Nice, sunny day, with a good tailwind. Started about 30min before sunrise. Getting a bit cooler, first trip this fall with the long tights. I figure we have about a month before the first snow here. If I can average 75miles a week, I've got a 4000 mile year in the bag.

No rain on the way home but everything was wet and very dreary. The wind was HORRIBLE. I have to cross two large bridges and I was a little scared of getting blown off the top into the Lafayette River. Haha. After coming off the second bridge, there's a large median in the center of the road so each side is one lane. There is a shoulder but it's full of huge white speed bumps/reflectors so you can't ride there safely. It's a residential 25mph street. I got tailgated all the way down the street by a dude in a big red suburban, laying on the horn the whole time. When he finally was able to pass me, he was on his phone. He rolled down his window and was yelling something, I just grinned at him. Ugh. Too bad I passed him at the next stoplight.

Cool this morning -- I need a better headlight. I hadn't been out for about a week. I went from a Target hybrid to a Fuji roadbike, and my carpal tunnel got aggravated so I was off the bike for about a week. I finally got some good gel gloves. But it got dark at 6 am while I wasn't paying attention!

But the ride home was great -- can't complain about 62 degrees in late October in Wisconsin.

Had a killer wind today. Coming out of the east, and of course I ride right into it. 12 mph, gusts of 20 mph. 59f. Maybe have rain tom'rw.

Wow, I rode in rush hour a couple of days in a row. Normally I try to arrange my highly flexible schedule to avoid that. WHAT A FRIGGING ZOO! Amazing congestion and amazingly poor driving all around.

On the way home I bought a desk lamp and was carrying a highly awkward load on my back as a result. The messenger bag wanted to slip off despite the stabilization strap. So I actually rode on the sidewalk on a very congested narrow arterial (Yonge St. south of St. Clair). Normally I would have either tried to lane-split (exciting, given how narrow the lanes are) or just taken my place in line and waited, but going uphill with that kind of crazily-behaving bag... nah, sidewalk was the way to go, even with all the peds. Only spent a few hundred metres on it anyway.

Wow, that sucks and is annoying. I hope you heal up fast, and don't have any more dog problems.

My two daughters and I took our cocker spaniel (Daisy) out for a run with our bikes. A lady's dog ran full tilt at Daisy. My front wheel nailed the assailing dog t-bone like. My bike stopped dead, I flew off and sustained some scrapes and bruises. The dog yelped and ran back into the house from which it and the lady had come. I told the lady, "It's a good thing your dog ran away."

To which she replied, "You startled her!"

To which I replied, "We were riding bicycles!"

To which she replied, "Sorry"

I am glad to say Daisy was unharmed.

She lets her dog run at large on public property and then blames YOU for the accident? Fantastic.

came home via Commonwealth Ave and got home in time to catch the last innings of the Sox game- they won again! I'll never get used to the Red Sox winning in the post season. :eek:

Thunderstorms today. Had to drive. :(

Crisp. 33F. I brought my camera and took a few pictures but the light wasn't good as the sun wasn't fully up over the Green Mountains yet. I'll take more on the ride home.

Got passed by a regular as I was mounting up after taking a picture. I usually pass her. :p We exchanged hellos. I didn't see her again because I stopped twice more for pictures.

There was an abandoned bicycle in some trees across the street from our property. :mad: If it's still there when I get home, I'm rescuing it and calling the police to report it. Too dark to see if it was a nice bike.

Aaaah.... a GLORIOUS ride in to work in the RAIN!!

I had to dust off my rain gear (literally) - it's been so long since we've had a decent shower down here!

I took a nice spin around the neighborhood yesterday on the Tarmac. That felt good.
I finally have stopped hurting. The irritating thing was not knowing what caused what injury. For a while there everything hurt.
Anyhow, I am commuting using the bus and light rail on days I do not work from home.
Today I actually had to drive to the bus. Ugh! However, I have my broken bike in the back of my van and will finally take it to a LBS to get a quote on what it is worth for the insurance. Plus, I get to start bike hunting again. Woo hoo!

Although cloudy, a nice day to ride, 55f, light wind. Traffic somewhat heavy for a friday, but I was running about 20min late. Carried my rain gear as the radio forecast rain, but My-cast is more optimistic.

Speedometer turned over 3700 yesterday.

brrrr..cold out there today. -5C when I left.

We're having a debate here at work about the level of liability dog owners have for such accidents. I think they are responsible to put me back in the condition I was in before the dog hit my bike; clothes, bike et. al. I think that is the honorable thing to do. Some people here think that they'd only pay to repair the bike. So I should have to replace $150 of clothes and helmet ruined by the actions of a loose dog?

Other people say the owners are completely liable and could face fines and other damage. I wonder if there is a standard, lawful obligation of dog/pet owners for accidents or damage caused by their pets?

Today was a balaclava day. Unfortunately, I did not have a balaclava with me. I still have my ears, but I was a little worried on the way in. It's time to get out the cold-weather gear for real...

Cold! 30sF. Beautiful sunrise though, pink glow on the capital dome, nice mountains over the inlet... Had both kids today, 6 yr old on his bike, <3 yr old in the trailer. She was happy in her blanket. Caught a lot of lights bringing her downtown. Running late, took the shortest straightest route to work after dropping her off, only a mile longer than shortest route from home (2 miles shorter than scenic less car-ry route I usually aim for on 2 kid days).

Cool and windy, but good. Felt very slow but I guess I just kept the cadence up and managed to get here in the lower bounds of my normal time. I think I hit some lights nicely too which helps.

The wind is a major pain in the buttocks right now, but it's more training and I've been getting on OK regardless.

4:30 am 55f very slight drizzle, could hardly feel it. I overdressed with rain jacket and light jacket underneath. Had my thin balaclava on, didn't really need it. Afternoon ride home. 62f se wind 7mph, it felt stronger. Still a nice day to ride. Forecast is calling for morning temps in the upper 30's. Gettin' ready.

First ride in the rain since the summer, and first ever cool-weather rain ride past a drizzle. Must get another layer or two for my November ride; what I have is barely enough for October.

It's quite true that once you e soaked, you can't get any wetter and, assuming you're warm enough, rain isn't a problem.

First day back on the bike after vacation.

Nice ride home. Tailwind. Fairly warm in the 50s. I took some decent pictures. Have to post them later. I stopped at a stop sign and the cager without a stop sign stopped as well. We had the stare-down until he waved me to go. :rolleyes: Whatever dude. I went. :o

vtjim- nice fall pic. The colors this time of year are spectacular in New England. The light is also terrific because of the angle of the sun. Funny that it should be so colorful as we have less and less light each day this time of year.

I had a little shorter commute (8 mile each way) and I must say I was thankful for a less than 1/2 hour commute. I'm still a little sluggish these days so I appreciated the more moderate ride. Don't know why I'm so sluggish. Probably just need a day or two away from the bike but it's my main means of transport- I suppose I could use the car once in a while but certainly not for my commute. A colleague from work drives in from about a 1/4 mile from my house and goes the way I would go in were I to drive. I asked him:

• How long it takes him- 30 mins - 1 hour+ By bike it takes me from 28 minutes to 45 minutes door to door.
  
• Where he parks and what it costs per month?: Our parking is subsidized by our employer- (I wish my bike ride was!) but it still costs him $175/month- our employer pays another $175.!
  
• He takes the Mass pike, a toll road, it is $2/each way.

Parking and tolls alone equals almost $2500 for the year and my employer is out another $2100 on top of that! That's $4600 not including gas, wear and tear on the car, insurance etc., for one person to drive their car. Wow. It never quite hit home until I asked him. I should video us leaving the same building, intercut with him in his car and me on the bike. I'd probably get home before him and I could have a running tally, like the national debt clock, clicking away under each of us. It's amazing.

All that and I get the beautiful fall colors and peace and quiet of the Charles River and he gets stuck in traffic on the Mass Pike.:o

Fun wet ride home from DC on the WO&D. Usually don't ride in the rain, but I thought I would try it now that I have fenders. They worked great, but still got soaked from the rain. Went from East Falls Church Metro to Vienna, then back roads home. (I cheated, took the Metro from DC to East Falls Church).

Found out raincoat leaks, stayed warm most of the ride, but was starting to chill around 8 miles.

Nice ride both ways, until I got 2 blocks from home. Had an oncoming police officer flash his headlights at me, and then whoop his siren at me to pull over. I think the officer driving behind him recognized me and that's why he moved on. Go ahead, give me a ticket for being visible, rookie. Arrrgh.

ride in today was wet- but I was relatively dry. I still need a new rain jacket, though.

did some errands on the way home and rode into a blustery headwind. Then I went to the bike shop and bought $200+ worth of stuff for my bike and my wife's bike. Didn't buy a rain jacket.

Thought I'd stock up on inner tubes while I was there and came home and my rear bike tire went flat as soon as I brought it in.:rolleyes:

Was out this morning at 9am. 41f sunny. Wore jeans/leggings with shoe covers. Rainjacket/Shell, cotton gloves, thin balaclava. Was comfortable. Afternoon, 3pm, 55f sunny. Rainjacket,shorts,tights, weather was nice. Riding was nice.

Chilly here this morning - 32F when I left the house. I wore usual MTB shorts with leg warmers, base layer, long sleeve jersey and reflective vest on top. After initial warm up did fine until I got my toes wet crossing creek. Made the last 6 miles of the commute with chilly feet but otherwise a good commute.

All in all not bad for my first cold weather commute.

PS: There are deer moving around EVERYWHERE along my route and I expect to hit one eventually. Hopefully it will not injure either of us.

My first negative temp commute (-1°C) Meh - not much different than the +1 last week. No ice encountered yet (good thing too). Next time I will wear some forehead and ear protection (I forgot this morning and didn't want to go back).

Nice ride again, got caught at a few too many lights.

Wife is pushing me to buy myself a car...................

Coldest commute of the season, and first sub-freezing. 27F/-3C. No frost though. Blue/pink sky from the sunrise and a light wind that kept switching from head to tail.

I had just started out this morning and there were 3 deer standing in my neighbor's driveway. :) I stopped pedaling to see what they'd do. I got surprisingly close before two trotted across the street, hooves clicking, in front of me and into the trees, and the third turned and went the other way down the driveway.
