I over slept this morning and I briefly considered driving, but I knew without my morning ride I would be complete rubbish at work today so I got on the bike and rode in.

9F this morning, which is the coldest day yet. First day I wasn't overdressed . Had my first wreck of the season. Coming down a short hill to the main road into work, and I noticed the car in front of me sliding all over the place trying to stop at the stop sign. My HID battery had died shortly before, so I didn't see the ice. I scrubbed some speed, put one foot down, and down I went. Thankfully on my big a$$, so I didn't feel it. Unfortunately the mount to my handlebar light broke.

Starting to wish I had ordered those studded tires after all. Maybe I will . . .

55F and drizzly this am, still breezy from the South. The wether dudes swear a cold front is comg, bringing ice and snow and such... but i doubt it.
First day on the new Schwalbe Marathon 1.75" tires. nice ride, very svelte and smooth. my all-time most bulletproof tires to date have been Nimbus Armadillo, got alomst 3k miles out of those with very few flats. the Schwalbe sure rides a lot better, we'll see how they hold up.

Really nice ride in this morning. Mid 40's F and cloudy skies. No real buzzes and a co-worker even passed me in the other lane to be nice.

No bike this morning but I did walk in because I had to go to the dentist and it's right on the way to the office. Plus I started to replace the cables late last night but got tired and went to bed before I finished.

Rode in early this AM for 0600 Army PT. Temp was about 38 so not to bad. I crossed the Battlefield park in full darkness so I didn't see any deer but I could sure here them. Have a great weekend and happy MLK day.

cold! Radio said 14F out. Closed the pitzips on my coat, kept the facemask on all the way in (tried it yesterday but had to pull it down, too much eyeglass fog).

Chilly (32F/0C with the windchill down to 22F). I was worried about frost on the lemon trees last night but the wind blew all my tarps off. Of course, if the wind is that strong, there's not much chance of frost settling. Anyway, about the commute...

I've received nothing but compliments about my new hi-viz green jacket. Of course the compliment is always followed by "But can you believe those idiots who ride around in all black with no lights?" Yeah, I know. It's dangerous.

So much warmer than yesterday! 'Twas a balmy -12C when I left the house, and it's supposed to get up to -9C. Time to dig out the shorts...

The commute today was....exciting.

At one point on my route I cross over a major highway on an overpass. The overpass is 8 lanes wide--2 straight-thru lanes in each direction, a left-turn lane for each direction, and a break-down lane for each direction.

I was stopped at a light just before the overpass with a car in front of me and a line of traffic behind. I'd taken the lane--I don't ride in the break-down lane on the overpass; I've already popped a tire there because of the debris plus it's just not safe. The light changed, and we all started pulling away from the light. The car behind me honked. I ignored it. Suddenly I heard the engine revving, and the car behind me pulled into the break-down lane to pass me, then went back into the thru lane and sped off.

Normally I'm VERY non-confrontational, but my blood was boiling. The car pulled into an office complex about a mile ahead. I lost it for a little bit, but spotted it in a day-care parking lot. I went inside and asked if anyone there knew the driver. They didn't, but they said if they saw her (it was a woman, I saw that as she passed me) they'd tell her. I borrowed a piece of paper and a pen and left a note on the car's windshield expressing my anger. I even gave her my phone number in case she wants to discuss it further.

That was a few hours ago. Haven't had a call yet, unfortunately.

As for me, I bussed it this morning since the wife is picking me up from work this afternoon. We're leaving straight from here to go to the in-law's a couple of hours away. But I went all out on the way home yesterday knowing I'm not riding again until Tuesday AM. Chilly (42°F), but I'm enjoying my new rack trunk.

Much warmer this morning with temps around 40. Had a pretty regular commute in. Looking forward to riding home in shorts this afternoon.

Today's commute was warm - 48 degrees on the way in! I had to unzip my coat and push the sleeves up just to keep cool. I was very glad for the extra padding when I fell over at a stoplight. I'm very much hoping I get used to these clipless pedals soon. *Sigh* Made good time - my legs are finally getting used to the workout, and now the limiting factor is cardiovascular. I had to slow down 4 or 5 times because my heart rate was too high. Nice to be making progress though.

Well didn't ride in due to the extreme cold however I regret. I've rode in colder than today. Oh well.. working OT tomorrow so I plan on riding then.

I don't post in this thread much since I no longer have internet access at home, but I will this time. Last Thursday the MUP I use to get to work was flooded so I had to cross the nearby train tracks and blaze a trail through some woods. And if you've ever been in the woods in Tennessee you know that they consist mainly of thousands of vines and underbrush, so that wasn't so much fun. But other than that commuting by bike continues to be one of the best moves I've ever made. Today was nice because it wasn't very cold and I saw several deer this morning. A couple of weeks ago I saw twelve deer in one spot, and last night I got very close to a few that couldn't figure out what I was.

still icy and below freezing. still fun. i'm just pleased with my progress at learning to handle myself on ice. i noticed that i actually got a bit frustrated with the lack of workout; there wasn't anywhere i felt it would be sensible to use any speed, so parts of it even came in just this side of boring. on the other hand, that whole slithery-bike feel is different enough to still be interesting and fun in its own way, so eh. i'm still letting the bus bring me most of the way home at night though, because of the visibility aspect. it was fun finding my own tracks from the previous day's ride still there in the ice, and following them.

noticed that i strained a few tendons or something in the past couple of days, probably from keeping the handlebars straight over rough ground. today i put a pressure bandage on the worst of it and it seemed like it helped.

Welcome, kbrown. It is addicting to be one of the HHCMFers. Today was 24F with a 17F windchill. This is a new record cold commute for me. This is out here in '"sunny" California. I want some global warming right here... Great ride both ways. I really like my new Ksyrium Elites. They are nice and light and fast compared to the stockers. No problems with any drivers coming too close. I added a Superflash to my TL-LD1000 out back, and I think it just confuses them enough to give me three feet. I'll take it!

17F with a 11F windchill on the way in. New record cold. Brrrr. When I got to work I took off my balaclava and had a red oval on my face. Same thing after a hot shower. I am not enjoying this weather. But the commute was good!

Freezing bloody rain. Need I say more.

Pleasant ride in this morning but somehow I managed to get grease on my pants, any suggestions to get it out.

I haven't gone in yet, the university is closed til noon. I'm complating weather I should risk the biking or not, seeing as how we got several inches of snow. Now, me on the bike, I'm not worried about. I'd feel like I have better control over the bike then the car.
It's those fools in the cars on the slippery roads that worry me :/

Warm and windy ride in today. Temps in the low 60s so I was in shorts. Still got pretty hot by the time I got to work even though I had a strong head/cross wind most of the way in. Record high's in the 70s for this afternoon. Can't wait for winter to return later this week.

Well today is supposed to be a holiday for me but I'm going to work anyway. I am not riding due to the cold and snow... I know I'm a wuss but I've had enough. Can't wait to have a snow free commute. I will be back at tomorrow and go through Friday. I am always happy if I do 4 days a week.
