I dodged the rain yesterday on my bike commute, but decided not to press my luck today. Yesterday it started raining about an hour after I got to work and continued until mid-afternoon, but it cleared by the time I left. However, this morning a line of severe thunderstorms rolled through our area starting about 5 am and it was still raining pretty hard about the time I usually leave for work. There was also a tornado watch, so I don't feel much guilt in driving.

Sweet ride today. Mid 40s but sunny and comfortable and a light tailwind. Heard my phone's text message beep in my bag so I swung into the woods (off the MUP) and read it. Friend trying to get me to go out drinking.

Another MTB rider went by, so I put the phone away and chased him down. He was moving along pretty well too, but he left the MUP shortly after I got to him.

Didn't see any other cyclists going my way.

Today was the first time I've ever commuted to work... 9.47 miles according to my Garmin Forerunner...took me 50 minutes, wasn't too bad other than the fact that I forgot my gloves and it was about 38 degrees this morning....I've decided, I need to find a vintage higher end road bike for my commuting purposes. My 2006 Scott Voltage YZ4 mtn bike just isn't going to do it...heavy frame, mtn bike gearing, knobby tires....I bet I could shave some time off with a more efficient ride. I estimated that it would take me 45 minutes, and it took 50, I got hosed by some traffic lights...

I wish we had bike lanes here in Michigan....drivers are so crazy that I rode on the sidewalk on the busy, busy roads....

Good ride this morning felt like a messanger because I had to drop off a bottle of beer at a buddy's house to be consumed later...yummy.

Sunny and warm, biked in some comfy knickers too, thinking about buying another pair, they are by prana and they are just stretchy enough to let the legs just spin along.

Happy Friday everyone!

yesterday my ride in was a little wet - steady rain. Last night I missed the t-storms by a few hours and it was a great ride at 11:30pm! Nasty t-storms rolled through this morning at about 5:30 and we had tornado watch up until 9am and t-storm warnings for the rest of the day. Given all that and I need to go do some errands right after work, I caged it this morning - BOOOO!

have a great weekend everyone!

This morning's ride was the best so this year for a morning commute. Last night it rained just enough to wash the roads clean, and this morning the roads were damp, but not really wet. The temp was about 60. Conditions were about perfect. And I didn't get buzzed once. I don't have a nice, scenic ride through parks like some of you, but for my route, this is about as good as it gets.

Fantastic commute. Our cycling club got together and about 15 of us cycled downtown together. Upper 50s and little wind...very nice

Didn't get to commute yesterday due to a dental appointment, so I was glad to get back on the road today. High 60s and breezy. Very pleasant.

I've also planned out a new route that will be nearly 10 miles (instead of my current 6) and will keep me off of that damned 60mph highway for all but the last few hundred feet. I am so excited! I wanted a longer route for a lot of reasons, but it's nice to always have the shorter route to fall back on. Think I'll still go shorter on the ride home. I like to take another ride in the evening after it cools off a bit so I can avoid too much hot sunlight.

Very rainy, but okay. Given my commute is simple and an everyday thing (4 miles roundtrip), it's not much to write about.

brisk (30sF) and blinding sun. I totally flew, I think it's a personal best avg speed for a ride initially paced by my 6 yr old.

60F and cloudy. Love love love San Diego's famous "May Gray"

Passed by a local high school just before first bell and remembered why I usually go a different way at that time of day. Hundreds of inexperienced, hormonally addled drivers! Quite a zoo.

Sucked. Summary - At 4.50 am had an hour long discussion with my wife if we should ride in or drive in or do a mix commute. I wanted a ride in with safety net of going back in train if weather got worst, and DID NOT want to drive in. Ended up driving in In a very cranky mood today.

32 Miles RT. Teaneck to Jersey City in NJ The trains from my place to my work place let bikes on after 7 pm so I wanted to ride in later (I can offset my hours at my will).

But you are right, there will be more commuting days !! And I would rather be cranky myself, than face a cranky wife :d

And yea, we work togather !!!!

Recovery ride this morning. Nice slow and gorgeous ride in. Everything is green, the temps are decent, and my allergies have calmed down.

I plan on skipping the train ride back and instead riding 23 miles to where I parked my car at the trailhead. The only thing is that this will be the first time I have ridden in the area the motorist ran into me. I think I will be taking a different street.

Tomorrow is my endurance ride. This week's ride will be roughly 50 miles and then increasing by 10 each weekend.

What a fabulous week of commuting, dry, 40s in the morning, 60s heading home at night, gas $3.60 a gallon. I love being able to ride my bikes to work.

I am happy to be back. I will be even happier when I finish my new salsa build.
Riding a mountain bike on my commutes is getting boring.

a great ride in this morning. just an occasional drop of rain. stiff wind in my face and a bit cooler today.

a steady light rain on the ride home.

Needless to say the chillier air, the wind and the touch of rain chased all the fair weather bike pathers away. Had it pretty much to myself with an occasional hard-core runner.

Awesome ride home. I guess this was my final recovery in a sense.
Meaning that I finally rode my normal route home and I forced myself to ride down the street I was hit on. Still alive and had a blast. 73F slightly windy and sunny. Just about perfect.
