oh, I forgot. Just because the path was clear on they way to work, doesn't mean a maintenance crew didn't come by and trim 10 trees and pile the branches on the path while I was at work. good thing I have a decent headlight (although, I wouldn't call it more than decent).

Nice ride. Added extra 10 miles (well, 9.5 I think) to my commute, kept going ~5 miles past work. It was so effortless I really shouldn't have been surprised to turn around and find the magnitude of tailwind that had been helping me out. I came back most of the way on the middle ring (32t) just to maintain forward progress.

Windy.
Wet wonder
Road from the LES to Times Square, new job in third week, first time in soaking rain. This is my first time back to work since riding from San Fran to Illinois, and putting on the rain suit and gauntlets brought back the memories of the days of horizontal rain and twister warnings over in Kansas and Missouri.
Despite all the official warnings not to leave bike overnight in bikeroom more than 5 times in a row, there are clearly about 10 bikes that haven't been touched in 3 weeks. The rain highlighted that for me.

Windy, too damned windy. After years of study, I have come to the conclusion that wind sux much more than hills.

Slow ride in on the MTB today since my road bike is in the shop still, gotta call about it when I get home. I could feel different muscles in my legs working since my feet weren't clipped in. Still made pretty good time though considering I haven't ridden this bike in about 6 months.

Michelin Transworld City MTB tires. They're just fine in 1" of sloppy, frozen-margarita-consistency slush. On heavier packed snow, not so much.
No falls but I had to ride at a snail's pace through the one section of MUP that always seems to be the worst whenever it snows. I call it "the ice box."
Back roads up here in Vermont are slushy but I stayed in cage tracks (hey, what do you know, cages are good for something after all
) and had a pretty fun ride home. Time for a beer and some fuel intake.
P.S., The tires make a really cool tread pattern in the snow.

Nice ride in this morning, its getting back to Florida temps finally. I dont remember the temp this morning when I left the house, but it was 86F on the way home
It was pretty cold. I had a jacket in my pannier and warmer gloves, but it wasn't quite cold enough to bother with getting them out. Almost, but not quite. Also, I've had a cold but I wanted to ride anyway so I just left 15 minutes early and went slower. It was a nice ride and I wasn't all sweaty when I got to work. I kind of wish I had ridden my mountain bike with slicks instead just cause it's nice for the slow rides, ya know?

Set a record of 16.6mph over a 13.3mil run (with lots of hills and stop lights). Arrived elated sore muscles by noon. It was worth it! Took it easy in the rain on the return ride.

Today's commute was OK. A little rainy. Started pouring as soon as I got off the bike this morning. Then a little wet on the way home.
Not riding tomorrow. It's date night and we are going to a lacrosse game of all things (wife's first game, she's never been able to go).
Going to have to work on Saturday, so I think I will try a different way into work. Not a way I will go normally, since I take light rain part way to work to cool down since there is no showers at work. But a nice way home.

Frickin weather has played havok this week, I think this is only the second time I've been able to commute in
A mixture of rain and snow and freezing weather made the roads a bit to dangerous to share with the cars....but today was a bit nicer. Roads are clear, it's still around 30-32, but light winds. Even though I woke up late, it was a good way to jump start the morning

Chicago Lakefront Bike Path was chilly (temp at O'Hare is 32 degrees Fahrenheit, colder by the lake) but otherwise clear of all traffic. Strangely, the Loop at 7:30 was pretty quiet. No buses tried to cream me, so I thank the gods of gears and spokes for that. All in all, a nice 8 mile ride, I'm already looking forward to the commute home.
Happy Friday the 13th!
Happy Friday the 13th!
worked on the bike last night. winter knobs are off, slicks are on. lots of fairweather commuters out this morn, saw 3 in suburbia whereas i usually see 1 at best. forecast high of 15C
Today's ride in to work was great. I left the house a little later than normal, rode easy so I wouldn't work up much of a sweat, and still averaged 16 mph. All the people in cars behaving properly, the birds singing, and the smell of fresh mown grass put me in a really good mood on the way in to the office.
So I get to the office, head to the showers, unpack everything....uh oh. That's right. It's commando friday. 3 years of commuting, and I finally left the house without packing right. At least its Friday and I'm wearing jeans.

Slushy! Wasn't planning on riding today since it snowed overnight but seeing that the roads were fairly clear, the sun was shining and it was just above freezing, decided to go for it. My shoes got a bit wet and a snowy section or road hid some sort of crack in the road that made me go wobbly for a second, but no real issues. Should be well into the 40s for the ride home.

Calm and hovering right around 0C this morning. My legs were a little sore after riding last night, but I regained my form by the time I got to work.

It was cold this morning around low 40's F. I felt slow and sluggish, maybe the 5 days a week commute is taking its toll. This weekend will be recovery days. Unless of course its tops raining.

Good commute. One funny story:
I'm taking the right lane this morning (as usual) on a 2-each-way-plus-a-center road. A JAM in the left lane behind me lays on the horn for about a second and then passes me. As he passes, I do my usual big wave and silly-a$$ grin to let him know I'm not intimidated. I see him screaming something inside his cage, spittle flying.
2 seconds later I'm passing him at a light--I'm making a right from the RTOL lane, he's going straight and he's stuck at the red. As I pass him, I again do the big wave. This time I see him going apoplectic (he was so red I thought he was gonna stroke out) and frantically pawing at the door controls, trying to roll down the window.
Man, how tightly-strung are you if just seeing a cyclist on the road is enough to send you into this kind of frenzy? I didn't even delay him!

Crappy commute. I woke up late and had to drive in. At least traffic was good and it was quick.

Nice. And too short.
I rode the race bike to work. The first tri of the season is Sunday and I put on my homebrew aerobars last night so I wanted to get out on the open road and try out the fit. Headed down to Freeport because there are a couple of long straights that let me get down on the bars without worrying about stoplights and other riders.
Felt like I was just getting warmed up as came back into town and then had to turn towards the office.
