I decided to make a dry run at my commute yesterday- I really don't think I could ask for a better setup as I ride a dedicated path along the beach for about ten miles (the last 1/2 mile on both ends is fairly busy and street-only though).
I think I'm going to like this. :) |
A bike path with a dividing line and a shoulder? Awesome! :D
Yep, it looks like you'll have perfect riding conditions. |
Wet and cold this morning about 40* when I left the house, high today has only been 44, wind is picking up and mist is steadily falling. Might be a bit of an ugly ride home tonight. I am looking forward to a hot bath and a cold beer when I get home.

4:30am 28f very comfortable with my winter gear on. I just wore leggings over work pants, so the waist area got a little nippy, not too bad tho. Snow Sneakers and Mittens did the trick. The only thing was my rear derailluer froze up and I couldn't shift out of the gear I was in. I'll have to do some maintenance on it to fix that. Probably just needs some fresh grease inside the cable housing. Afternoon ride home was nice. 39f. Derailluer was shifting. Had the Bikepath all to myself.
Where is everyone? _________________ |
second day commuting on my new bike and the temp was great I wake up around 11:30 then ride to the tattoo shop around noon so the ride there was nice was a little chilly cause I had just woken up. the ride home at about 9pm in the dark was probably colder but it felt warmer cause im not a morning person . I have the day off tomorrow so I plan on doing a longer ride if im feeling ok the girlfriend is dog sick and im not feeling great myself. also I got to play with the bike caujse the gears were acting funny on my way home like they couldn't figure out where they wanted to go. if I don't figure it out by monday im gonna have the LBS I bought it at look at it. I hope I didn't break it in the 2 days I've had it.

41* again this morning and raining. a "waterproof" jacket from Nashbar turned out to not be so waterproof. arrived to work cold and wet this morning. Soaked through all 4 layers down to my skin. Legs are still cold. Gonna be a long day, thankfully I am here for a 10 hour day today so it gives everything time to dry out.
Will be searching forums for good cold wet weather gear. |
Nice and cool, not too cold, and practically all the snow has melted.
|
Friggin' cold, that's how.
|
went ass over
Had to ride down tram line and when tried to turn off at speed back wheel locked in the tram track As I was sliding down the road had a suureal vision of my bike 2 meters in front of me I lost a heap of skin of the shin area , thigh elbow and fingers : luckily no cars behind me so I didnt get run over as well I did have to go for a 50 meter walk however to retrieve my drink bottle from down the hill:( Minor repairs needed got a lift the last bit home with dented pride |
new workplace today and thus new commute, this time its 25km each way and a very varied ride to say the least, taking in, city, shopping streets and best of all beach roads.
I will take a few snaps on the way to work tomorrow and post for you all |
Not bad this morning. I saw a cat, and one suicidal squirrel. Temps in the mid 30Fs, but I had an annoying headwind to deal with. I just didn't have the energy for it, after 4 days of eating and drinking to excess. :o
I saw a blinking LED headlight about a quarter mile behind me on the MUP, but the rider either left the MUP, or wasn't as fast as me (unlikely today :D ). I never saw it again. |
Took the day off bike commuting today. I've been on leave since 11/16 and rode about 300 miles over the 10-day period. I was due for a break, and since it was foggy and raining when I got up this morning, I decided to drive. Hopefully will be back in the saddle tomorrow.

I'm with tarwheel today. I commuted 110 miles last week and did a spin class on Sunday which kicked my a&$, so I'm taking today off.
|
First day commuting after a week off. Rain, rain, rain. And it seemed insignificant after riding 188 miles, most of that in the rain.
|
Fargin' cold! -15C and windy when I left the house. I actually had to wear a long-sleeved shirt.
|
Warmed up here, not bad at all - incident free ride, yay. All wet on the roads still from the remaining snow/slush, but it's pretty much all clear everywhere from what I've seen.
|
Frosty! 30F. But not slippery, fortunately. 'They' keep saying it will warm up and start to rain 'tonight', been saying that for several evenings now. Still hasn't happened. Maybe tonight...
|
Too much pie over the holiday weekend. Bleh. Felt fat and slow.
|
Except for a flat nice cool ride at 34....I just hope theses idiots who water the street everyday turn it off before it actually gets cold.
|
3 celsius and light rain, thankfully there wasn't any wind or it would have been a bit unpleasant.
|
Rain. Lots and lots of rain. Not cold though, so kind of fun in a way. Traffic seemed light too, which makes for a better wet-weather ride. Only saw three other cyclists, and we all nodded to each other in a kind of 'rain riding solidarity'.
I like riding my bike! |
Had all of last week off and realized that I missed the commute most of all. Didn't disappoint today either. 61 degrees and a steady rain the whole way in. Was great to wear just a short sleeve jersey and shorts this time of year and the rain was refreshing.
Had some funny looks from people bundled up in front of bars. Looked like there was a 3-car pile up at the end of the Manhattan-bound left lane on the Brooklyn Bridge. Of course, I didn't have my camera with me. |
ok great commute on the new route, temp bordering on 30 degrees c so nice and warm as well.
Managed to average just shy of 30km/h today as well which is a great achievement considering the traffic build up on certain areas, but napean highway the speed was well over 50km/h for a huge section of it, top speed 59.8 on the flat ... GOLD |
TOASTY WARM here in Virginia this morning ... 57F when I left the house. Commute was great - I left a bit earlier that usual (4:30) and had the roads almost completely to myself. I seem to have recovered from my spin class (yikes!) on Sunday and legs felt strong.
A small amount of ground fog and pavement was wet but freddy fenders did the job! |
very..very rainy on my way to the train last night for my night shift.
Cleaner at work who does 20+ kilometers to work suggested clear plastic cleaning bags over my rain gear for really heavy rain.. Good idea! I snagged a few bags from him, he had a flat just as he was around 2k from work but fixed it here. He's been riding in for over 15 years. We did a quick estimate and calculated he's saved approx. $15,000 riding in outside of the priceless health benefits... Sweet! Cheers.. Probably snowy in Toronto today should be a fun ride in tonight :) got my cold weather gear ready. |
Nice ride in, balmy and warm, with the wind really starting to pick up. I was nearly pushed into the fence as I crossed the 14th St. bridge. Other than that, the trail was wet and leafy so I had to keep the bike as upright as possible with my 700x28 slicks still on it.

Been on assignment downtown in the city for the last couple of weeks, so have been re-acquainted with Boston traffic in all of its manic glory. Got to have lunch with my girlfriend, though, who works about ten blocks away from the client's office. Wish we could ride in together but I have to be at work at 8 and she can dawdle in at 10:30.
Today was warm and I was thinking it was a good excuse to pedal easy and just keep the sweating down. that sentiment lasted about ... oh ... five minutes ;) then I saw my first cyclist and the daily commuting time trials were back on again. |
Damp and low 30Fs. Last night I was worried because it was pouring rain and the local weather shaman said it was going to snow. The Weather Channel said rain only, and they were right.
So I had a light tailwind and interesting skies (broken white stratus under a battleship gray ceiling) with a yellow sunrise. The light was hitting various Adirondack mountain slopes. Quite pretty. |
It's so warm here, ugh! Temps in the 60Fs. I wish it would just get cold already so spring can hurry up. Hah! Lots of wind this morning, not fun.
