I skipped the ride yesterday due to heavy rains.

I rode this morning in the dark with a light drizzle.
One of my tail light brackets broke off during the commute (rear rack bracket), the light tumbled to the pavement but was unharmed. I'll have to repair that tonight.
Otherwise, this morning's ride was rather uneventful.

I'm still not too keen on riding in heavier rains. It's not the ride or getting wet, it's all of the extra clothing and changing that I dread.

Pouring down raining! :( The wife offered to ride me to work, I refused) :) Instead of riding my 89 Ironman Master, I switched to my 86 Prelude. Don rain jacket, switched to waterproof backpack and off to a sweet and wet morning commute!! ;)

We only passing this way one time, and from what I hear, we ain't coming back this way no more!!!;)

Busy work morning....ride in was very nice,, my summer attire was all i needed.

A colleague sent me a "stuck in traffic for 45 minutes will try to be in soon" email....so glad I am ion the bike every day.

silmarillion 10-02-12 10:16 AM

Yesterday was a literal washout. We had heavy thunderstorms all day and half the evening. The local creek is 8' over it's banks according to the news.

Today on the other hand, was really nice despite the fact I got a late start. I have to ride through 2 school zones on the way and it put me in heavy school traffic. Then I remembered why I like to leave by 6:30am. The ground was wet and I got pretty filthy, but it was nice and cool with a light breeze blowing.

Hopefully the clouds will be gone this afternoon for the ride home. :D

gecho 10-02-12 12:06 PM

I finished my lab early yesterday, so I had some extra time. Checked the weather and it showed a 40km/h wind going in the right direction, so I took the longer route home. I got knocked around a bit on the highway every time a car interrupted the crosswind. But when I turned to go with the wind I was able to fly along at between 47 and 52kph.

I could have worn shorts / short sleeves for my late morning ride today. I wasn't hot while moving, but when I stopped to lock up I started sweating like crazy. There was a strong wind was going in my direction on the ride in, but it didn't feel like giving me much of a push today.

Still no Hardyweinberg reports. :-(

Almost 50 degrees at my house this morning, and man that moon was bright. It was a beautiful ride into Dallas. I did meet a truck going the other way on my gravel section, but after reading about the rainy rides above I'm not going to complain about it.

I've been having problems with a temporary replacement rear wheel which has made riding to work exceptionally tiring these last few days because of constant problems. Today was no different since I ended up having (yet again) to leave my bike at the LBS. The weathers certainly not helping at all with high temperatures reaching 32C (90F) with 40-60% humidity making my clothes drenched in sweat even on the smallest of distances.

gecho 10-02-12 03:27 PM

I walked across the street for lunch when something about an e-bike parked on campus behind a bush caught my eye. It was plugged in! Now that's charging the smart way.

4 commutes in a row...a whole week!

Score: 30 minutes early! (though 20 minutes of that was eaten up by showering and getting ready)

Workbound: When I got up I saw a big wet looking cloud bank over the bay. (and another wet bank upslope too) I decided to skip breakfast and zoom to the office before the rain arrived, so I arrived early and beat the rain. Hooray for office shower rooms! I passed one of our facility trucks on the way in.

Homebound: Like yesterday, rain below us down at the airport, and rain above us upslope. I managed to zoom home before any of it got to my elevations. I did get a bit of road spray, though.

We had a meeting offsite so I bike-commuted the 45km (rt). The morning was a decently cool, 9C, temperature. Unfortunately, the staff meeting was held in a facility that seemed to be conserving energy because the room didn't seem to rise above 9C all morning. I was in shorts, a short-sleeved shirt and sandals (anticipating a meeting room with a decent temperature), oh and goose bumps and raised hairs on my arms and legs. My co-workers kept their coats on (I didn't bring one) and the woman in front of me went to her car for a scarf. Even this afternoon, when the mist had lifted and the moisture in the air had disappeared, the room was still not over 12C until I decided to prop open the door to the outside and let the cool air out and warm air in, only then did it get decent warm in the room.

The ride home was into the sun in a nice 19C air tempterature.

Mr. Hairy Legs 10-02-12 08:05 PM

Wow, fierce cold wind this morning... I arrived at work craving hot chocolate.

fletchh 10-03-12 04:38 AM

Wet foggy morning at 65f (18C). I couldn't keep my glasses clear, so I pulled them down a bit. Riding in wet fog is worse than a heavy rain. The rain will roll off the glasses and only need a cursory wipe every now and then, but wet fog clings to the glasses.

Telly 10-03-12 04:47 AM

Hot and moist with temps in the 90's (31C); thankfully there was light traffic and I was flying on the newly paved roads in my area!

essiemyra 10-03-12 05:44 AM

I took the car this am due to needing a hair cut after work and wanting to make it home so I can get to cribbage also this evening, also rain was predicted for this am. There was not too much rain. I would have foregone the haircut to ride my bike and still made it to cribbage. Oh well the haircut is sorely needed.

I know what you mean. I've been meaning to try putting RainX on the lenses of my inexpensive sunglasses (light tint, good for morning/evening rides) to see if that helps reduce clinging mist/fog. When I do and am able to test it, I'll post the results.

Damp but no rain. 58F/14C, calm wind. I took the MUP, and saw lots of Canada Geese floating in Lake Champlain. Also saw a very pretty blonde out for a run. :o We exchanged hellos.

sbs z31 10-03-12 07:33 AM

Another nice morning here in the twin cities,MN and I also did my best time of commuting into work on my bike. I did it in 25min 47sec with a 18.6mph avs on my 8mi route one way.

Indytona675 10-03-12 07:55 AM

55° No wind. Light sprinkles. I got soaking wet from road spray. I'm normally a fair weather commuter due to not having rain gear yet and no fenders on the Trek 1500. This was my first wet commute because the car is broke. I have discovered that all the road spray from the front wheel ends up on my shoes. Everything else was just damp but my feet were soaking wet and cold. I packed extra socks and underwear in backpack. My work uniform is at work. All in all not bad. Now I want the Surely LHT I've been eyeballing for months even more. And good rain gear. :-)

Steely Dan 10-03-12 07:59 AM

i had my first really wet commute in to work in a while. the weather radar only showed light drizzle before i left, but it built into some regular rain along my 15 mile route.

at least it wasn't downpours.

JPinWI 10-03-12 08:06 AM

Dark!...Dense fog...mid forties...no wind. Yesterday I noticed a lady in her driveway on hands and knees with a flashlight poking the pavement like she was looking for something...She was back again Today doing the same thing so I stopped and asked what she was looking for and offered to help her...She laughed. She was pulling weeds out of the cracks in her driveway so she could seal them. :)

dramiscram 10-03-12 08:07 AM

Very nice sun, medium head wind, cool 9 C, nice ride!

Notso_fastLane 10-03-12 09:41 AM

Two days in a row without my bicycle. :( Yesterday, I had a dentist appt and an appt at the lawyers (boy, do I know how to party, or what? :p) so I rode the motorcycle to work.

Today, I have to take a couple of my computers in for repair, and I'm borrowing a Sawsall from a friend for a project, so I needed the truck. I hate driving when the weather's this nice! It's chilly, but still clear and sunny.

gecho 10-03-12 10:00 AM

Fought a strong wind all the way home last night, felt a lot like riding on a flat tire with rubbing brakes. It had been cloudy all day but the sun came out just in time to be right in my eyes.

5C wind an alternating tail / head wind this morning. I was reasonably comfortable with just my longsleeve baselayer on my upper body. For the ride home I'll have to put on my jacket and maybe shoe covers since it will be windy again. The high for the next 3 days is 6C, with the temperature dropping to -10C Thursday night.

Yikes, Edmonton is balmy by comparison. This morning was the coldest since spring at 1C/33F, and sub-freezing temperatures are predicted for the next couple mornings, but still in single digits. There's a nice warming trend in the long-range forecast here. Wore long pants, windbreaker over long sleeved shirt, toe covers, and warm gloves this morning, and was quite comfortable. I saw a pedestrian wearing a parka with the hood zipped up and a scarf up to his eyes.

caloso 10-03-12 10:57 AM

Still summer in Sacramento. 100F at 5:15pm when I left the office yesterday. Nobody loves summer as much as I do, but enough is enough.

gecho 10-03-12 02:13 PM

I forgot to mention the oddest part of today's commute. I normally try to avoid running over branches and twigs, but there is one road where its unavoidable, so I just try to avoid the bigger stuff. As I was riding a twig got kicked up into my crank and mashed onto my middle chain ring by the chain. I had to stop and it was a bit tricky to remove since I need to have the various pieces aligned in the small spot where they weren't held in place by the chain.

The ride home was slow and tough. I've got to start wearing the tights I bought instead of my jogging pants. The jogging pants stretch against my upper leg increasing the resistance as I pedal.

tarwheel 10-03-12 02:22 PM

Incredibly warm and humid weather here for October. Temps were in the mid-70s at 6 am, and it was so humid my glasses kept fogging up even when moving fast downhill. It feels more like August than October.

silmarillion 10-03-12 05:26 PM

Same here, cool in the morning, but very humid. I'm ready for the cool dry fall weather...if we get any...

Kinda weird this morning, it was clear as I rode in, but I looked out the door at 10:00am and it was foggy as ever..

Bearhawker 10-03-12 07:08 PM

New tires - Vittorio Randonneur Pro ? - so a little wider, a little softer, and fall winds a little higher = +2-5 minutes each way.

It doesn't get easier, just faster. LOL

If I can get as fast on these tires as the stockers, come spring I will CRUSH my commute.

We'll see.

LOL

fletchh 10-04-12 04:29 AM

Very warm at 71f (22c). As I started on my last leg, it started to rain lightly. This was a surprise to me as it was supposed to be a picture
perfect day. 3rd day in row bringing my bike into the lobby. I was asked yesterday by one of the good guards, if I knew that I was not supposed to bring the bike in, and I said yeah, I know, but it doesn't do the bike any good to sit out in the rain. I offered to bring it into my office, which I do also in heavy rains, but there is always the urge to adjust things when it is that close to me.
