It's the same in the motorcycle world. If there's even a 10% chance of rain eight hours from now there will be 90% less "bikers" on the road.

They only pull out their toys when it's not too cold, and not too hot and there can't be any chance of rain

Back on topic, I had a great ride this morning. Took the "car route" which means I rode exactly the same way as I used to drive. 24 minutes. It sure is quicker, by about 8-10 minutes at that. Very unscenic though - just a few straights interrupted by a small downhill winding road through the forest (I like that one).

I do need to get better lighting though since at 40kph it's hard to spot glass or dead skunks in the bike lane.

Broke out the arm and leg warmers, long-fingered gloves, and wicking t-shirt for the first time since last spring. It wasn't really that cold (low 50s) but about 25 degrees colder than it has been in the mornings for some time. I wasn't overdressed, however, as my jersey and t-shirt were hardly sweaty at all by the time I got to work. The hot shower felt great. The ride home should be beautiful, with highs in the 70s this afternoon.

Took it easy this morning after a long and punishing ride yesterday with my friends. Rode 73 miles, my longest of the year, over a hilly route. What made it difficult was the wind. We fought the wind for the first 40 miles but had a nice tailwind on the return. There's always something weatherwise, isn't there? Two weeks ago, I was griping about the oppressive heat. It finally cools off, and now I'm whining about the wind. Is it ever perfect?

I thought I dressed fine for 50 degrees, but I froze the whole way!

Absolutely peachy. Cool, clear and windy. Too bad the ride had to end when I got to the office, I could have kept riding all morning. Two years ago, I never imagined 25 miles wouldn't seem long enough.

Nothing to note here, except the days if t-shirts and shorts are getting futhrer apart. This morning was borderline but I was able to get by with just a t-shirt and shorts. The hill out from the house is brisk, but most of the rest is all uphill anyways.

Going to have to mount the light one of these mornings... I'ts closer and closer every day.

Remember me?...well I'm still commuting. I changed jobs twice since April and actually had to give up commuting for a while; a very miserable time indeed. I never knew how much I enjoy cycling until I couldn't.

Anywho, I'm still commuting, except I go West now (Brighton-Waltham) instead of East (Brighton-Cambridge) and it's nearly 9miles instead of 3.5. The commutes gotten a bit more hectic since school has started, but still a nice commute once I got rolling.

Drizzly and a bit cool this morning, but not bad. I'm thinking that I need to start using a light in the morning, especially on days like this. My wife is getting worried, and we definitely aren't being seen as well by drivers. I got my HID back from a friend who was thinking about using it for a 7-day/24-hour relay event, but he won't need it. My wife's old BLT will have to come out of retirement until we can find a replacement. MEC has the Princeton Tec Singletrack 2 for $254, but they're out of stock. We can order a Dinotte 200 for about the same money, but it will take a month to get here.

Average ride today. 40F degrees. Shorts and a jacket. Real nice weather.

I've got a killer case of poison ivy all over my calves. I went to the doc this morning and she's nuking me with prednisone to get rid of it. This might be TMI but I've got this bad patch of weepy blisters on my inner right knee and the action of pedaling was compressing the skin and it was, um, draining down my leg and looking really disgusting. I had to clean it up when I got to work.

Now I'm doped up on steroids!

A little cool this am... dipped below 40 deg F. My ears need to get used to it!

Though it wasn't too cool this morning, today is my first commute back in trousers. I donned the fleece pants with zippered ankles, and ended up having to hike them up to keep cool - but it's a sign of change. Good ride in, nothing to report I don't think - not much usually happens in 3 miles

Nice and cool, although a bit breezy. It's been an unusually cool summer and it doesn't look like there'll be any last-gasp heat wave that we typically get in September.

I took the long way in: 26 miles rather than 4. A nice way to start the week.

It was cool enough this morning that I actually had to start the first few minutes with a wind breaker on. Still wearing shorts though.

Kind of annoying with 30 degree temperature differentials between my morning and evening commute. I can either freeze in the morning in shorts or overheat in the evening in long sleeves.

Raining on the way in, so I took it slow. Forgot some stuff and had to go back for lunch, by which time it had worked up to a solid downpour. Typhoon Wipha is headed our way -- assuming the office is still open tomorrow, I look forward to adding "typhoon" to the list of ridiculous conditions I've commuted in

Or do what I (and probably others) do - bring shorts in the panniers with you to wear on your way home.

Nice ride yesterday. Chain skipped on me when starting from a stop. Second time now wonder why?

Definitely fall is coming. Getting cold in the mornings

Low 40s. This time I just went with long sleeves and shorts. Almost whacked a squirrel. The stupid thing ran right out from the trees and my front tire obstructed my view of it as it scampered across my path. Saw some other riders out. Passed a couple of 'em. The rest were going the other way. One woman looked like she was riding in subzero weather.

First flat today on the commute, and it had to be right in the middle of my commute as well. So I'm only about 3 miles from home and 3 from work, but that could get to be a long walk.

I sure am glad I came here and took all the recommendations to have a spare tube and few tools in a bag!

This morning I rode my 1st commute ever. There was good & bad.

I have a small 3 mile commute in. I'll do a bit larger 4 mile route home to avoid a busy intersection.
The commute in was real nice. Probably about 45F & sunny. I got anxious & made a wrong turn too early, but turned around and all was good.

The bad was: when I arrived, I rested my bike against the building at the loading dock. Rang the loading dock buzzer & nobody answered. I went around to the front enterance and through to the loading dock to get my bike and bring it in. When I opened the door, the door clipped my tire and knocked my bike down shattering my mirror. 8^(
When I came in I realized that (although I brought with me my keys to my office) I forgot my closet keys with my shirt, socks & shoes. Thankfully I rode in w/ my jeans in my messenger bag, so I didn't have to wear my biking knickers all day. But I'll be wearing my Hi-Viz shirt, and MTB shoes all day.

Hopin' for a good ride home!

.3 miles? Why bother with a bike?

A lot of coasting today, since a few lights turned red while I was a ways off and I know I can coast and still get there for the next green. A good ride overall, if a bit chilly (40F). Wore full gloves for the first time this season.

Man it's been ages since I posted what my commute was like.
It's starting to look like we're getting one last 'hurrah' of summer here. I was able to pull off shorts and Tshirt this morning, but yesterday I had to wear a jacket in the morning. It's been a rough couple of weeks as I've been recovering from a shoulder injury and haven't been able to bike into work as much :/ (stupid trees jumping out at me while mountain biking).
Soon I'll have to hang up the roadie and break out the commuter, with fenders lights and all.

Lost another front spoke last night after nearly killing myself running into a rain-filled pot-hole last week. Spent half-an hour and 95 bucks at the bike shop last night. NOT my idea of an efficient commute. Of course, now I have matching red-stripe tires and my front wheel doesn't wobble. I think I'm going to have to spring for those Mavic Speed City's pretty soon. That's 7 busted spokes on this set of hoops since January.

Fantastic. This morning I was over 10F cooler than it has been at 71F. Going home yesterday was 95F also 10F cooler than it was Friday and 15F cooler than it has been for many months. Time to break out the long sleeves, fall is here!

Going in this morning I was riding in center of lane on a very low traffic road, a bike lane to my right, parking spaces further right. A wrong way riding kid came flying out of a side street making a left turn right into the BL adjacent to me. Would have been a head on crash if I was not already in the primary lane. The kid had no idea I was there and had a full face of low sun.

Great morning! Started out at 48 degrees - put on the arm warmers, knee warmers and skull cap, once the sun came out started peeling layers as needed. Took a bee in the mouth, that's always fun I quickly spit it out then waited for that numb feeling to hit my tongue.
