How was the commute today?
#2151
What no one commute today? Well my commute was about average --overcast and a bit chilly, but thankfully the headwind was low. Yesterday there was actually no wind, and since I managed to leave home a few minutes early I added a few miles to the ride. Then in the ride home I was treated with a light tailwind. That made me happy enough to add a few more miles to the ride. So not bad for the end of the week.
Looks like the PNW spring weather is keeping the rain mostly at night -perhaps some quality weekend riding will be had?

Had a nice ride into work the other day, however the ride home was an entirely different story. The winds picked up midday in Buffalo to about 40mph. And obviously, I had to bike right into that for at least 2-3 miles on my way home. I felt like I was going a foot a minute with the gust trying their best to sned me back to work.

Two flats halfway in to work. Had to walk to the bus stop as my patch kit was not in the seat wedge. Bummer of a way to start the day! At least there is the ride home though!

I don't get this weather. Training ride before work canceled again due to rain. Slept in a bit and rode straight in to work.
These clouds seem to know when I'm commuting because it will be nice and dry all day and then start pouring at 7:30am and 5:30pm!

Speaking of rain, prior to this morniing's departure, I checked the radar on the net, no rain in the vicinity. Rode about 3 blocks, started getting wet, had to stop and put on my jacket. I guess it was stealth (radar evading) rain. Rest of the ride was uneventful, but fulfilling, temp of +10 C, slight cross wind. Supposed to be +3 with chance of snow for the ride home. It's been a whole 2 weeks since we've had snow, I guess we're overdue!

A little cool on the ride in this morning but the sun is shining (we didn't see it once last week) and it's warmed up beautifully... I think I'll take the long way home.

I'm back into full swing commuting... The mornings are 50 F and the only thing I can even start to complain about is the wind. 125 miles last week feels good to the sound of dissapearing winter love handles. I get to work on time more often than driving and I'm way more alert and happy. I lost a bolt to my aerobar this morning... so trip to the hardware store on the ride home. I think I'll switch to riding my cro-mo instead of the carbon. I don't really need the speed for a daily commute? And It will feel that much faster on the weekend rec rides

Beautiful morning. Cold for late April in these parts (47F at 6:10am) so I wore polypro under my jersey and tights under my shorts. Many wonderful sights today along the river path: steam rising from puddles as the sun hits them; a crane standing in the shallows looking for frogs; a duck asleep in the dead center of the path as bike commuters and runners pass by; a young mule deer buck with velvety antlers.
And the best sight of all (to me) my heartrate monitor reading 160 bpm @ 20 mph!

Well, a week of freezing rain and other obstacles foiled my commuting plans, but today I got a new start. You couldn't ask for a sweeter ride in--the sun was shining, and a tailwind kept me on the biggest chainring. The grass is starting to turn green.
The wind had mostly died by the time I went home, but it was rather cold, and I regretted not bringing my long-sleeved sweatshirt. The power lines must have been contracting, almost the entire way I heard a high-pitched noise coming from overhead.
Due to the fact that a co-worker had told me she could barely see me when she drove up behind me one night, I've added a second blinky and a 2-inch-wide reflective strip wrapped all around my rear pannier.
The 5-LED Cateye is proving very satisfactory--today I must have had it at the perfect angle, because it was lighting up the road nicely, and yet everyone dimmed their brights coming from the opposite way. (One person even flashed their brights in what I think was meant to convey, "Hey, one of your headlights is out!")
It was a great day, and I'm thawing out now.

Very nice commute in this morning. Sunny and bright, no wind. Went in by the longest route I could think of. I even managed to set a new record for my average Speed of 18.1 mph

Another incredible sight on my ride in from the bike path: I hear a rushing sound behind and above my head. A hawk dives over the path, not more than 5 feet above me, and drops into the weeds beside the path to pull out a rodent breakfast.
Boy, you don't see scenes like that on I-5!

First commuting day this week (not so bad as I had to drive in yesterday so I could leave early for a Mariners game) and it was cold and damp. Only a few sprinkles in the actual air but plenty on the ground. Once again the fenders prove to be the best commuting investment ever. Only a week till my 5 day mini tour of the San Juan islands --hope both the weather and my stamina improve.

A grey week, mostly in the 40's/5-10C, but I'm humming along on my hybrid. So easy. Life is good. Even the road crews are helping. Someone on their truck threw a shovelful of patch into the worst pothole on the overpass. I think they did it for cyclists because it is on the paved shoulder where cars won't be traveling. The first client in this morning was asking about my routes, he does the Pan-Mass Challenge and sees me fairly often. We spent some time comparing various hills. Spring is so nice, even when it isn't gorgeous.

Cool, we have a Kodama on the forum! Does your head rattle when you bike?
Another beautiful day today! The wind had switched directions, so I had a headwind going in and a little tailwind on the way home.
I thought I wasn't sore at all from yesterday until I sat on the saddle!
I may take tomorrow as a recovery day....I seem to be a bit stiff. Darn hibernation effect---gotta build up to commuting again!

Got a nice heavy shower on my ride home tonight. It was about the only redeeming feature of the entire day.

A beauty of a ride in - A beautiful sunrise over a calm Lake Ontario nicely viewed from the bike path, but it is still too frggin' cold!!! Temp this morning was 0 C (32 F), supposed to be +10 C (50 F) this afternoon. I have to carry a suitcase - winter clothes for the morning, shorts for the afternoon.

Another sunny day (we usually don't get this many in a row) and 50F/10C and it'suppose to get into the mid 60's. I took the long way in, it was very nice, I think I'll do a river run at lunch and then take the long way home.

Hi Folks,
Nice ride in this morning despite a slight headwind. It poured with rain later in the day, but has stopped now. Is it waiting for me to get back on the bike ?
Cheers,
Ed

Had a great ride home last night. Don't know how I would take going home after rottens days without a little riding to roll the stress out. I worked on getting an efficient pedal stroke this morning and my legs feel a little funny (not sore, just a little more tired than usual). I managed to hold a higher speed though. Nice ride in this morning in the 70's temperature wise. Nice and sunny.

No bike commute today. It was pouring rain at 6am so I knew my training ride was cancelled and I went back to bed. The city parking folks provide a nice benefit to bike commuters (or anybody else who walks or takes public transport): you can buy a limited number of greatly reduced parking vouchers for the super-convenient downtown lot. So I used one today. I'll ride again tomorrow.

A beaudacious ride home yesterday - left work early, it was warm enough for just shorts and bike shirt, took the 22km long Around the Bay route home (first time since February) - Found it to be much more enjoyable in the warm (+10 C or 50 F) and daylight.
Knocked 5 minutes off my winter best time for this route!
Ride in this morning was another beauty along the Lake Ontario Beach Trail, calm with clear skies, a little warmer at +4 C, 40 F
