nice ride both ways. I sure am missing riding when it's not dark, though. I'm looking at getting another road bike and keeping this one strictly for commuting since it has mounts for the rack.

My commute...........Hmmm I'll never know as my bike is in the shop getting the wheels straightened! It wasn't too bad a crash but man what an inconvenience! Hip is sore today but atleast my head didn't look like a dropped watermelon on the bitumen. I'll live, my bike will too. cheers for the concern

I rode the Rock Lobster today after some recableing. Just need to add the fenders on it and I'll shoot some photos for the forums.

It was a fun fun ride if a bit chilly (34 F) at the begining. The first climb solved that problem though.

Easy ride in today, a bit chilly, but I'm getting used to it (still need a face cover).

On my ride home yesterday I encountered one of those cyclists that gives everyone a bad name. I think he was a high school kid on a mountain bike. He was wearing black jeans and a dark blue top, so he wasn't very visible to anyone. My first encounter is when we both come to an intersection with a stop sign our direction (He's coming towards me). The cars coming from the left and right do not stop.

I came to a complete stop, signaling and checking for cars....he just rolls through the stop sign and turns right. I shrug, oh well, at least no cars were coming, and make my turn left, so now I am following him down the street. Since I am peddling a little bit faster then him, it doesn't take long before I catch up to him. Just as I get ready to call out "On the left" and pass him, he hooks left, shoots across the street, and up onto the sidewalk of a cross street. He did this in front of me, and cut across a car waiting to turn at the cross street.

Nice warm 40F morning. Too bad it was a tad windy.
Anyhow, I am attempting to shave a little weight off by eating a bit less. Consequently, I am taking it easier on my commutes. Yet my times are the same or better. Perhaps I will toss my psuedo training and just take it easy till spring. *shrugs*
I have decided to swap my commutes when it starts regularly dropping below freezing.
Current: am 28 miles. PM 17 miles and a bus
Taking the long way after work should be more enjoyable being that it is in the warmest part of the day.
The exception would be when I have to pick up my son from preschool once a week.

Smooth pavement feels so good to ride on. The usual commute complete w/ zig zagging around cars as usual. Legs are still sore, but nothing a good long ride after work shouldn't cure.

I'm already tired of the cold. 33F (1C) when I left home. Brrrrrr.
My new Santini (yellow, fleece lined) arm warmers felt good this morning. So did my thermal(?) leg warmers.
My toes and finger tips were getting cold by the time I got to work.
Too early in the season for these kinds of temperatures. Friday it's supposed to get back to "normal". Of couse "global warming" has screwed up the weather so wtf is normal?

I'm supposed to attend a local bike/ped conference tomorrow (https://www.dot.state.ga.us/bikeped/b...nf/index.shtml) so I'll get to commute to work, then to the conference, then do the bike tour, then home. My kinda day. Too bad it won't be warmer.

39 degrees when I left the house. A fine ride in, but I did 22 *hard* miles last night right before midnight, so I was pretty weary this morning. I love biking in the cold -- it's like swimming in cool water without getting wet -- but you really do have to work harder. So now I'm in a warm office and feeling that nice familiar ache in the muscles. I love that. I cannot wait for the temperatures to drop in to the teens and twenties. That's what separates the wheat from the chaff.

Hard frost this morning. Speed was limited to about 15mph to keep the windchill down. First, completely clear sky in awhile, with a nice sunrise, right in my eyes.

Yet another perfect bike commute day: 51F, calm air, visibility unlimited. My only mishap was taking a speed bump too quickly and launching a binder out of my pannier.

I took a slightly different route than usual, just for fun and found myself riding past the house of the Democratic candidate for Governor. No lawn sign. You'd think he'd have a lawn sign. I wonder if he knocks on his neighbors' doors and says "Hi, I'm Phil. I live in the brown house around corner and I'm running for Governor. Please vote for me." I doubt it.

My commute started out innocently enough this morning -- it was cold (in the thirties) and I was enjoying the brisk air. I got a little past my half way point and heard some idiot honking behind me. I was in the right third of the right hand lane going at a decent clip -- there was an empty passing lane to my left as well. As it turns out, the honking idiot was driving a monster of a cement truck, and he came within an inch or two of me , almost knocking me off my bike, but thankfully I was going fast enough that gyroscopic forces prevented that.

At the next red light I came up beside him and asked, rather emphatically, what that was about. He then informed me that I should not be on the road -- to which I countered the DC code does not allow me on the sidewalks, and I am afforded the same rights and responsibilities that any other vehicle has on the roads. The guy was just smiling about the fact that he almost killed me. I got his plate number and employer and I think I'll give them a call this afternoon. Although, it probably won't do any good.

It never ceases to amaze me how people think that a perceived 5 seconds faster commute is worth endangering a bicyclist's life. And, point of fact, because it was in the city, I passed the guy again and again -- he saved no time being a reckless buffoon.

On the upside, I think I've proven to myself that I can stick it out for the winter (it doesn't get that much colder here). AND ... I stepped on the scales this morning after my commute and am down 8 lbs since I started a little over 2 months ago (and 18 from my peak weight). With the exception of almost getting hit, life is good, and I'm feeling better than I have in a long time.

Actually, it would surprise me if this call didn't do some good. It today's litigous US of A, Companies can't afford to ignore reports of dangerous drivers in their vehicles. If you are serious about it. Send a letter by some means with a proof of reciept - priority mail is probably the cheapest. That puts them on notice that they can not deny knowledge of this driver's reckless behavoir because someone has a record of them hearing about it. Stuff like that is damning in a lawsuit.

It was cold this morning, 37 degrees. But once I started the weather was the least of my worries. A cold, clear crisp morning and a sunny cold and windy ride home.

I had some tool in a van honk at me and tell me to ride on the sidewalk. It is trash pickup day and the sidewalk is totally blocked with supercans. So a totally obtuse sugestion no matter how you look at it. I'm towing a kiddie trailer and just can't get around these things. There is a whole 'nother lane and it isn't any problem to get around, and I'm only on that road for two blocks, doing 20. I just ignore tools like this because they will always be around. If he wants to ruin his day by obsessing over something meaningless, less power to him.

I'd make calling the company one of my main goals for the day. You'd be surprised how many companies worry about potential lawsuits, public image, etc.

Here in Georgia simply driving in a manner that endangers others (cyclists) is illegal. Check what your laws say about it. Maybe a call to the cops would be worthwhile.

Nice cold ride in this morning with temps in the low 30s. Wasn't expecting temps this low so early so I had to get ready and dig out all my winter gear last night. Kept everything warm except my toes but they weren't too bad. Sunny and breezy for the ride home. Probably the last few days of riding home in the daylight

I was FAST today!!! Well, for me anyway... and only in the morning.

Still, I pretty much paced all motor traffic on my commute (and, no, it was well before rush hour! ).

On the way back... uphill, tired, lots of groceries to haul. But still fun.

I called his company -- the supervisor I talked to seemed very receptive to my complaints ... he even said that his driver has to "share the road" and the he would ensure he is made to realize that. Hopefully some good will come out of the incident.

The last time I called to complain about a company driver who endangered me (ran a red light) I got an immediate and very apologetic call from the owner of the HVAC repair company, and later a call from the driver himself, apologizing.

These days I'd be concerned about the guy having my home number (stinking caller ID), but back then I never gave it a thought.
