Stiff headwind the whole way in this morning - Added a good 20-25 minutes to my ride (in part because I missed the last bus and had to take the back route and carry the bike up 1/2 mile of steep dirt path). Now I'm sitting in my office watching low dark clouds race across the sky - no wonder that ride felt like work! Driving home this afternoon, alas, so I don't get the fun of a tailwind on the way home! :(

Great ride again today. Last night I had (another) pair of guys in a pickup try to tell me bikes aren't allowed to take the lane (or something like that--you know what I mean). I told them otherwise. ;)
I'm on vacation all next week. Good luck and safe rides to everyone out there! Talk to you when I return. |
Great ride home last night. Left late, so traffic was light. I had had a crap day, so it was great to take out some aggro on the ride. Absolutely flew home. Most of the lights were green. I could have kept riding for another hour!
In other news, I have destroyed another bell. The pinger thing broke off (again). I'm going to have to get another one, this time of a more robust design... |
Today was a "pip"... Jumped on the wrong trolley line, by the time I knew I had made a mistake I had missed my connection with the Coaster train. Jumped on a bus (alternate route) to Escondido where it was raining buckets with a 20-30 mph wind.
Wife had to rescue me with a ........ car! I shuttered with each stroke of the engine. |
Hello there!
I haven't posted in a while but I have been reading the forum posts. I normally bike commute about 3 days a week (nothing out of the ordinary so this is why I haven't posted); this week was the first in quite a while where I commuted every single day. At the rate the price of gas is going I think bike commuting will be my preferred way of transportation barring a severe thunderstorm or snowstorm. Keep pedaling. G.A. |
Ride this morning was slow because I was tired after only getting about 5 hours of sleep. I ate like crap pretty much most of the day including my first soda and candy bar in a long time. I took about an hour nap and really rocked the way home. My normal average is about 13.5mph and I rode home at 15.65mph...
|
I was flying today, going and coming. Dunno what's up. I commute year-round so it's hard to think of myself as getting conditioned as spring progresses. I think there's just a difference when it's warmer and I'm not wearing much clothes (shorts & t-shirt).
|
We're in our 7th straight day of rain, and I'm almost getting used to it. The ride in isn't all that busy, but there are still *******s out there.
|
I am having a difficult time still convincing myself "if it isn't raining, it isn't training". On the plus side, the paths are empty so I can cruise along!
A Canada Goose family was coming off the river with one parent out front, one out back, and a gaggle of little yellow goslings across the bike path. I veered around behind, but tail end charlie was still miffed and chased me flapping and hissing. I rode off laughing - memorable! |
First commute in over a week. Beautiful morning with very light winds and slightly cool. Passed 2 other bike commuters on my way out of the city. Then in a rural area, i saw my converted coworker about 500m ahead of me. I caught up abit just enough to get a great view as a big dog chased him. Luckily he tired the dog out because he didn't give chase as i rode by. The dog was big too, like a newfie or something.

first commute today!
only 7.5kms, but cruised and got there in 30 minutes. cant wait for the ride home now (im going to be stuffed.) |
The ride in was quicker than usual; direct route, good pace. I had to be in early.
The ride home was awesome. It was cold and rainy and sloppy and just plain fun. I saw a deer with little fuzzy antlers, but he didn't like the fact that I wanted to take his picture. He bounded off before I could get a good shot. I thought I had gotten a picture of his little deer butt, but all I got was a blur. |
Tomorrow I am going on my first commute! My order from Nashbar came in this weekend and my bike is ready to go. They did however send the wrong size tires, but they are rectifying the situation. My current tires are actually not too bad. My rear tire has one spot on the sidewall that I'm going to keep an eye on. If I have to I'll use the "PowerBar wrapper trick".
I'll be doing 14 miles round trip. I've got my route to work all set, but I think I may experiment with my route home, because they way it is right now, half of my commute home would be on a very congested road with lots of construction traffic. I'm so excited, can;t wait for tomorrow! I'm going to take some pics along my route and Post them tomorrow! Thanks to everybody for all the help and encouragement! |

My ride today was like this thread: Sticky. :p 60F/16C and humidity in the 80% range. I had a 16oz can of Monster in my trunk bag's bottle holder and it was all wet when I got to work. Condensation. I saw a few cyclists on the MUP. Also, a pileated woodpecker landed on the grass right next to the MUP and didn't move until I was next to it. Beautiful bird. Good ride this morning, my butt was a little sore from all the riding I did over the long weekend. Rode about 40 miles on Saturday with my stepbrother and I did at least 30 miles yesterday. It felt really good to be on the route again this morning and it was pretty warm, a possible thunder shower later but I am not too concerned about it.
I was amazed that I could take the fixie off road too, my buddy suggested we take a shortcut through a trail running along some powerlines and I managed to power my way through, I can't wait to put some bigger tires on so I can really hit some trails. Feels good to have pedaled some distance |
Fastest commute ever due to a wind assist. Giant waves crashing over the seawall, flooding the trail at points.

Very warm here in NC, with temps in the mid-60s F during my morning commute at 6:30 am. The reason for the warmth was the stiff SW breeze, which I rode into all the way to work. It felt nice even though it slowed me down. I was able to wear just a jersey and shorts today, the first time in months I haven't needed a vest, arm/leg warmers or tights on my morning commute.
Had a close call riding through my neighborhood from someone backing out of their driveway. I didn't see them because there were two vehicles in the driveway, and a van or SUV was blocking my view of the Jeep that was backing out. I didn't see it until it almost backed into me. In the past year of commuting, I've only had two near collisions with cars -- and in both cases it was people backing their cars out of driveways early in the morning. |
Cars blocking other cars and almost causing an accident, too many cars everywhere.
I rode my bike in my hometown and it seems people drive the same there as they do around here, riding on the 55 mph roads was a little scary too. |
Good ride. Warm and somewhat humid, though still very pleasant compared to what it will be like for the Summer. First sleeveless commute of the year.....already got the farmer tan from wearing sleeves while riding, so will be looking a bit goofy (goofier) until the shoulders tan up a bit.
|
Nice one today. New route (thru U of Texas campus), really fast, almost no cars.
Got to work and it's Breakfast Taco Tuesday. Now... if you don't live in Texas and don't know what Breakfast Tacos are... get on down here and PM me and I'll show you! You won't be disappointed... |
Mid 70s and humid. I'd better just get used to it because it's not getting any better any time soon. But I picked up a gorgeous '87 Stumpjumper over the weekend and rode that in. I'm thinking of making it my full time commuter.

Short-only biked w/ 6 yr old to his school. I was going to bike into work, then ride home to meet repair guy at lunchtime, but something came up so I drove in after biking w/ 6 yr old, will drive home, hope to bike back to work in the pm though. Some pleasant mist out this am. And yeah definitely rocking the bike glove tan.

Nice ride in: 65 degrees & partly cloudy. +1 on the farmer tan. I forgot the sunblock while running errands with the kids this weekend - now I have farmer feet!
Tomorrow its supposed to be a balmy -6 in the morning. |
nice ride in this morning - although I had my shoes with me and a very big lunch so I was a little heavier than normal.
have recently tried switching from clipless to using toe clips with some Merrell watershoes I have, but I don't think I am liking it. Too difficult getting into the toe clips when starting out - they tend to fall forward and it takes a bit to get my toes into them. I may go back to clipless and get some sandals (Keen maybe). I like my feet to be FREEEEE!!!! |
Felt fat and slow. My legs hurt. My back hurt. My sitbones hurt.
And I'm so glad I didn't drive. |
A little chilly, but NO RAIN!!!!! Woot! I'm going for a road ride after work for sure.
