Great weather this morning, nice and cool. I had a suicidal gopher zig-zag about three times directly under my front wheel! It looked like the little bugger jumped through the spokes! Nevertheless, it was a nice ride. |

Armadillo elites paid off this morning. Picked up a huge nail. I was late for class already so i yanked it out, to my surprise i didnt hear air or anything(to much traffic anyway). the nail was in the tread, im talking IN the tread.

Wow, caloso... Sucks about the morons! Sometimes I think cyclists should be allowed to carry vapourizers and make JAMs disappear... Maybe then we'd see some respect for cyclists on the road.
|
Beautiful morning...coming home though was a different story. Lost front tube and got soaked on the walk home. Still happy that I wasn't in a car.

52 and Blustery. Riding partner bailed due to rain...He doesn't have the gear

By Chicago standard's, it was a hot day, mid 80's and a moderate headwind.
I can't carpool tomorrow, so I'll be doing a full commute...a 35 mile roundtrip. |
a very nice day here. lower 80's, low humidity, but a bit of a headwind coming home. The ride in was quite pleasant, and pretty much the whole ride home was too, save for the idiot in the jeep who buzzed me and the jerk kids in the lumina who tried to throw water on me. they completely missed and i gave them the "WTF" hands in the air and look. they just sped off... turds. I wanted to unload my water bottle inside their car. First time I've ever had anything thrown at me. Of course I was climbing a major hill and the water would have felt nice, but still...

It's nice that Mississauga has done a lot of these bike paths all over their city but you can tell that it wasn't really thoroughly thought out before hand. Just one look at the map and you'll see how a lot of it is just "patchwork" and not a real network. |
Low 60Fs, calm wind, sunny. Kind of humid (83%) but not too bad. I reeled in 6 other cyclists. That might be a morning record. Passed all but one, as I was about to exit the MUP.
Also saw a family of geese swimming in Lake Champlain. 2 adults, and 4 or 5 goslings. So cute. :o The adults were honking at me. |
WOO HOO!
Left later than I wanted to, but I didn't wuss out. Went the whole way (18.16 miles) in 1:10:12! Reached 27mph down a really nice decline...wee! High 60's, clear and sunny to give way to low 80's this afternoon. Can't wait for the ride home. |
Been on the MTB since Saturday as my roadie back wheel needs truing and a couple spokes replacing. Off work yesterday meant a couple trips to the doctors and whatever, then ride out east and back so I got some miles in.
Had a good ride in, quite a few bikes out on the lakeshore trail and on King St. W, nothing crazy to report - the highlight was waiting for not one, but two GO Trains to pass on Strachan. |
Went the whole way (18.16 miles) This morning was just perfect, a day when plans coming together conspired with perfect weather and beautiful scenery. New bike, new routine of riding 4 mile, very hilly route to the YMCA for some free weights, then back on the bike for three and a half more miles into the office. Just me pedaling thru the midlife freak-out. :) What a great morning. |
Not too shabby today - light showers, but cool enough that I needed to wear a jacket, which also kept me dry. Very fast as well...
|
Nice ride this morning :) - I took yesterday off after my lots-o-miles weekend just to be safe. Took the Norco Tank today and had some fun going through a construction zone and some puddles (closest I'll get to a MTB outing for a while!).
|
I made it rain by washing and waxing up the bike last night. Ducked in between storms on the way in but now the bike is skanky again... sigh.
I sucked in a bug on the way up the hill. I was hungry, so it worked out ok...for one of us anyways :) |
Great morning, great ride. Took both kids in the trailer (in opposite directions; the older was a total slacker, he usually bikes himself, although he needs a grownup to sign him in so can't go solo; kids these days...), they were both in good moods when I dropped them off. Had hoped to catch my wife if she left our house at a reasonable time, but she was apparently a total slacker too, and either did not leave at a reasonable time, or drove (or she left immediately and kicked my butt, not an impossibility I suppose).

The gods tempted me today with sacrifices, but I renounced them.
First was a pedestrian walking on the wrong side of the MUP, but I shewed him the path of righteousness. Next was a cyclist wandering in the wrong side of the road while straggling at the back of his pack. Upon him I released my fury, and he veered off the path into gravel (and on the wrong side, still!) Finally I came upon a bunny in the middle of the road. Sitting on the little yellow line, torn between left and right, and passed by cyclists on either side (me and another commuter). We both missed him by inches. "Death to bunnies!" I cried. |
It was good. Same route, same time, and same taking the lane as yesterday but none of yesterday's problems. Also today I'm on the race bike. A new stem arrived from Nashbar and I wanted to try it out. It's only 1 cm longer, but what a difference that makes. I feel low and fast. Can't wait for the next group training ride.

Slowing at a light, some dude in a Range Rover passes a little too close and I kinda gave him an undecipherable audible. When we stopped at the light I noticed his window was down, so I pulled next to him and gave him the "3-foot" spiel. He actually apologized, citing that he normally doesn't drive that car and then complimented me on my pace.
It was a rather odd exchange. |
Have a friend in from good old NY NY. She road with me on the morning commute (about 12 of the 14 miles) and then took the train down to school to meet with her graduate advisor. Rolled along at a very leisurely pace (took an extra 40 minutes), but it was nice to have extra time out in the sunny cool morning.
|
I forgot to add something very bizarre about my commute this morning: There's this quiet little grassy area just off the MUP that has a picnic table. A guy(?) was sleeping on the picnic table, covered head-to-toe with a thick blanket, presumably to ward off the swarms of mosquitoes that must have been trying to attack him. It's right next to swampland!
An MTB was propped up next to the picnic table. Now this is in a residential area. Unlikely to be a homeless dude so far from the usual amenities. I guessed he was guerilla camping, but it was kinda freaky. He was inside the curve of the MUP on this map. You can kinda see the table, actually. |
Fast again. I'm really loving not having a wind in the morning.
|
I took the fast bike out today. The morning chill seemed colder this morning and it took me 10 minutes to warm up. Otherwise the traffic seemed lighter than usual. What a difference 5 minutes earlier makes. I felt strong even after a case of the stomach virus yesterday and attacked the hills. I noticed this dayglow yellow green spec and made it my target for the day. The race is on. After about 10 minutes I was within 50 yards of him. He was still oblivious of the race that he was in. Then all of a sudden he turns right on an intersection away from my route. Oh, well. I STILL WIN!:D

Did my first commute today. It's only 6 miles each way. Nothing interesting happened other than I forgot that Atlanta gets a 5pm thunderstorm every afternoon this time of year. I had convinced a girl in the office that she needed to commute with me and she did fine. We got wet but the rain feels good in the heat. I think we're hooked. If you live in Atlanta and are thinking of commuting you should really study the bike suitability maps at http://www.atlantabike.org/Maps.html. It made the whole thing possible. Drivers around here will never be accused of being cycling aware so the route is key.
|
Congratulations on your first commute. Keep at it.
I'm still to encounter that warm rain myth. We'll see. |
A little rougher heading home...18.18 miles in 1:16:26. 15mph headwind was killer.
