They do mean well but it's a bit wearing on the nerves! I think I'll try to get the 8 or 9 years worth out of the way really quickly, by doing a lot of long weekend rides this summer. Then my commuting will become less amazing, at least until it snows and I continue to do it.

teevio 06-08-07 02:00 PM

The commute was great, sunny, perfect temp, but a little congested. I think Harvard is doing some kind of graduation ceremonies this week(end).

Had my first walk of shame today... And NOT from a flat... I had tools to fix that.... The Darn handlebar came loose... I didnt have an allen wrench, so I ended up carying my bike the 1.2 miles home... No biggie, but my shoulder is sore now....

That's insane!

Of course it's insane. To quote myself from my last post "dumb as all get-out". I wasn't disputing that. Was just commenting on Mississauga's bike paths.

Why wouldn't you just roll it??

devildogmech 06-08-07 03:14 PM

I rolled it part of the way, but found it was easier carry it, faster...

I totally agree with your comments on their bike baths. I take the Burnhamthorpe path daily and I have many issues with it as well. It's still better than being on Burnhamthorpe with all those maniacs out there.

It's nice that Mississauga has done a lot of these bike paths all over their city but you can tell that it wasn't really thoroughly thought out before hand. Just one look at the map and you'll see how a lot of it is just "patchwork" and not a real network.

Thanks! And, so THAT'S what that means. I'm used to the more Type-A, stress-filled "HMFIC" so I couldn't for the life of me guess what the HHC was for.

Tassles--That's what I'm missing! Pink and silver glittering happy tassles!

Also, I feel for you on the 16-week-old deciding to sleep, but you've forgotten how.

Gorgeous day today, but still a little windy... however I'll take it over yesterday any day! Came to the bike rack at the end of the day to find the back tire low on air... I inspected the tire for punctures but I didn't find anything... the tire seems to be ok. Hmm... maybe a fellow rider trying to pull a prank on me? :) I just pumped more air into the tire and rode cautiously to make sure I didn't mess the rim should the tire go flat during my ride. 4+ hours later and the tire still hasn't lost any pressure.

sigh

Yep the walk of shame. I'm OK, as I dig out the tube, put another in and take out my CO2 and ... and ... realize I did not pack the cartridge. :(

GreenAnvil 06-09-07 02:47 PM

Ran some errands this morning that took me to the far east side of town (past Powers, Ascent Cycling on Stetson Hills Blvd). Overall 30 miles at about 12mph. Lots of hills too. I'm happy.

Hooray! The beginning of another week of commute! Last week my fenders were delivered on the day it poured, but it felt good nonetheless to put them on, and know thst things will be drier in the future.
It seems that since I got the rack and trunk bag, I got faster, but also I enjoy the ride more.
Folks at the office are pretty much used to seeing me arrive and leave by bicycle now, and used to the fact that for the time being,my bike gets parked in the break room (no racks here, and perhaps that's a good thing, there's waay too much foot traffic for me to feel comfortable trusting my wheels to an out- of -sight rack with minimal or no oversight).
homeless guy looks out for me morning and afternooon, and for the most part, the swift trip with few hills is a pleasure to ride.

Absolutely beautiful day! Sunny and mid 60's this morning with no wind. Low 80's later on with plenty of sun. Got caught by a train and got held up a little bit. I saw a couple other bike commuters today as well.

vtjim 06-11-07 06:33 AM

60F. No wind. Low humidity. Sunny with some haze in the sky. Very nice. I stopped on the bike bridge and looked at the Adirondacks (Whiteface was barely visible through the haze), and some geese in the water. A guy on a 'bent came by and we exchanged greetings. I let him get some distance on me, then I continued riding. I reeled him in but I stayed a respectable distance behind him. 17-18MPH.

On Friday, it was up around 90F. I passed a couple of well-geared guys who had just unloaded their MTBs from a car and were preparing to mount up. They watched me as I went by on my Liquid, and I thought, "Oh boy, here we go. It's gonna turn into a race." :D Sure enough, about a mile later I saw them in my mirror and they were closing, so I dialed it up to 400 watts and fended them off. Fun ride. Fast commute!

dalmore 06-11-07 06:47 AM

Friday evening on the way home i got caught in one of those afternoon thunderstorms we have here in the South. It was the worst I've been in. Could not see well enough to ride so I pulled over to wait it out. I finally got tired of waiting and called the honey wagon for a ride home. Just as she pulls up, the rain stopped. I felt cheated out of the last 5 miles of my ride!!

ModoVincere 06-11-07 06:51 AM

Freakin humid....and from what I understand, this afternoon could be interesting. Some storms in SC are expected to move this way and may be quite severe. Should make for a fun ride home.

Kirk Turtle 06-11-07 07:29 AM

We got started just a tad late, so I set the pace for my boys. Didn't take as long, and they kept up just fine. We passed one of the local probation officers, I deal with her through my work. I suspect this was not the kind of "biker gang" she's used to encountering.

Weather was nice, a little humid. And for a little bit there was a noisy blackbird directly overhead. And I mean di -rectly. Thankfully the bomb bay doors failed to open.

luckysnafu 06-11-07 08:46 AM

It was actually a very nice morning here today, temps below 70 for the first time in well over a week. I took it easy and enjoyed the ride. I have been getting up earlier and leaving earlier which lets me beat a lot of traffic so I don't have as many JAMs to deal with. I put a rack on my bike this weekend so I don't have to wear my backpack anymore :) Temps will stay in the mid 80s today so the ride home should be nice, unless I get caught in a storm.

jyossarian 06-11-07 08:46 AM

First commute in a month so I haven't been hanging around in here as much as usual. Took it slow to work cuz I was still sleepy and ended up doing the usual zig-zag, lane splitting maneuvers that make commuting so much fun. After spending the last couple weeks in Toronto where I felt guilty for running red lights (everybody there stops and waits for red lights!) it felt so good to just run reds and not feel guilty about it. :D

MyPC8MyBrain 06-11-07 09:05 AM

Summer is here ! First ride where it was warm enought to almost be uncomfortable. I love it! Maybe is was because I didn't leave the house until after 8:00am but what the heck, it was nice. Can't wait for the ride home.

This is recovery/slowdown week because RideTheRockies starts this Sunday. I'll likely not ride besides to work and back just to keep the legs spinning.

HardyWeinberg 06-11-07 09:19 AM

I was c-c-c-cold last night, should not have been for just 60F, my metabolism must be shifting for the summer... Anyway 50F this morning was perfect. Roads damp but no rain, just sun. Trailered Thing 2 to daycare, worked my way back to MUP I take from home (connected ~.75 miles above home), then onto work as usual. Well, stop at Office Depot for Li AAAs.

pinkrobe 06-11-07 09:43 AM

Pretty decent ride in today - no drama, but lots of speed. :)

caloso 06-11-07 09:55 AM

Crappy. The driver of a POS Buick apparently didn't think I belonged in the lane. She rode up to my wheel and honked. I gave her The Look and kept pedaling. She laid on the horn for the next couple of blocks and for a moment I thought of just slowing to a trackstand but I know the timing on the lights in that stretch and knew that if I kept the pace I'd make all the lights. Screw her. I'm not riding in the door zone just because she's late. It's especially irksome because that stretch is a three-lane one-way boulevard and the middle and left lanes were clear. Just go around!

Then about a mile further, the driver of a POS Honda tried to occupy the same space that I was traveling in. This one appeared to be clueless and inattentive rather than malicious. Unfortunately, I was still hot from the first JAM and I yelled a bad word at her.

Still and all, I arrived at work on time and in one piece. And that's all that really counts.

DataJunkie 06-11-07 10:14 AM

Makes you almost wish it was cold out again so these fools would go back inside.

I have one remaining cycling goal for this year, to ride to and from work the entire way each day one week. Today is day one. I should have around 300 miles for this week when I finish friday. Heck, with a century the sun before last I had 340. Me like miles. Someday I will hit 400 in one week.
Nice and warm this morning...60F

JR97 06-11-07 10:16 AM

Uneventful, but nice and cool air. My bike was fullly loaded, so it was pretty slow going. The ride home is going to suck being fully loaded and taking 2 major hills and 2 minor ones plus the heat. *sigh*

Yep, cycling got so much easier for me when I quit drinking.

kafkaesque 06-11-07 10:22 AM

Either I am getting stronger or the hills are getting flatter.

Great weather this morning, nice and cool.

mtnwalker 06-11-07 10:44 AM

No ride today. After some mountain biking yesterday to try and get rid of a queasy feeling in my stomach that turned out to be a virus, my daughter got sick also but worse. So I have to stay home today and watch her. :( I was hoping to ride my fast bike today too.

Wife is an alchoholic, but now sober which pretty means I, too, am now sober. *sigh*.

Itsjustb 06-11-07 11:24 AM

Fast but uneventful this morning. I loved not having wind.
