riding home on Comm Ave I found a wallet containing a considerable amount of cash. Fortunately, the ID was current and I was able to track down the owner. First phone call was the right house but the child who answered didn't quite get the concept but after a few tries at other numbers I finally figured out that I'd had it right the first time. Turns out the wallet belonged to another cycle commuter.
Over the years I'd say this is about my fifth found wallet on bike rides. Only had one that I couldn't locate the owner of and in that case I threw the wallet in a mailbox as is- let someone else figure it out- it only had $7 in it. Other than that a wet, chilly and remarkably uneventful commute. |

Me? What commute? We got about a half inch of soggy wet snow over night. Not really a problem, and I was going to ride anyway. I packed up my trunk bag, and then I thought, "Gee, my front tire somehow looks skinny." I felt it. Flat! Several variations on 4-letter words later, I'd changed into work clothes and a coat, and speed-hiked 2.5 miles to the bus instead. Take care of the flat later. This is one of the two new Michelin Transworlds I mounted on Monday evening. I'm hoping I damaged the tube, and that this isn't indicative of a problem with the tire itself. :( |
Today will be a little cooler than it's been lately. :o
Tuesday I wore sandals, jersey, and bibs to work and stopped at a park a few blocks from the bike shop and relaxed in the warm sun for about 20 minutes. The temp was about 75F (24C). Today I probably be trying to find all the sunny spots on the road so I can stay warm. The high temp is only going to be ~58F (14C). I was just getting used to the warm temps. I'm off tomorrow and it's supposed to be even cooler. :( Good thing I didn't pack away the arm warmers and knee warmers. |
Cooler and windy this morning, temps in the upper 40s, which is a big change from the 85 high yesterday. Had a guy in a car yell something at me as he drove by me but I had no idea what he said, nor did I really care. Last night on the way home I had to avoid the caterpillars, I must have seen about 10 of them on the roads.

A bit chilly today- a reminder of all the dark cold days this winter...
|
Really quiet on the ride in today. One of the feeder roads on my route was blocked off, so traffic volume was 1/4 of normal. So nice... Oh, and I woke up with a double eye infection. Highly contagious FTW!
|
Damn, some of you commuters have some NICE temps, I rode in against a 15km/h wind and a -12c temp. Spring where are you? The warmest in my area so far this spring was +7c (45f).
|
52F this morning. I think I overdressed cause I overheated. I probably could have rode in just my shorts and a jersey. Anyways, hardly any traffic around 6:30am so the commute was uneventful. I'm still looking for my first wallet on the road.

45F this morning and not a cloud in the sky. Absolutely beautiful. Not even much wind either.
The city swept about a 1/2 mile stretch of road that I had requested be cleaned as well. Lite traffic, clean roads and warm sun. What else could I ask for? There is something about the smell of a flowering cherry or plum that puts a smile on my face. Supposed to be 75F this afternoon, I'm glad I dressed lightly. :) |
As luckysnafu reported, colder here today than recently. And windier--fought a headwind for about a mile. I'm hoping the wind stays in that direction, as it would mean a nice tailwind for the part of my commute home I dread the most. :)
Got several honks today. Unfortunately the wind prevented my from catching the guy I most wanted to. I had taken the right lane on a 2-lane-each-way road. This JAM passed me in the left lane (as he should) yet still felt the need to honk AND give me the "Get Over!" gesture. The woman in the passenger seat was clearly wishing she wasn't in the car with him during his outburst. |
Too short.
|
Beautiful morning. Supposed to hit 60s today, 70s tomorrow! Very close to time to take the headlight off for the summer too.
|
Ride home last night was into a nasty freezing headwind. It was worse b/c I was late getting home and trying to rush.
This morning: low 20s, still windy making for a nice tailwind again, and for a change sunny and beautiful. Part of my commute is on a lakefront path. The cold, windy conditions of the past few days have created wild icicles and ice curtain shapes on the trees rocks and brush on the lake shore, from all the waves and spray. The sun reflecting off the choppy water and shining through the icicles created an amazing effect this morning. Wished I had my camera - maybe tomorrow morning. Forecast is for continued cold, wind and sun. Taking a different route home tonight: stopping by the home of a craigslist seller who is clearing out a bunch of old bike gear. |
This is my first report, and 14th day commuting.
It was a little cooler this morning then the last week or so. But I am starting to get some sun light before I get to work (7am). My legs were a little sore because I got my first 20 mile day in yesterday. Other then that, it was "just another day" |
BIG headwind all the way in = tough! got home fast though!!
|
Damn!.. Winters back!
Great tailwind on the way to the train station...really suck headwind on the way back. Winter gloves & skull cap are back on.. :( This can't last long..it's April for Gosh Sakes! Cheers! |
Ok guys rightly or wrongly I have decieded to do it.
I have started a forum of my own, although this forum is AWESOME, i'm finding it a bit slow. I have started a new one that has no ads, no manufactuers attachment and hopefully should load very fast. Covering commuting, mtb, touring, road cycling and everything in between. The address is http://bikeriders.info/forum/ would be awesome to see you here thanks craig |
my back tire was very low on air on the way in and I thought maybe I had a slow leak. Finally made it to my destination, locked the bike and came out later and it had lost no more air than when I left it so I pumped it up, went to my next destination and it was holding fine for the ride home.
cold and windy. my body is not liking the switch back to winter. strange... I feel like a crocus that got a load of snow dropped on it just as it bloomed.- did I just imply I'm a delicate flower? oh, man  |

Mid 20Fs with a crosswind. Overcast. Some patches of ice in the usual (always-shaded) section, so I had to slow down and be careful with the summer tires. No problems.
As reported yesterday, I had a flat tire. Last night I pulled it and found a tiny shard of glass had gone right through the thickest part of the tread, dead center, and barely pierced the tube. I cleaned it up, patched it, and put it back on. Looks like it's holding air okay today. How come I can ride for 3 years on 27x1&1/4 road tires and never get a flat, but I get a flat 2 days after mounting thicker, wider, beefy tires. |
Freezing this morning, wind in my face the whole way, and my left contact lens decided to slide all over my eyeball, making things a little hairier than they needed to be...
|
yesterday was cold and gusty... makes me feel nasty, brutish, and short. My knee started hurting on the way home, so I took the train in today... took about the same time... I saw a commuter flying along on the MUP from the train window, made me wish I'd ridden in today.
|
Chilly but quiet. Good Friday; it seemed like traffic was about 1/3rd of normal.
My wife bought me a massage at a day spa and I had the massage last night. I feel both better and worse. I'm much looser than before, but looser also means I can now feel all the lactic acid I'd built up in my shoulders and neck. Made riding this morning hurt much more than usual. |
This week three different coworkers have said "Have you started riding your bike to work again?"
Again?!? |
pushing but not at 50F when I left this am, spring is springing! Yesterday was supposed to hit 60s, got reasonably into the 70s, today is supposed to hit 70s, wait and see where it tops out I guess.
I spun in the whole way, too, that was fun. <50 gear-inches all the way except for two 30+mph downhills. Cost me 6 min over an hour-ish (58 min yesterday, 64 today). Bandana not dripping this morning, however. |
