1st time back in about a week and a half, family was in town, nagging knee injury. Was cool and brisk out, burned a couple other commuters, got burned by a few others. Fun.
|
Cool, 1 or 2*C when i left (late) this morning. In order to avoid the rush on the main route that i usually take i tried another route. Man, there was no traffic, too bad there was a signicant gravel portion. I think i'm coming down with something too.

'Twas a brisk and sunny morn. This is my wife's favourite time of the year, when things cool down but aren't really cold. She gets to put on all her favourite outfits [all with matching jackets]. I'm still wearing shorts and a t-shirt most of the time...

Cool? They're forecasting 91 F here!
Got new Pearl Izumi gloves over the weekend; I'd lost one of my Novara gloves last week. I like these better; the Velcro hooks are in the right place, where the Novaras' hooks kept catching on the fabric of the gloves themselves. Had a flat Thursday, a hole that developed around one of my tube valves. Replaced that with a pre-patched tube I happened to be carrying around. JeffS, how was the ride home Friday? Conditions here weren't so bad during normal commuting hours. |
I'm fidgeting, had to drive today because I'm day call and was running late and would have never made it in in time and tomorrow I donate plasma, and that leaves me too spacey to ride, so it looks like Wed, Thur, Fri this week, oh how will I last!!

first ride to work in 4 months. New job, new much longer commute. It went quite well! I'm way up north, my new workplace is in Southland (Calgary). Took 4th Ave to downtown, jumped on 5th and then took Elbow all the way south. No traffic for the most part. Just over an hour ride time. Glad to be back on the bike to work.

A bit overcast here in the Long Beach, CA area. Temps in the upper 60's so I just wore a jersey and shorts and wasn't chilly at all. Got to work and as always greatly enjoyed my morning oatmeal and coffee. Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of the clouds of gnats I have to ride through. I'll become a millionaire when I develop a product to solve this problem. :)

Nice and sunny. 40sF. Supposed to touch 80 later.

Great weather today. The ride in was a breeze as always. Mid-low 70s. No wind. Quiet.
Coming home I was heading right into a big rainstorm......but then it just shifted and moved to the west of me and I got hit with some gnarly headwinds/sidewinds. 97*s, overcast. A little breezy towards then end, but overall a good ride. |
Really good commute both ways. I extended my commute to about twenty miles in the morning (getting my stamina back up for some centuries I'll be doing).
It rained a bit in the afternoon and cooled things off, but stopped raining before my commute back home. |
Meant to go slow this morning but went a lot harder than I thought I could originally. Significantly cooler this morning than the prior week.
|
40s and drizzle this morning. About the same, only without the drizzle for the ride home. Was kind of cool to ride in different weather conditions.
|
great weather today. comfortable ride in and a sweet ride home- it was dark, though.
|
Awesome weather and a great ride overall.
I did almost get hit by a city bus right at the beginning of the ride home. Dumbass tried to turn left at the intersection as I was traveling through. I pointed at him, and he saw me in time to stop the turn, but it left him hanging pretty akwardly in the intersection. Other than that, it was a great ride with really courteous drivers throughout. |
Ah, it was righteous! About 10*C both ways, not bad for shorts and a long-sleeved shirt. My fingers were pretty cold at first; I need to invest in some full-fingered gloves. I adjusted my cleats' fore-aft adjustment to perfection last night so they were great today.
Was riding stronger today, at some points sustaining a cadence of ~120 or so, with the majority at ~110. Managed to shave off about 5 minutes from my average commute time. I wasn't hungry onthe ride today, so that's always a bonus! |
Not so much fun today. I use a bus to get part way to work and the company told me to start coming in an hour earlier. Given the schedules I can show up 15 minutes late or an hour and 5 minutes early. Show up late and you can be out of a job. Show up early and you sit outside in the cold and dark until a manager shows up. So now I have to carry thick tights, a good jacket and gloves round-trip just so I can sit for an hour and stare at grape vines without freezing.

I think my favorite weather for commuting is mid-40's to mid-50's and cloudy... just the way it has been the last couple days. I always look out the window and think "aww, crappy weather!" until I'm out in it for about ten seconds and realize it's that perfect kind of chilly, fresh air.
I rode past a group of people, late middle age, who were dressed up like they'd just gone to some Big Event. When I passed them one said hi, then I started hearing... "oh my!" "I can't believe he's on a bike!" "ooooh, it's cold!" Nice end to my ride. |
Yee haw! :p I left about 10 minutes early because there was a big storm coming. It was dusky when I left and I could already see faint flashes and hear distant rumbles of thunder.
Fortunately I had a tail wind so I was riding as fast as I could comfortably maintain. I started getting rained on. Not steadily, but enough that I knew I had to push to keep ahead of it. I got about 2 blocks from work, bottom of a hill, at a red light. I stopped, like a good boy, and about 15 seconds later it started raining pretty hard. "$%(* this", I said to myself, and I ran the light. :o I went anaerobic up the hill and sailed into our building just as the skies were really opening up. Only got a little bit wet. Not soaked through. All in all, a fun ride. :giver: |
Last night: Awesome! First time I rode the entire 22 miles home on the folding bike. It cinally ocurred to me that I can take Little Red in on the train and then just ride her home. (The full non-bike/train commute is 44 miles RT.)
today: bike/train. Looks like we'll get some nasty rain later, this would be Little Red's maiden voyage in a rainstorm. It's getting dark in the morning now. Must order the Minewt I've had my eye on. |
I have a feeling that I'm gonna get wet this afternoon. The forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms, but it was so humid this morning that I don't see how it can't rain. We had 4-6" of rain here last week from TS Hanna, and all of the water has to go somewhere. Much of it has evaporated and now it's up in the sky wanting to come down again.
Yesterday the high was about 90F but I sweated more than I have all summer, including some much hotter days. It is just that humid. Funny thing is that my commute time was very fast yesterday and this morning, so the humidity ain't slowing me down. |
Pretty strong headwind at times but still a beautiful ride. One complete idiot right before I got to work. Looking forward to ride home.
|
This was the first autumnal ride of the year, weather-wise. It was 50 degrees and beautiful. I did it in short sleeves but next time I will wear some socks with my sandals.
|
Grrr...I get up at 5:00 so I went to bed at like 8:30 last night because I was super tired. I fell asleep okay, but kept waking up. Think I got about 4-5 hours of sleep. The ride woke me up but now that I'm at work, I feel like going to sleep again. Thank goodness for coffee.
|
Scattered showers and thunderstorms this morning, I thought I was going to make it in without getting wet, but about halfway in (6.5 mile commute), it started to rain. Stopped to put on the rain jacket and made it in under a light rain. Luckily I had thrown some spare clothes into the backpack just before setting out this morning, so a quick change at work and all is well. Good commute - I secretly enjoy the rain rides.

Boo dropsie day.
Got to work and when taking my bag off dropped the battery holder for my dinotte. Exploded 99cent piece of crap which I don't happen to have a spare for. :( Dropped my astrale 8 :(:( No display and when I went to reset it it just shows garbage and dims. Hopefully the battery died when I dropped it.. yeah thats it! 3 bikes, 3 different tires sizes but I'll have to borrow the one off my utility bike when I get home. The ride was good though. Was waiting to cross a highway at a long light and a car pulls up and yells "YOU THE MAN" after my initial shock i smiled and mumbled something. They said see you at work and sped off. Hmmm. I'm still not sure who it was. I know a whole two males in this building but apparantly everyone knows me by name now since I commute on a bike. |
wow, it was a balmy 7C when i left this morning. Funny how warm that feels after starting out at 1C yesterday. The morning was gorgeous with misty fog and a spetacular sunrise. I did have to go through some heavy fog at one point which was a little nerve racking.
