Another great day to bike in Denver, about 35 and sunny.

Quiet ride home. had such a good ride that I rode past the house and continued past Kiest park. Rode down Rugged rd towards Bishop Dunne high school. There are two killer hills that I had to conquer this evening. Got it done but with alot of effort! I was wore out when I got home.

I had a jerk in a pick-up blast a horn at me from close range, and then motioned toward the sidewalk as he passed. I'm asking Santa for a handlebar-mounted disintegrating ray gun!!

I'm still around and still commuting.

The new job has taken a lot of my time, and the boss can see my monitor, so I avoid non-work related stuff.

I drove today (woke up late), but I did ride in some cold, rainy weather yesterday. It was fun, and now my new co-workers know that I'm crazy.

I fell asleep on the bus part of my trip to work and someone walked off with my helmet.

OK, I know that's no big deal for all of you, but I've been living and riding in SoCal for a long time and I've sort of forgotten that humans are waterproof. I've been trying to psych myself up to ride my bike to work (OK, 3 miles to the subway stop) when it rains and today was the day--dry when I left in the morning but 90% chance of rain for the return trip. I probably packed enough dry clothes for me and my entire Civ Pro class, plus a useless raincoat and extra shoes, but (as you all know) riding home in the rain was No Big Deal. And the heavens didn't really open up until right after I got home and finished tarping the bike. I'm so hard core. :commute:

Winter has set in in Europe, we had some snow (about two inches) in the streets on sunday and some thin black ice yesterday and monday , time to put the wintergloves back on and a warmer jacket as well.
A while ago I bought a new bike ,a Kona Jake-the-Snake , to ride to work on the thursdays and fridays , the rest of the week I drive my car half-way and a folderbike into town .
Feels good to ride the Kona ,fast and smooth ,but still a bit like a mountainbike .
Amazing how good it feels to ride through the darkness , both ends of the day ,and a quick pace really keeps you warm .

Worst commute of the season thus far for me. It was 45F and pouring rain with wind gusts up to 50mph the weather man said............I almost got blown down it was so windy...........

I had just put on knobbier tires on my Fuji touring bike.........so my traction was good........

It was 9pm, dark, and I couldn't find toto or aunti em...........

Good news, my P7 lights worked great...........

My first commute! 1/2 mile or so to the Metro, then 19 minutes on that, then about 3.5 mile ride to work. To protect my laptop, I rigged up a padded container. For those who have ever gotten married or attended a wedding shower, you might recognize the green container as a "Pyrex Portable", designed to transport pyrex glassware. The cool thing is that it comes with pockets on top and bottom into which you insert hot/cold gel packs. Seemed the perfect bump buffer to me. So, I used that on the bottom (beneath laptop) and a spare tube wrapped around the laptop for a snug fit in the container.

32 degrees, about a 1/2 in of snow on the ground, roads slushy, not much wind...BUT NO ONE TOLD ME IT WAS THE FINALS OF "CAGERS LET'S SEE HOW CLOSE WE CAN GET TO THE NUT ON THE BIKE!"

Man, I had at least a dozen finalists, the good news the Marathon Winters worked well in the slush and I did't lose much time at all.

Nothing stolen from me this morning, except time. Insane ~30MPH headwind blowing off Lake Champlain. The commute was a total slog. Temps down around freezing. Lots of black ice on the MUP and some on the roads as well. Studs FTW!

After putting it off, I finally got some winter gear and did my first sub-freezing commute. I overheated.

In retrospect, I don't see what the big deal is.

Gonna get a lot worse when we get snow though :(

I took the short route to work today, and it was pretty effortless. This could be my last commute this week, since I may take tomorrow and Friday off.

It felt warm this morning and there were fewer cars on the road which is always nice. Overall the ride was relaxing and I stopped in at my favorite bagel shop on the way. Cheers

Grumpy this morning.

About 3/4 mile from my building I stood up out of the saddle to get some power on the hill and felt something pop in my lower abdomen. I've had 4 hernias; this felt exactly like one. :( Still in some pain now but hoping it'll pass (they have in the past).

When I opened my clothes locker this morning there was a note saying that the lockers are for day use only and any items left in the locker after 12/19 will be donated to charity.

Like so many companies lately, my employer says it wants to be "green" and "eco-friendly". Hey, how about making it simpler to bike-commute? :mad:

Itsjustb, that SUCKS! I hope you haven't gotten another hernia, and your employer can just stuff it. Seriously. I hope you get a tailwind on the way home.

My ride in was cold. I lost my mittens last night, so I just had the cloth gloves that I wear under the mittens. Brrrrr.

The ride home last night was brisk.

The ride in today was cool (still refusing to use the word "cold" here). It was 32 degrees but I was well prepared.

I'm putting toe-clips on today and will give them a good test on the ride home.

Oh, that sucks!

I had a rolling chat with another commuter a couple of days ago on the way down the greenway. She told me someone stole her much-used balaclava.

I told her someplace, there's a perverts' club in NYC with a really narrow focus, and a guy at this week's meeting going, "Oh my god, look, you guys, I got one..."

Like many others, this is my last commuting day for the week. It was cold this morning (16F), clear and no wind to speak of. Again by the time I got into the office my four layers on top were completely soaked with sweat (except my wicking base layer of course). I need to figure out a way to vent a bit better I guess. The temp could be near 40F for the ride home, which will be nice.

my first ride in three weeks (wife had a baby girl, I've been too tired to ride). what a treat it is to have above zero temps in November, I was sweating buckets by the time I got to work.

Cold but beautiful stars. The strut that ties my panier rack to the seat post broke during the ride. I didn't notice it until I got to work. The bike felt off-balance and my gears were shifting on their own because the rack rotated back onto the derauliur (sp? - whatever the f it is called). I should pay more attention.

Holy crap, it's raining in Phoenix. I got to hastily prepare for a wet ride, which meant packing a towel and putting my backpack in an "emergency poncho" (empty trash bag). Fired up the blinky, and I was off to the races.

I knew I missed the rain. This was one of the most satisfying commutes I've ever had.

Took the trailer and about a months worth of clothes to work this AM. Cool enough down by the river to ice a small pond over and ice in my 'stache.
Ordered some Schwalbe studded tires last night. Some don't believe they need them around Denver but I feel better since I also wander when on night shift in all parts of the city.

Trailer had a flat when I got to work. Goat head...of course! Not sure how long it was flat but might explain why my last 2 miles was a bit tougher than usual...

Cold! Fast(ish)

I'd been leaving my pants in the office and putting them on when I get here. This morning I went to the bathroom to change w/ my pannier of clothes and forgot to grab the pants. Fortunately nobody really here today so I could dash back in my underwear and grab them. Whew. Most of my morning will be on a conference call so it's not like clothing is that essential anyway, but I am prepared for anything now.

Just to prove that I do read other's posts....

habernac...congrats on the baby!!!! (having had 6 kids I can relate to that being tired!)

At my work, they changed the locker policy to the same as yours a couple of years ago (though no mention of charity). I would have started commuting all the way to work sooner had I known that they make a few exceptions--one of which is for bike commuters (I learned of it from the only other regular commuter). I chose a full-height locker close to the showers and put a combo lock on it. Might be worth asking (and noting the overall benefits of cycling--reduced parking pressure, traffic, pollution, the whole spiel...). Ya never know. And if you're so inclined, make an issue of it. :D (and good luck with physical thing)

My commute today? From my warm bed to the computer (using use-or-lose today and Friday). I did have to struggle into my fuzzy slippers, though. :rolleyes:

I spoke to the guy who runs our fitness centers and they have the same policy--they make exceptions for bike commuters. Whew!

He's asked me to reduce my stuff down to one locker (I currently use two half-height lockers). His request is reasonable, I guess, but I'm still coping with having reduced from 3 to 2 when I moved to this building. Add the fact that my lockers were free in the old building and I have to pay $8/month now and overall I'm not happy.

Monday I start looking for lockers elsewhere in this building.
