Got home just before the rain last night (otherwise nice sunny day). And it stopped before I hit the road this morning, so all moisture came only from below this am. Nice and cool ride in. 50 miles yesterday! Took long lunchtime ride in attempt to counteract 4 donuts from interminable am meeting.

Wow. I used to live at 120th and Colorado. Back when the dairy farm had a big pasture on 120th. The Kohls on the corner was brand new about the time I moved to Littleton. I was on 118th Ct.

My commute, which is just starting really, is a whole two roads. Corner of Kipling & Belleview, down Belleview, through Grant Ranch and to Bowles. The tanning salon I own is in the Littleton Historic District. 7 miles, downhill coming, uphill going home. Not nearly as long as YOUR commute, holy h3ll!!

I was making RECORD time on the way home last night--I actually rode 5 miles past my house just to have a tail wind to end the day. I was doing over 25mph on the flats and feeling fine when I noticed a weird bumping feeling and the POW! No gunfire, just a blowout on the rear tire. It left a huge hole in my rear tire, suspiciously like the blowout described in another thread (although I didn't find any sheetmetal screw).

I was able to boot the tire and limp a mile to the Walgreen's parking lot, where my wife just happened to be picking up a prescription. When I got home I just had to throw the tire away and put on an old racing tire I was hanging on to for just such an emergency. Off to the LBS at lunch time.

Forgot to post about the return commute yesterday. Nice stiff headwind and dead legs are not a good combo. Even with a new bike I was managing to hit a pretty pitiful average speed. However, with the interesting aero positions I was able to attain I did hit some decent speeds with a stiff headwind. That is when I was not about ready to collapse.

After breaking some speed records for inbound and homebound routes the last few ride, I took it easy this morning. Next to no leg power on the hills even after yesterday's lunch-time hill repeat ride.

Short and sweet as usual..;o)

We've had perfect weather for riding in LA this Spring then all of a sudden it's been a sweaty 95 the last two days...

MY BIKE BROKE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Popped a spoke on the freewheel side of the hub, dammit. It's an older bike with a six-speed shifter for the rear and a freewheel. I have no tools to take off the freewheel and no spare spokes. Will have to hit the bike shops for a new spoke... or a new wheel... or a new bike maybe.

Meanwhile, I had to do a 20 km return trip today, to and from one of my job sites. Of course, I could've taken the subway, but why take the subway when you have feet? So I jogged some and walked some and had a blast. Except it would've been more fun on the bike, of course. I am a terrible jogger, really.

My legs hurt now...

I was crusing along the road when I came across a few motorcylce cops running a speed trap. When I went zipping buy one of the officers yells out to me 23.

I thought it was cool that he clocked me to see how fast I was going and then told me about it.

Skipped work today. Its May Day! But am jonesing for a ride so I think I'll head out to the bar in a few minutes just so that I can have had gone out and ridden. Sweet.

The return ride was annoying. A newbie was desperate to pass. At the light he tried that STARE intimidation tactic. Who cares! Light changes and he nearly rams my front wheel trying to get ahead.

Eventually, I let him pass cuz he was getting frustrated, so he rides up to the next rider and tries to sux wind. The guy turned around twice and told him to back off...then gave up and pulled over. I passed him awhile up and he tried to draft me...like 1' off the fender. Not a place to take turns on the pulls...didn't matter he was there for free-load'n

After about a block, I pulled over so suddenly he almost rammed me a 2nd time. Gave him the 'get lost wave'...

Best rides so far, to and from work. Stupid high school kid in an old BMW decided to buzz by me. Left about 6 inches from my left arm.

Beat the rain home, always good.

New RT record today...broke 18 MPH for my average! 18.1 to be exact. I'm still pumped. I ate lunch too late in the day, and was trying to keep lunch down on the ride home - fortunately, I was successful.

some nice commutes so far this week- yesterday was the double commute-ended up with a total of 38 miles.

today just the usual 20 mile round trip but broke it up by picking up a zipcar for 2 hours to transport a bunch of stuff. If you haven't used zipcar and it's available I highly recommend it.

Today was amazing going down Commonwealth Ave. by BU. I stopped at the traffic light at the BU Bridge and was surrounded by 8 other commuting cyclists before the light changed. Between the door zone and the construction on this road it's astounding that it's so crowded but it sure was nice to not feel quite so alone on the commute.

the commuter now has about another 6000 miles on it since last year at this time and it's starting to show. It needs new jockey wheels, a new chain, new front brake blocks. It's wild to feel myself wearing out the bike!

A tougher than usual ride home yesterday. 92F with a 10-15 mph headwind too. Thankfully it wasn't very humid so just had to struggle with the wind, but no worries about overheating. The ride in this AM was very pleasant. The setting full moon looked awsome!! A giant orange ball hanging over the horizon...looked like a giant glowing basketball. As I was stopped at a stoplight a black pickup truck pulled up next to me. The driver, a 50ish man, rolled down his window and said "good way to save some gas". I said yah, I get about 30 miles to the apple. He chuckled as the light changed and he drove off. Nice to have a positive interaction with a motorist for a change.

Well I am back on my MTB this week despite my broken finger, that won't stop me from riding. I am getting sick of my mtb though, it's heavy and slow and I just want my road bike back. My road bike is still going through the warranty process for a broken frame, I have to call today and get an update. The ride this morning was a bit warm, but there was a breeze so it wasn't too bad. Gonna be in the 90s again this afternoon, nice and hot for the ride home.

First day with the trailer in tow, pulling 25 pounds of "work", 14 hour work day, before you add the ride time. Some rain riding home in the dark, experienced some chain problems on the way home which added to the challenge. Found cars to be seemingly much less tolerant of bikes at night...........maybe they don't expect us, maybe they don't see us, despite the lights but in any event, a much less comfortable ride going home last night. I'm up this morning for the ride back to work in rain and wind..............I'm wondering about this old man's recovery time from yesterday...............should be an interesting ride today.........another 14 hour day but at least I don't have to pull extra weight.

Whoo, nice morning. It was a bit chilly at the start, but once I got going it was nice and relaxing. Considering how busy work was scheduled to be today, I'm glad I got the nice start to the day and I'm going to end it with a relaxing ride home.

Not a bad ride in. Haven't commuted since last Thursday, felt like I needed some recovery. I tried to take it easy but found myself pushing it a little too hard a few times. Temps were cool, 42 but I refuse to don the winter pants again until fall so it was a little bit of a chilly start. I did get to draft a car at ~30mph for about a 1/4 mile today, that was cool. No shoulder, construction zone, and slow moving traffic so I took a place in line at the light and kept it until there was no oncoming traffic and cars could "safely" pass. By then the cars in front of me were north of 35mph so I was starting to slow the cars behind me a bit. Almost got hooked at a gas station, SUV passed me obviously slowing for the station's driveway. I saw it coming so I had slowed enough where he could have made the turn without hitting me (Yay for me! ) but he waited until I passed to make the turn.

Lost a cleat screw for my look keo cleat on one of my sidis due to me not tightening it correctly after adjusting. No biggie due to the fact that I need to switch to a different cleat with more float. My splayed foot feels like it is being twisted inward with only 4.5 degrees of float. Took the touring bike.
What a gorgeous morning. 50F and my allergies have quieted down. Just a blast.
I think I like the 700X23 gatorskins on my touring bike better than the 700X23 specialized mondos on the tarmac. Just found my possible first upgrade. Maybe a new set of red tires.
That and a 0 setback seatpost for both bikes.

Not too shabby! I had a very fast ride in, and encountered many cyclists on the way. I also had a great mtn bike ride last night. W00+!

Finally remembered to give the tyres some more air last night, so I had a harder ride this morning.

Left at a decent time for once this morning, lots more bikes around. As I came down the bridge onto the martin goodman path, a guy on a roadie passed, so I used him to (try) and keep pace. I couldn't keep up with him properly after a bit, but making that extra effort gave me a new PB time of 15:12 this morning.

I took note of the two streetcar numbers I saw heading in my direction before I left the roads for the path. The first one beat me to King/Strachan, but I caught it up and passed. Means that I would probably lose that race unless I really hoof it (or take the road route).

tons of people out there last night and today. The only bummer about the warmer weather is the large congregation of crackheads on the east side of downtown on the bike paths. Most of them are too out of it to get the hell out of the way.
