Holy crap Scott, quite the morning for you.. The bombsquad is really freaky to see I bet.
Rode to the east end was a bit slower than normal, but nice and uneventful. Love riding the roadie. Rode back to home on a sugar buzz as I was really tired, nice and quick ride back to the west end though - uneventful to my memory. My ride in was pretty uneventful, it rained over night so was a tad damp with patchy puddles - other than a series of nice red-light chats with a lady also riding along King, I had nothing else happen. Was happy at that, then I got to work and got **** on - aye aye aye  ;) |
Yesterday's ride home was WET. Got caught in one of the rain bands from the storm sitting off the coast. On the bright side, drivers gave me LOTS of room during the rain. I think they saw me and said, "Hey, anyone willing to ride in that s**t is capable of doing anything crazy...I'd better give him space."

I rode the Fast Bike in today and had just an awesome ride. What George Hincapie calls a No Chain Day. Might have something to do with the breeze from the south or the new Ksyriums but I would prefer to think I am just awesome. Got an email to possibly be interviewed for a local morning tv show. Now I'm starting to obsess over what bike to ride and how to dress. If we're going for new converts, it seems best to avoid the full racer look and just wear my casual Friday clothes. |

Ride the under $750 bike, that is if you have one. :P |

Chilly ride for me too - I probably could have done with full leg coverage and maybe something heavier in a mid layer. Ah well, it was invigorating!
Saw 2 Mergansers on the river (couldn't figure out what the heck I was looking at at first!) http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/id/htmsl/h1290pi.jpg - plus the usual assortment of mallard ducks and Canada geese. The songbirds were pretty quiet though - must have been a bit on the cold side for them yet. |
A pleasant 70F this morning's commute.
103F expected for my commute home, tomorrow 104F. Summer is finally begining to return. Al |
Protracted but nice. Started shuttling kids <8am, errands and meetings all am, then finally into office at noon. Sunny and warm!
|
Rocked out, didnt stop the whole time, long ride quick time, sore testes, cottonmouth, but I'm better for it.
Jorpe, over and out. |
Nice ride in, a little cool because of the wind. Should have brought a shell. I just cranked it up to 400 watts and rode on. The ride home a photographer from the local paper shadowed me to get some pictures, probably had a little trouble because I was in a hurry to go visit my wife. He was ok with it, because I had already explained it to the reporter, and he got 3 chances to get a shot. I'm off tomorrow so if they call I'll do a slow ride to make things easy. Hilarious looks from passersby watching me be paced, photographed from a car, and when the photographer got ahead he pulled over to get some shots. I actually had some cars following trying to figure me out at 1 point. Now I need a domestique.;)
Hey caloso, when will you be on if you are picked? Make sure to tell Mark S. Allen to get a haircut.:D |
Sunny and cool here in Tokyo but WINDY. It was scary. I felt like I was going to be blown over sometimes. Usually I'm going downhill a lot and it's so fun but all my momentum was killed by the wind. I'm debated if I should ride uphill into the wind going home tonight. Otherwise, a good ride.

made it just before it poured :)

Yet another warm and humid morning. It has been the trend most of this week. I am hoping to avoid any storms that might pop up this afternoon. First week on the "new" bike (old Fuji Regis) has been great, though sometimes it's hard to brake, shift and signal at the same time with my broken finger. Felt good to ride everyday this week, that doesn't happen too often :)
|
Yesterday I got home ahead of a storm. I could see things brewing to the southwest, across Lake Champlain, and got home as fast as I could. A little thunder, and some rain.
No ride this morning. It's "dime day" on the bus, so I did the 2.5 mile hike and paid a dime to ride the bus to work. :) Wife is coming in after work for some dinner so I have a cage ride home. |
Sunny; warm. Michigan State University campus is quiet now that students have left for the summer. Motorists well-behaved as was I (considering that I'm a "vehicle" too). Love my trusty Kona Smoke. Perfect for commutes. I wanna go fast I can ride my Co-motion tandem with my wifie. Start of Smart Commute here in town next week. I've got a team out of my office competing for a prize.
|
Set a new personal record - 7.08 miles in 28 minutes flat, down from 34 minutes after only 5 commutes this year!
Oh, and as an added bonus, I didn't get attacked by the over-protective geese tending their goslings on the greenway. They sure are intimidating when they hiss at you as you pass! |
Very nice commute this morning. A little more traffic because I left late, but smooth and fast ride.
CaptainTandem: Hello to a fellow Michigan commuter. I'm in Grand Rapids. |
Fun commute. 55F!
I am starting to adjust to the new bike and the completely different fit and handling. It was so warm this morning that I could have ridden in without carrying anything. However, my pump's mount is fixed to the other bike. Consequently, I had to ride with a backpack to carry my road morph. Tonight I plan on hitting a bike store for a pump just for the racing bike. Sooner or later I will forget it. I would rather leave my helmet at home than forget my pump. |
Smooth and easy ride in today. There was more traffic than I'm used to seeing on a Friday...
|
Great ride home last night. I really focused on NOT just "getting there" and just enjoyed the ride. I rarely do this since I'm always pushing myself to get a better time, etc. I enjoyed the ride much more....and still beat my best time. Funny how that works out.
|
Last night's my Hills of Heck* ride left little pain in my thighs this moring. So I took a light spin all the way in. It is so awesome when the weather finally turns and you can ride a tshirt and shorts on the way in.
*Hills of heck=33 miles of every big hill in town for a total of 3200 feet of climbing. One hill gains 500' in one mile.... I think that's just shy of 10% grade. Add on the 750' and 12 miles for the daily commute, that's almost 4,000 feet for the day. My legs are tired :) |
Ride home was into a headwind and gave me a good muscle burn on my legs, so I decided not to ride later in the evening. This allowed me to drink, and that allowed me to miss my subway stop, the last train back and the bus which meant I got home WAY too late and didn't ride in today either (plus other factors like: storing my bike at the ex's while I take my daughter for the weekend or ride the MTB and trailer-haul her back to mine - neither seemed appealing - I'll take her out tomorrow instead).
|
Finally got over that hurdle of Winter laziness and rode in today, and came to the conclusion I'm in worse shape than I thought. Ah well, that's what Advil is for.
Went to grab my water bottle and found that I had put coffee in it at some point (I do that on occasion) and then forgot about it. Oops. Two more bottles I grabbed didn't fit the holder on the bike. Rode in with a mini-thermos full of coffee... After about 5km I was REALLY wishing it was water, but oh well... Made the whole 20km here and lived to tell about it. |
Nice little ride today, but summers just around the corner it was at least 70 this morning and I sweated up some hills.
|
I've come to the conclusion that the first ride of the season *always* sucks, no matter what :)
I had an eeeeevil southeasterly headwind all the way home last night - pedalling on the downhills is never good - but this morning was much much nicer. A little colder than I thought so I had to stop and adjust layers (vest and arm warmers) but still made pretty decent time. This is 4 days out of 5 on the bike; next week I hope to do all 5 days! Plus my "kms to date" display is now over 200 :D and I'm noticing I'm not tiring nearly as quickly. (The first 2 or 3 rides in, everyone was worried about me because I was all red and took a long time to cool down; now 5 minutes after I arrive, they can't tell if I've ridden unless they see the bike). |
Mid 60's Sunny. Very dry except when I got soaked going through some sprinklers on the MUP. Today was my buddy's first commute. He's feeling it, but he did great. He's the one who planted the seed in my head to start commuting. I definitely need to get rid of the knobbies for road riding.

Hey caloso, when will you be on if you are picked? Make sure to tell Mark S. Allen to get a haircut.:D So then I headed over the American to scope out a route for a coworker who's been talking about bike commuting but is still pretty nervous about it. I tried to find a place where she could safely park her car for a split commute. Then I went up the bike trail to see if the detour is still in place for Union Pacific's toxic clean up. Had to ride up a steep gravel embankment to the top of the levee. Saw two young deer on the ARBT. Stopped to adjust my backpack and noticed that I'd ridden 10 miles with it unzipped. Luckily nothing fell out. Headed back into town along H Street. I had an encounter with one of our most dangerous species: the well-meaning but clueless driver. She was heading west on H. She noticed a van wanting to turn left onto a side street. She jammed on the brakes in the middle of the street (nearly causing the car behind her to rear end her) and started waving for the van to turn. I slowed, afraid that the van wasn't going to see me in the bike lane, the van slowed (probably confused about the whole thing) and everybody honked their horns. When I rolled up to her at the next light, I knocked on her window and said "Ma'am I know you were trying to be nice, but that was a really dangerous move back there. You put everybody at risk, including me. No, ESPECIALLY me! Please don't do that anymore." She nodded and said "I'm sorry!" |
