Beautiful morning for a commute. Temp 71°, humidity 80%, clear skies. Felt like I could ride forever (or at least another hour ;)).

Really nice flow to trafffic today. It was smooth sailing all the way in. Woot!

It was a great ride in, cool and completely still. I think i freaked out a pedestrian whom i followed for all of 5 seconds on my way to a mailbox. Can't say that i blame her, it was at like 6am and it was pitch black save for the streetlights and she was walking in the "spotlight" of my bike light. I also dished out my first blinky to a biking ninja later on in the route.

I was pretty tired this morning and having trouble getting my bike folded properly. Caffeine!

Haven't changed road position although I push it a little more on the new bike.
old: entry level hybrid, Kenda Kourier 700x40 @ 65psi, generic rim tape and Forte SV tubes. 13 months no flats.
new bike: 26x1.9 tires @ 65psi=3 flats and now has 26x1.25 tires @ 85psi. Name brand rim tape and Bontrager or Forte PV tubes.
My commute is on two, 5 lane arterials at night. The traffic is fast (45+mph) but less dense than the day time. There is a gutter lane maybe a foot or more wide. I ride this as traffic flies by but move closer to right tire track when its clear. I also move away from storm drains with the 26x1.25 tires. 4 of the 7 major intersection have some sort of club so there is broken glass all the time. The Forte tires are still on probation before I switch to SM+s. The latest culprit:

Some lady in a nurse uniform kept honking at me on a street with clearly posted 'bike route' signs every 100 yards or so... I just ignored her and finally she went around (two wide lanes), honking as she passed of course. I wanted to catch her at the light and point out the bike route signs, but it turned green before I could catch up. It must've been tough for her being stuck behind a bike, why, i'll bet it added about 30 seconds to her commute! What was I thinking riding in the road?!

Great weather, cool temps, but massive headwind. Of course in three hours, I'll really enjoy that 14mph pointed straight at my house.

I also have a Peugeot (a 1962) and although the bikes are the same size and same weight (22 pounds and a few ounces) they are very different machines... (the Pug is also a fixed gear).

Even with 125 psi tyres the Gran Sport rides like a dream, handles like it's on rails, and is just a trifle fast.

I rode her in today and she was back to being her glorous old self... I have also been really pleased at how well those 630:20 Avocet tyres roll and ride, even when they are running 120 / 105 psi.

My Pug will beat me up a little more if I run higher pressures as the frame is a little stiffer and tighter.

74 degrees with wind at 10mph pushing me. Was riding at 20-21mph consistent. That was going to work, on the way home; it was 10mph winds slowing me down..I was about to die at the end...

Single speed I suppose does not always help against the wind..

I actually saw another cyclist today! As I was approaching a side road from the main road I could see the bike headlight and I got all warm and fuzzy. We almost came to the intersection at the same time. We both acknowledged each other with a low wave.

That is the third biker I have seen in the a.m. since I started commuting 4 months ago.

Great commute today both ways. I need to work on my rear wheel it was wobbling pretty bad on the way home. :(

didn't have to go in until about 5:30 pm tonight but it was chilly!! Got really chilly on the way home- I actually had to wear gloves.:eek:

Picked my wife up at BU and we had the late night ride along the river. I almost ran over a rabbit on the bike path across from the IHOP/Staples on Soldier's Field Rd.- there are so many rabbits there I call it "Watership Down"

No commute for me today and I'm not going to ride all this weekend. I figured I would give my leg muscles a chance to recover, as they have been feeling sore on my commutes last week.

Last night's commute home was hell. The lid on one of my bucket panniers came off, twice; the second time I had to ride three miles to find it, strap it down with a couple bungee cords, and ride home. Oh, and someone ran me off the road. :mad: Took me two hours to get home. :notamused:

The commute to work was tiring today, a lot of traffic, there is a huge festival going on this weekend. I work in the afternoon/night so the temp was around 75 when I rode...beautiful day though.

The ride home was nice, about 65 degrees. I currently ride ninja style, which I know is dangerous, but I can't afford good lights and don't want to spend money on crappy lights. But I just ride extra cautious.

I too had a night ride home from work at about 8:30 pm. SUPER! I went through the park 2/3 of the way home as usual, with no street lighting. My improvised bright headlights are great. They run off a 12 volt jump starter battery. I carry this around all the time and it weighs 8 lbs (which is the smallest jump start battery I could find). It's worth every pound of its extra carry weight due to the safety, confidence and convenience of being able to SEE at night. Plus, since my commute is short (3.5 mi), I need the extra exercise. On days when I get on the road bike sans battery / rack/ etc it seems to be a lot less effort (so I go longer on those days).

I did my weekend commute on my Schwinn LeTour(27 miles this time) from my home in Oak Cliff to Katy Trail. The whole trip was cool and pleasant. I must be getting in better shape 'cause I hardly broke a sweat. On the way back, I ran into a group of roadies. They were pretty cool and even let me tag along as we rode through downtown on Houston St. and across the Zang bridge. They turned down a side street and I continued on home.

went out to fix the wobble that I noticed on the way home after work Friday. Another broken spoke. The local bike shop was already closed and the Sports Chalet didn't carry my spokes or have the tool to remove the cluster. They didn't even have the tube I needed for my back up bike. I might be riding the Mtn. Bike tomorrow. I better leave early. Yuck!

The commute was good and cool. I am really wishing I had lights though....riding a black bike with a black helmet and no lights is starting to scare me a little.

Get lights ASAP! I bought lights when I started commuting. I have a bright LED blinking red light behind me and I still almost get hit. I'm going to get another one.

I think it's also the law in most places but more importantly you want people to know you are there!

It was cool in SoMD today! But I had a sweatshirt on and it was too much. So my commuting time was higher than normal because I had to pull over, take off my helmet, take off my clear safety glasses, take of the class-II safety vest (with blinking LED's don't you know), take off my Showers Pass jacket, pull the sweatshirt off, pack the sweatshirt, put the jacket back on, put the vest back on, put the helmet on, and put the glasses on. Whew. I got more sweated up just standing alongside the road. I'm a cold weather wimp but need to just suck it up and accept the fact that I will be cold for a few minutes when I start my commute.

Over dressed this morning. Temps were 48° F. Put on a long sleeved shirt and it was too hot. Yesterday was 38° F and I put on the longs. This time of year in New England, cool mornings, warm afternoons.

Cool and wet. Wore a long-sleeved shirt and rain-jacket.

I need fenders in a bad sort of way.

I was right! I regretted missing out on the fall leaves yesterday. But I rode today, and if the meeting after work gets out on time (or if I skip it, a likely alternative), I will get to wander home on the MUP and see the leaves.

This morning's ride was a little warmer than usual, and absolutely gorgeous. There were little translucent bands of clouds painted across the sky, with stars peeking out from behind.

This was my first time riding to work without a backpack. Instead I carried all my stuff in a trunk bag, and it definitely made for a much more comfortable ride. The weather was hot and humid, which is normal for Florida.

I may do that in a bit. I have a blinker, but as winter approaches might be a good idea to load up. I have a helmet blinker. Sometimes I think it makes me look like a knob but i'd rather not leave behind a cool looking corpse.
