Over dressed this morning. Temps were 48° F. Put on a long sleeved shirt and it was too hot. Yesterday was 38° F and I put on the longs. This time of year in New England, cool mornings, warm afternoons.

fun ride this morning, left a bit later than i wanted to but i was moving slow...took a slightly different route this morning and the climb was steeper than i thought it was going to be but i am glad i did it
it should be sunny for the ride home which i am looking forward to |
I'm back in the game. I rode in today (even though I went for a 60-mile ride yesterday), I felt good. I felt fast, but my bike computer disagrees.
It was an enjoyable ride. I'm being a little more aggressive about taking the lane. It's working well. No idiots today. It was cool, and I still need to buy gloves. |
Odd commute. I was riding down the street next to the light rail station at union station in Denver. A motorcycle going the other way pulled a U turn into my lane directly in front of me. Fortunately it was at a slow speed and I was already slowed down watching the biker a tad incredulously. Then the rider would not speed up so I passed the biker in the left lane and thanked him\her for cutting me off.
As I went further south the temps increased. I ended up in a jersey and shorts at the end. Almost overheated. The results for such an occurrence are quite painful for me. |
It's brisk baby! Now is the time of year where I start to watch the thermometer. 7C today, supposedly -2C tomorrow morning...

Last night after hearing the weather forecast, i decided to drive. I warned my wife not to assume my truck was stolen if she didn't see it in the morning. In the morning i got all ready to drive and had my key almost in the door when i decided to ride. The wind wasn't as bad as they had forecast, and the rain was only light. The temperature wasn't too bad either. So i went back in and changed into some wet weather gear and headed out. The wind was at my back coming south but totally in my face heading east. All in all it was a great ride and i wasn't too wet when i arrived.

I had my latest epileptic seizure on Saturday and my legs were stiff all weekend. I had to cancel a 60+ mile ride, which kinda killed my Saturday.
Back on the bike this morning, I felt fine. It's starting to be dark when I leave the house, so I get to use my new helmet-mounted Dinotte 200L. So cool. |
Today was the first morning in a long while where a brief, "I'm to tired to bike" thought passed through my mind. I Quickly booted it out of my head and got on the bike, a "Shut up and Ride" moment if you will.
It had become such routine that I never even thought about it before, but for some reason I was really dragging this morning. It was kind of cold, I thought about stopping at REI after work, to look at some tights for the colder mornings, but at 75 bucks being the low end, I think I'll wait for Pay day. Also might be time to get a new water bottle holder, one that won't scratch up my thermos! |

I think it's also the law in most places but more importantly you want people to know you are there! |
Sunny (at least, it was rising) and brisk. Long sleeves. Nice ride. Overhauled hubs and lubed the bejeezus out of freehub. I should have done that in spring to get nice summer's worth out of them, but whatever. It was really nice and smooth coming in today. Time for headlight very soon.

Had to use the back pack as I haven't gotten my panniers and I hate the back pack. But had to lug my clothes in for the week. Nice and cool, I was getting a little too toasty the last 2 miles though. Glad to have my zip off pants I use for ridding (they are actually hiking pants but I love them for this extreme temp days) as it's suppose into the 70's on the way home
|
Also, I had this screaming back spasm Saturday that basically incapacitated me the rest of the day. I am recovering but still, about the only thing I can do normally, is bike, so that is something at least.
|
Upper 30sF this morning. Clear sky though. No wind. I passed 4 cyclists. Lots of squirrels out running around.
|
Temperatures are really nice these days. If only I could keep track of my armwarmers, it would be perfect. Instead, I wore a long sleeved capilene baselayer under my jersey. And that was about right.
Rode the steel roadie this morning to meet my buddy before work for our standard Monday morning tempo ride. Legs were fairly heavy due to my first ever CX race yesterday afternoon, but John took mercy on me and we went a little easier than usual. In about an hour, I'm going to ride home and swap the roadie for the MTB-plus-trail-a-bike so I can ride my 4-year old to soccer practice this afternoon. I think he'll enjoy that. Yesterday he said his three favorite things were 1) riding his bike, 2) playing soccer, and 3) playing with his cars. He makes me so proud! |
It was 34 degrees when I left this AM. I think that's about as cold as I want to get. I put plastic bags over my socks inside my shoes and they were fine. My head just gets so cold even with a hat. However, by the time I reached town (10 miles) i was in good shape. Actually I think it's a little warmer there.
As I was cruising down a little side street in our village, I ended up sharing the road with a skunk. Fortunately he just kind of ran along side me briefly then cut out into the grass.. Could have been bad..... The return trip was absolutely great. A slight headwind, tried to break my record time. I missed it by about 30 seconds. Maybe later in the week. |
Had to go to a conference this AM. No ride.
|
I'm home from work. As usual the ride home was slower than the ride in. The weather was beautiful, except for a mild headwind.
I stopped at a convenience store for some Gatorade, and several people asked questions about my 'bent. For the most part drivers were friendly today. I did have one guy yell at me to get on the sidewalk. His timing was great, I was on the bridge where the lane is marked for sharing with bicycles. I just smiled and kept going. |
The ride home sucked bad. There was a lot of wind and it made me exhausted and my back hurt. Stupid wind.
|
I did my usual 1 hour see the ocean and watch the waves cardio ride before work today. I go riding for PT because my commute is less than 2 miles each way.

Happy Fall
Ah, the first day of fall. Sad that I didn't know it until I logged into Google this am. Ride in was nice - cool enough that I did not sweat through my tshirt. Ride home was also good, until the stupid hills just before the house. Oh, and I every piece of junk on the road both ways. Still feels good to get out of the car and relax on the ride.
So, Happy First Day of Fall everyone! |
Good ride in the AM. Mondays are always a little more challenging! Plus I had to use my cheapo wheels. The Moon was above me so I couldn't really watch it. Half way through the ride I thought maybe I should have just worn my T-shirt. I wore my long sleeve and hat and was plenty warm.
I really love riding. It really is addicting. I don't like stop signs. |
I rode home in the dark.
Bummer. These days where I don't get to go outside in the daylight are kind of a drag...but at least I get to go outside. The ride home was a good reminder of that. The weather was warm and calm, and I made it a point to notice all the nature around me, even though I was riding on the street and seeing everything through artificial lights. I heard crickets. I saw weeds growing wild on the slope up to the freeway retaining wall. I smelled freshly-cut grass. I saw a mirror image of the stars that I had seen this morning. I found a good cadence, mellowed out, and drastically improved my night. |
sounds like your an optimist! Sometimes all we have is weeds and crickets!
|
Good ride, despite an annoying headwind. Hoping it will be a nice tailwind on the way home!
|
Upper 60's this morning, so my jersey worked out just great. And a tailwind too! Woohoo! Clouds looked heavy so it was really dark riding in. I get in for a 6:30 start and usually leave the office at 6pm, so soon I am going to really test how my front light battery makes out for both the ride in and ride home. A deer (I think) scared the crap out of me today. I think it was grazing in the swail along the road and when I went by it bounded out into the field. All I saw was this big dark shape flying through the air. It sort of looked like it was one of those flying demons from the movie Constantine! Maybe it was and I am only rationalizing that it was a deer. Yikes. I think I will change my route.

outstanding.

Got ready to leave yesterday morning, and my front tire was flat. I started to fix it but didn't have time, so I ended up driving. Bummer, but I operate on a pretty tight schedule in the mornings and generally don't have time for repairs. The bike was fine the day before, so it must have had a slow leak.
Repaired the leak yesterday after I got home from work, and decided that I need a new set of tires with winter approaching. I've got some Panaracer Paselas with lots of miles left on them that I could just slap on, but I don't like them. Their rolling resistance is very high, and they are so large that they rub my fenders if everything isn't just right. Thinking about trying some new Continental GP4000s with reflective sidewalls that I saw on the net for a good price. The added visibility would be nice and I'm sure they would roll much better than the Paselas. the ride into work today was nice. Temps in the low 60s with a stiff NE wind, which meant I had a tailwind much of the way. That will make the ride home more difficult, but at least it won't be hot. It is dark now for about 2/3 of my morning commute, so that means it will be sometime next May before my morning ride is in daylight again. Comforting thought. |
Nice this morning. Wore a hat under the helmet today, and I thought it would be too much but it was fine. I definitely need to pick up some full finger gloves, though.
I always see several cyclists on my ride, and I never recognize any of them. This is a good thing, I think. |
It was overcast this morning, which made the ride a little cooler and more pleasant. My 6th commute overall, and everything is starting to feel routine. My goal is for it to become so routine that I will grab the bike every morning without even thinking about it.
|
Rode halfway in chatting with a commuter who has been taking the same roads for 12 months but we never crossed paths. Except I think he may have been the rider I was trying to chase down months ago but couldn't catch on the way home one day. It turns out he is building a house right down the street from where I live and trying to get a coworker who lives nearby to commute also. Howdy Neighbor!
