got honked at and yelled at yesterday... I believe he called me a *****. or a son of one. and then someone yelled something in spanish something something "Hermano" something. (brother?) my first time riding on this particular busy street that is under construction. had a good ride after that though.

Quiet wet snowy (about 3-4 inches on the ground) ride into work this morning. Tried out the wintereized SS with some cross tires and they worked fine. Need new brake pads though, made for some exciting white-knuckle downhills. I think I will go with the fixed-gear setup next time. I wasn't the only crazy out there; lots of tire tracks on the patch before I got there. The only annoying thing was getting splattered by cars as they went by. Fenders don't help with that...

bikedaddy 10-26-06 10:12 AM

A beautiful snowy day. Wife tried to talk to me out of riding but I just put fenders on and needed to test them out. I do need some good winter pants becaue all of my 3 layers were soaked. I also saw other tracks on the bike path... I guess I'm not the only psycho!

A no-foot-down commute.

Saw three lycra-clad warriors and many guys and gals with panniers and mirrors (one per minute or so). Commuters like near-empty MUPs :).

Check it out at rush hour. Tons of commuters on that trail after 5 pm. Just watch out for all the geese and their droppings.

Looks like I'll be caging it for a while. Wife (athletic trainer) checked out the knee I tweaked in my spill yesterday, declared that I'll live but I appear to have a sprained MCL. Nothing life-threatening, but it's going to keep me off the bike, out of the running shoes, and walking like a very old man for a few days at least...

Bikedaddy - I could have avoided this if I had decided NOT to test the fenders I put on the night before yesterday! Glad your fender test was more successful than mine!

Wow. I made a lot of lights today I usually don't, but not that many.

Grey day today. A bit of spritzing here and there, but only ever enough to make me look around to see if somebody for some dumb reason had a sprinkler on.

Rode back home for lunch, and across four lanes, I saw my wife starting her bike commute.

I blew her a kiss.

For real. Several .001 mph creeping towards the light, but I had a couple honest to goodness trackstands going at T and L Streets.

I bow to you.

Fine ride in this morning. It was a bit warmer than I expected. I stopped at Chik-fil-A to redeem my free-breakfast coupon and it was packed with local highschool kids at about 8:15 am. What time does school start around here? Bunch of hoodlums, no doubt....

I'm trying to think of some errands to run on the way home this afternoon but don't need anything other than the post office. I'll have to add some miles just for fun.

GreenAnvil 10-26-06 03:17 PM

Gorgeous afternoon. 41F with a 5mph north wind; cool but not bad at all for this time of the year.

Wind. I don't like wind. Swirly, gusty, blustery. I felt like a flag in the middle of a hurricane today. I couldn't even walk right when I finally arrived, about 10 minutes later than usual. Oh well, at least it was a good workout. :)

And it's getting a bit nippy here in PHX. I may have go with the long pants and long-sleeved shirt for tomorrow's commute. Oh well, it's about time and it won't be for too long. In the blink of an eye we'll be riding buck naked in that legendary desert heat.

buzzman 10-26-06 11:55 PM

long day today again. rode in to do a student matinee performance, then rode about 5 miles to teach, then 5 miles back again for a 7:30p performance then rode home at 11:30p. total round trip today was 32 miles. this on top of my present schedule is a challenge.

I'll sleep good tonight. Thought I'd lost my keys on the ride home tonight and fortunately I was wrong.

RonH 10-27-06 04:57 AM

Holy crap. I'm taking the cage today. I DO NOT like arriving at work soaking wet.

ModoVincere 10-27-06 06:01 AM

I did the same thing RonH. Bike would have been quicker though. People in the ATL can't drive when its wet.

dalmore 10-27-06 06:02 AM

I caged it today too RonH. Are we wimps or what?

My excuse is that I plan to ride a metric century tomorrow and was planning to drive today anyway. I even reworked my commutes to still get three days in this week.

Well, except for the ride home yesterday. Halfway through a busy intersection, my chain broke! I had to coast/wheelchair it the rest of the way, with the chain dragging several feet behind me. G** D*** that's embarrasing. I'm not sure exactly how it happened, because the chain was actually stuck between the low gear on the r. der. and the spokes. Whether that was the cause of the break or the result of it, I have no idea. It took me a few mins to fix at the side of the road and I was on my way.

What sucks is that up to that point, I was having a really good run; I managed to hit 50 on a straight section where I usually top out at 40, and was set to arrive home in record time (for fall, anyway). Ah well.

Mr_H 10-27-06 06:52 AM

40 degrees, bit of wind, overcast, and a sprinkle. It's really dark out when I start coming in and the sky is overcast....I think I need to adjust my front headlight (doesn't shine out as far as I want it to).
At least the cars have been nice this week, no one trying to hit me. :)

Rode the bike. Arrived at work soaking wet. :( Realized that water had leaked into my left pannier and spent 5 minutes holding my slacks up to the hand dryer in the men's restroom.

jyossarian 10-27-06 07:22 AM

Yesterday's ride home was the usual zig-zag affair that included taking a whole lane w/ a pedicab until he got stuck in traffic. I asked him how business was and he said it was ok, but that it would pick up later in the evening.

No commute today
VPN'd into the network
And working from home
