Was cooler this morning than the past few, around 40 degree's. I put on a hoody over my base-layer wicking shirt, and wore some jean knickers over long johns. Felt pretty warm leaving, so I knew I had to control my effort before I started sweating like crazy.

Good to know. This pay day it might be time to get some tights and a wind breaking jacket.

oakback 09-10-08 07:14 AM

Was pretty cool this morning, maybe as low as 70! Almost time to throw on a sweater!

Saw another bicyclist for the first time on my commute, that surprised me!

walterk46 09-10-08 07:27 AM

How was the commute today? Delightfully cool. Sunny. Calm. Beautiful.

envane 09-10-08 07:41 AM

I'm loving fall. Hope it lasts.

knucklesandwich 09-10-08 07:52 AM

Comfortable days this week in the DC area but I feel like more and more bikers lately are riding like people drive- cluelessly and recklessly.

So far this week I've had to slow down and wave two separate people past me who felt the need to sit on my rear wheel on a stop & go MUP with many road crossings. One of them had his front tire ahead of the back of my rear one 3 or 4 times when I looked back, but still showed no inclination to pass.

The second one came up nearly alongside me (on my right, natch) at a few road crossings, unwilling or unable to slow/stop as I did to see if any cars were coming. This kind of stuff pisses me off to no end.

And last night, as I was riding a busy 4 lane road away from my office, a guy was riding roughly my pace alongside, but weaving back and forth between the sidewalk and parking lots that abut the road. At one intersection he noticed that across it, people were on the sidewalk waiting for the bus, so he just swung right out into the street, not even looking, about 10 feet ahead of me. If I'd been looking over my shoulder for cars behind me, or glancing at anything else, I'd have hit him.

Just venting- after all it still beats driving.

bjoerges 09-10-08 07:54 AM

I've taken nearly the last week off from riding due to a wicked cold. So I was prepared to be a little sore after the ride in today. It felt a little chilly in the house so I decided to grab a sweatshirt for the ride in. I'm glad I did as it was COLD (60' F). Granted, I plan to ride through the Michigan winter so it will certainly get colder. I rode hard to keep warm and averaged 15mph through the mostly uphill route.

I did have one van honk at me (though I'm pretty sure the driver didn't even need to slow down for me before I had turned).

jpdesjar 09-10-08 07:58 AM

nice riding for sure
i saw a few other people riding to work also, one guy riding a brooks and wearing a sport coat...pretty cool

Pig_Chaser 09-10-08 08:16 AM

So i kinda discovered an alternate route (or portion thereof) that is by all means devoid of cars. I get passed hmmm, maybe 2 or 3 times, and that's in the opposite direction, nothing passing in the same direction. This really should be paradise, but in some ways... it just feels lonely.

pinkrobe 09-10-08 08:27 AM

Sunny and crisp this morning. Traffic was largely agreeable, although I did get stuck behind a taxi and had to get all sprinty to make the next three lights. Boo to taxis!

Allycat24 09-10-08 08:45 AM

Nice ride today. I saw a lot of other riders, heading in the opposite direction, which is unusual. Most riders I see are heading into DC. Today was my first commute since vacation in late August. Still riding the mtn bike since my commuter is in the shop. Hope to get it back tomorrow. It looks like I will fall way short of my mileage goal for the year, mostly because my commute is shorter than last year and the miles just don't add up very quickly.

Ka_Jun 09-10-08 08:50 AM

Cool, almost chilly this morning. Had a late start, when I pulled up to my regular parking spot, there are 5 others locked up where usually there are only 3 including me. Should be a nice run out. Clear skies, low ozone.

Thomas Brock 09-10-08 08:58 AM

Nice ride in this morning. Left at 6:15ish and it was dark. Not bad, though as there were fewer cars on the streets I ride before joining the MUP.

luckysnafu 09-10-08 09:02 AM

A nice, cool ride in this morning. First ride with the Dinotte tail light and it seems that most people were more cautious when passing me. The batteries didn't last the entire ride though (~40 minutes) but I brought an extra set just in case which I will be using for the ride home. Gotta recharge the dead ones and see if they last longer next time.

Wind SUCKS
Hills SUCK

I know, I know............WHO GIVES A SUCK:)

Indie 09-10-08 10:07 AM

Hoorah, the footbridge at Summerhill is finished, my route can go back to being shorter again with no walking detours. :)

MrCrassic 09-10-08 10:08 AM

My commute today was GREAT! I wore my North Face fleece, and for some reason it felt so much better to ride with it. Can't wait to ride back home! :)

jterribili 09-10-08 10:50 AM

another humid ride in this morning...i leave early today and it looks like it will be a nice ride home in the steady rain...WOOHOO - been a while since I rode in the rain

HardyWeinberg 09-10-08 12:07 PM

Last night, raced from work to 3 yr old's daycare and then raced to get her to the Y for swim class. Left work 1 hr early, had her showered and changed and waiting for class 10 min ahead. Unfortunately random events make scheduling to take advantage of those 10 min difficult so I still might leave work at the same time tomorrow.

This morning, took her to her 8am dentist appt and then to daycare and then out to work. Ran into another parent from the daycare bringing in her son on a trail-a-bike, and then later on ran into a colleague riding the other way on the MUP.

Catgrrl70 09-10-08 02:36 PM

Fun! Fun Fun Fun. No wind. No rain. Saw the sunrise (need to put 2nd headlight on). Saw Mt. Rainier's image reflecting off the Duwamish River. Went fast. Stopped a left-crosser by pointing and yelling at her "Don't you DARE turn!" and she slammed on her brakes and looked chagrined. HA! Fun!

Edit: I just realized that left-hook person's windows were all fogged up and 1/2 wiped off so she couldn't see me, or my light all that well. So were many other car windows. I was almost mowed down last year as a ped by someone trying to drive with foggy windows. It's that time of year for sure.

caloso 09-10-08 02:45 PM

Chilly. Relatively speaking, of course. I wore arm and knee warmers. Meh.

12bar 09-10-08 05:02 PM

It was hot, humid, and windy, did I mention the wind is not my friend but overall another great day to be on the bike.

ironhorse3 09-10-08 05:54 PM

Great commute due to outstanding weather (cool, clear). Was twilight at 7:00 am but no problem just turned on the headlights that I installed this summer. Coming home I noticed that I went faster than usual, not having to breathe hot polluted air. Also traffic was light. So, no complaints from me today.

Zin 09-10-08 06:29 PM

Nice cool ride in this morning. For the second commute home this week, I managed to get into a 4 man pace line from downtown to where I turn off onto the BCT. Sure makes the commute go by faster when in a nicely rotating pace line. :)

making 09-10-08 06:49 PM

I was sick this morning, sore throat achy and stuff, so I drove my truck in. By noon I felt great, and today was probably the most beautiful day in Indy we will see for a while. Spent half the afternoon trying to figure out how to get my bike to work. ahhh, I will ride tommorrw.

Liv2Ride 09-10-08 08:44 PM

Rode to work with a slower buddy today (15 miles)...nice slow relaxing ride.
Raining on the way home...dropped the buddy at his turnoff, stomped on the pedals and rode as hard as I could the rest of the way home. I was thinking about getting fenders for my bike, but today I decided I love the feel of water getting sprayed in my face as I ride down the road at 30 MPH. H$*L of a ride home!

intheways 09-10-08 08:49 PM

Unfortunately, my commute cycle (3 days bike, 2 days bus) was interrupted by some bowel issues. I'll be back it tomorrow.:)

girljen 09-10-08 10:01 PM

Rode to work and back for a three-hour class.

I stopped at Target on the way in and added an extra mile (and an extra hill!) to the route. I had a headwind, which irritated me, but it wasn't a bad ride.

The ride home was fun. No wind at all. The sky was gorgeous, the moon was lighting up the clouds. The weather was nice. I took it slow and easy, just so I could stay outside for longer.

kg164 09-11-08 04:46 AM

Put the bike in the shed last night at 8:30pm pulled it out at 4:30am this morning. Hate that. Good ride though. Weathers been unbeliveable lately.

making 09-11-08 05:01 AM

Well, I was wrong about yesterday, today promises to be at least as nice. Might sneak out of work early if my adult supervision aint watching. Wonderful ride in this AM. A bit cool for the first couple of miles. Dont know how it could be any nicer. And since I bought my new wheel the old one has not had a single problem. Might have to build a bike around the new wheel. I am glad my wife dont read this fourm....I dont think.

Cold Ride this morning

Left the house at 6:25 and it was 38 deg F!

4.5 miles down the road at the plant, it was 43, granted that is on the lake as well.

Still cold. Wore my tights, longsleeve jersey and gloves! thinking I need to start layering and put on the skull cap (ears still hurt)
