I was c-c-c-cold last night, should not have been for just 60F, my metabolism must be shifting for the summer... Anyway 50F this morning was perfect. Roads damp but no rain, just sun. Trailered Thing 2 to daycare, worked my way back to MUP I take from home (connected ~.75 miles above home), then onto work as usual. Well, stop at Office Depot for Li AAAs.

pinkrobe 06-11-07 09:43 AM

Pretty decent ride in today - no drama, but lots of speed. :)

caloso 06-11-07 09:55 AM

Crappy. The driver of a POS Buick apparently didn't think I belonged in the lane. She rode up to my wheel and honked. I gave her The Look and kept pedaling. She laid on the horn for the next couple of blocks and for a moment I thought of just slowing to a trackstand but I know the timing on the lights in that stretch and knew that if I kept the pace I'd make all the lights. Screw her. I'm not riding in the door zone just because she's late. It's especially irksome because that stretch is a three-lane one-way boulevard and the middle and left lanes were clear. Just go around!

Then about a mile further, the driver of a POS Honda tried to occupy the same space that I was traveling in. This one appeared to be clueless and inattentive rather than malicious. Unfortunately, I was still hot from the first JAM and I yelled a bad word at her.

Still and all, I arrived at work on time and in one piece. And that's all that really counts.

Makes you almost wish it was cold out again so these fools would go back inside.

I have one remaining cycling goal for this year, to ride to and from work the entire way each day one week. Today is day one. I should have around 300 miles for this week when I finish friday. Heck, with a century the sun before last I had 340. Me like miles. Someday I will hit 400 in one week.
Nice and warm this morning...60F

Uneventful, but nice and cool air. My bike was fullly loaded, so it was pretty slow going. The ride home is going to suck being fully loaded and taking 2 major hills and 2 minor ones plus the heat. *sigh*

Yep, cycling got so much easier for me when I quit drinking.

kafkaesque 06-11-07 10:22 AM

Either I am getting stronger or the hills are getting flatter.

Great weather this morning, nice and cool.

mtnwalker 06-11-07 10:44 AM

No ride today. After some mountain biking yesterday to try and get rid of a queasy feeling in my stomach that turned out to be a virus, my daughter got sick also but worse. So I have to stay home today and watch her. :( I was hoping to ride my fast bike today too.

Wife is an alchoholic, but now sober which pretty means I, too, am now sober. *sigh*.

Itsjustb 06-11-07 11:24 AM

Fast but uneventful this morning. I loved not having wind.

Ditto to both those comments:)
I had a suicidal gopher zig-zag about three times directly under my front wheel!
It looked like the little bugger jumped through the spokes!
Nevertheless, it was a nice ride.

Must be the season, I did a dance with multiple woodchucks in 6 miles. Like Costanza said, I thought we had a deal! C'mon little rodents, help me out here.

Armadillo elites paid off this morning. Picked up a huge nail. I was late for class already so i yanked it out, to my surprise i didnt hear air or anything(to much traffic anyway). the nail was in the tread, im talking IN the tread.

Wow, caloso... Sucks about the morons! Sometimes I think cyclists should be allowed to carry vapourizers and make JAMs disappear... Maybe then we'd see some respect for cyclists on the road.

Mandown 06-11-07 05:17 PM

Beautiful morning...coming home though was a different story. Lost front tube and got soaked on the walk home. Still happy that I wasn't in a car.

vrkelley 06-11-07 05:37 PM

52 and Blustery. Riding partner bailed due to rain...He doesn't have the gear

mwrobe1 06-11-07 06:58 PM

By Chicago standard's, it was a hot day, mid 80's and a moderate headwind.
I can't carpool tomorrow, so I'll be doing a full commute...a 35 mile roundtrip.

manual_overide 06-11-07 08:17 PM

a very nice day here. lower 80's, low humidity, but a bit of a headwind coming home. The ride in was quite pleasant, and pretty much the whole ride home was too, save for the idiot in the jeep who buzzed me and the jerk kids in the lumina who tried to throw water on me. they completely missed and i gave them the "WTF" hands in the air and look. they just sped off... turds. I wanted to unload my water bottle inside their car. First time I've ever had anything thrown at me. Of course I was climbing a major hill and the water would have felt nice, but still...

It's nice that Mississauga has done a lot of these bike paths all over their city but you can tell that it wasn't really thoroughly thought out before hand. Just one look at the map and you'll see how a lot of it is just "patchwork" and not a real network.

I live in Whitby and they've done a good job connecting the paths especially around the lake. I can go from Pickering to the far end of Oshawa on the lakeshore trail and even in town i notice they have many bike lanes, even really old ones.. I think the east end (Ajax/Whitby/Oshaw) has a history of cycling wasn't there some big race back in the 1920's from Ajax or Whitby along Kingston Rd. into Toronto?

vtjim 06-12-07 06:03 AM

Low 60Fs, calm wind, sunny. Kind of humid (83%) but not too bad. I reeled in 6 other cyclists. That might be a morning record. Passed all but one, as I was about to exit the MUP.

Also saw a family of geese swimming in Lake Champlain. 2 adults, and 4 or 5 goslings. So cute. :o The adults were honking at me.

mwrobe1 06-12-07 06:31 AM

WOO HOO!

Left later than I wanted to, but I didn't wuss out. Went the whole way (18.16 miles) in 1:10:12!

Reached 27mph down a really nice decline...wee!

High 60's, clear and sunny to give way to low 80's this afternoon.

Can't wait for the ride home.

Flimflam 06-12-07 07:25 AM

Been on the MTB since Saturday as my roadie back wheel needs truing and a couple spokes replacing. Off work yesterday meant a couple trips to the doctors and whatever, then ride out east and back so I got some miles in.

Had a good ride in, quite a few bikes out on the lakeshore trail and on King St. W, nothing crazy to report - the highlight was waiting for not one, but two GO Trains to pass on Strachan.

Spreggy 06-12-07 07:27 AM

Went the whole way (18.16 miles)
Now that's some serious commuting distance! My hat's off to ya.

This morning was just perfect, a day when plans coming together conspired with perfect weather and beautiful scenery.

New bike, new routine of riding 4 mile, very hilly route to the YMCA for some free weights, then back on the bike for three and a half more miles into the office.

Just me pedaling thru the midlife freak-out. :) What a great morning.

pinkrobe 06-12-07 08:22 AM

Not too shabby today - light showers, but cool enough that I needed to wear a jacket, which also kept me dry. Very fast as well...

Buglady 06-12-07 08:40 AM

Nice ride this morning :) - I took yesterday off after my lots-o-miles weekend just to be safe. Took the Norco Tank today and had some fun going through a construction zone and some puddles (closest I'll get to a MTB outing for a while!).
