22 miles with a nearly stead 12-ish mph headwind and overcast skies. Still enjoyable though - the leaves are beginning to color up nicely here in W. Mass.

Cooled down, it was only around 80 outside this morning. :D Light headwind, just enough to give a good workout. Didn't even seen the bus once, was too far ahead of it. I did drop my bike coming out of QT, I didn't wipe out myself (Graceful hopping skills for the win), but the stem twisted a bit. Fixed it when I got to work.

Rainy! 50sF. Went the shorts/t-shirt route. My arms and legs at least were dryer than people decked out head-to-toe in raingear.

7 yr old was happy as long as he could pop his plastic bag over his seat when he hopped off the bike at the school rack.

Cancelled my pre-work training ride with my buddy in order to ride the kids into pre-school. I think this is what they mean by Quality Time.

Last commute of the week. I need to take the car tomorrow for a host of reasons. Like a lot of posters it was the coldest morning of the season. 42, cloudy and some wind and maybe some drizzle for the ride home. Any way I broke down and wore a hat under the lid and I had some gloves on (I think they belonged to my wife), but stayed with shorts and a couple of long sleeve shirts. I'm sure that I had quite the dork factor working for me this morning but I did manage to stay comfortable. Not many other people out this morning either. Whimps!!

This morning's commute was quite pleasant. Temps are still in the 60s or high 50s in the mornings so I'm still running in just a t-shirt and gym shorts. This morning I wouldn't have minded having long sleeves, but it still wasn't too bad.

It was kind of a special commute, as it was the inaugural running of "The Old Gentleman"- the Raleigh DL-1 Tourist 3-speed I picked up last week. A little cleaning off, a new shifter cable, and a pair of Wald rear wire baskets, and he was up to the task.

Climibing Hooters Hill this afternoon might be a pain with only 3 speeds though....

Nice hot commute late this morning. I'm inordinately proud of myself because I installed new pedals with power grips, new freddy fenders and a new rack yesterday. Way harder than I thought it would be including having to cobble something together to attach the front fender (why didn't I notice there were no eyelets?) and all the right sized screws rolling away under the furniture, but I got it done.:thumb: Miraculously, nothing fell off this morning. Not only that, nothing rubbed or rattled! Yay me!:)

HOT and windy this morning for me. Also recovering from a boout of sinusy flu so struggling to get enough air in. But it's good to be back on the bike.

Morning ride was nice, almost froze my naked fingers, until i stopped by and swapped on my winter gloves.
(i knew it was a good idea to pack them in, just in case)

Night commute was...mostly okay, except for the Damn driver BEEPING for just being plain stupid.

Here's why.

It was 3 bikers, including me, in a one way street, so we were nearing the end of the street and preparing to stop.
So we all 3 pretty much took the entire street, it's not unusual in a red light.
And that's the key IT WAS A READ LIGHT; "can't you see?" that's what went through me head.
So since 2 of us were heading north, and the other guy to south, we split our own way and off we go.
By the time we started moving, the guy HONKED again, like WTF?
Oh the most funny thing, to Top it off, there was a Taxi stopped at the Red light, in front of all of us.
so after we left, the guy at most moved 10 inches and had to stop again, behind the Taxi.....


So drivers are just ridiculously stupid....

it was effin cold, like 44 degrees...went with shorts and a moisture wicking shirt under another tee...i was fine...but my hands hurt like hell

I need to get some base layers...like under armor cold gear...but i don't have money to waste...any reccomendations?

On the last couple minutes of my ride home "O Fortuna-Carmina Burana" came on my IPOD. It was bad ass! Talk about the perfect song for the home stretch. I felt like it was background music and I was in a movie or something. Me against nature, the road, the cars. cool.

Good commute. I'm ready to take on the rain tomorrow! My first wet commute.

my commuting bike needs some TLC! my chainring is gummed up, chain worn way down and my derailleur jockey wheels are run down to nothing and don't really spin- and I need new brake blocks.

amazing how I just ride this thing into the ground and don't really notice. The miles do add up that's for sure. Hope to get to it this weekend. It'll sure feel good to ride it after it's tuned up.

Despite that the commute was great.

I really pushed myself on a training session last night to the point that I left nothing in the tank. Therefore this morning I pretty much just coasted on cruise control. Weather was good and not too much traffic was out, so overall it was a positive experience.

That whole opera is kind of badass. Me and my pseudo-punk-rock friends used to listen to it in high school. Joined in the rotation by The Clash, Mephiskapheles, and Crass.

Overcast. Cold. Windy. Headwind. Drizzle. Sucked.

brisk and sunny, stopped at my favorite bagel place on the way to work too and picked up a salt bagel with veggie tofu cream cheese...delicious and a great way to start the day and another bonus is that this morning my feet stayed dry

In the afternoons, I have a left turn leading to a mild downhill with two left turn lanes. 8 times out of 10 I end up at the first person in the right most left turn lane waiting for the light to change green. Occassionally I get honked at by some one arriving behind me. But most often the cars will line up 12-15 deep in the other lane rather than pull up behind a biker!

Wednesday, a delivery van driver who is frequently at that light with me, was laughing at all the cars lined up behind him with none behind me. He said to me "They ain't seen you get off the line when this light changes or they'd be behind you, not me." So naturally, I found a few extra watts for Wednesday's green light. ;) He was still laughing when he passed me on the uphill about 1/2 mile later.

Had to be at work at 7:00 this AM, so very early commute. Wow, so many cars even then! Anyway, just a bit drizzly, and I'm totally geared up for rain, turned out to be a bit excessive.

Riding my Rocky Mountain after having gone fixed all last week. Wow, such a difference. Pedaling just felt bizarre for the first while, my legs were jerky, having got used to the support of the pedal coming up under power. Lit up like Christmas with my Down Low Glow, DiNotte, and PB Superflash. That was nicely confidence-inspiring.

Though it feels like a tank compared to the iro, the big tires were a major help against a stealthy enemy: horse chestnuts! I must have squirted a half-dozen to the side under my wheels. Pok! Pok! Pok!. On the fixie's skinny tires I think I would have gone down. So, variety is a good thing.

Damp but no actual precipitation. Very wet going home last night. Stopped at the Y for the kids' swim class. Should've packed spare biking clothes so I could shower there (to warm up) and then ride home in dry clothes, but whatever.

It's cool when you get a chance to show motorists what's what. Eventually the others will start to recognize you and line up behind you.

You won't regret it.

I was rolling out of a trackstand when the light turned, a car full of kids passed me and the driver, a young woman, caught my eye and mouthed "that's cool!" I think it was that's cool. There's also the possibility that it was "that fool!"

Either way, it was a pleasant ride to work riding the fixed gear as a change of pace. I still have my cyclocross tires on it, I really should put the 25mm tires back on for the street.

I've now been biking to work for about a year.
This is the first week I've ridden 5 days in a row. It's been great - but I'm really tired.

The ride in to work was peaceful and quiet. For once, no dogs chasing me! I altered my route slightly. My new route has alittle more car traffic, but it goes through a higher end neighborhood. No potholes, no debris on the street and no loose dogs. My old route is shorter, 2 stray dogs that will chase, debris on street and all the potholes you want.
New route adds about a quarter mile to my commute but it's well worth it.

I had an awesome and yet bittersweet ride to work today...

Fall is upon us and there will soon come a point where many of my girls will have to be stored until the snow melts so I have been taking them out to enjoy the fall leaves and balmy temperatures.

Today I rode my 1948 Rudge Whitworth roadster and the bike certainly has this power to inspire one to slow down ansd see the sights and riding it certainly lowers one's blood pressure... I stopped by my lbs to weigh the old girl (38 pounds) and both the wrenches there had to take her out around the block.

They were both gobsmacked.

Ride to work was nice. The ride back was even better. Headwinds both ways, but on the way back it was fairly strong, with occasional gusts. Burned like hell pushing through it, but I don't think I broke my rhythm by too much.
