This morning was about 56-57F. Just warm enough that I was a bit chilly the first 1/2 mile or so, but rode with my basic gear, no long sleeves or tights. Should be great this afternoon: mid 70s with little or no breeze, and plenty of sunshine. (46 days straight with no rainfall in the Seattle area, we're getting close to the record!) I really want to do a long ride this weekend, but I have a lot of work to do on my motorcycle to get it ready for a track day next week.

friday commute heading in. princeton to west windsor/ princeton junction station. tired tired tired. just cant get my energy on this week. humid as the primordial soup. yuck.
btw I think the street crossing button for washington across route one must only work during certain hours? bah |
the ride in this morning was great, I did not have to worry about my light on the front I glued the mount to the bracket holding the light, it does not move now.
|
A very nice ride in and cooler at 68f (20c). Temps are supposed to go down a bit this weekend, but nothing too bad.

Extremely humid and warm again this morning, like it's been every day here for the past month. Had a nice commute but was soaked when I got to work, just from the humidity. We also got 2-3" of rain yesterday afternoon, which added to the mugginess. I made a good call on the weather yesterday, deciding to drive at the last minute after watching the morning forecast on TV. A cold front move through the area about 4:30 pm, triggering massive thunderstorms with high winds, torrential rain and flooding on many streets. I got totally soaked just walking to my truck after work and it took me almost an hour to drive home, nearly as long as my usual bike commuting time.
Fortunately, our weather is finally expected to break on Sunday, with much cooler and drier weather all of next week. That will be a welcome relief after the high heat and humidity we've had all summer. |
Stung by a bee this morning. Fleshy part of the thumb. Sure hurt. Can barely see it now.
|
Very nice ride in this morning. Traffic was lighter than usual and the traffic lights on my route were timed pretty well. Can't wait for next week when temps are supposed to drop.
|
Gave my legs a break today. Probably a good idea, since it's supposed to get into the 90s this afternoon.

FAST!
Took the race bike. More fun in hot weather. Traffic was so slow I twice went for the fast lane (left one) on a 4 lane road. Not sure how smart/safe that was, but did it anyway. Adrenaline pumping. All different to slow and easy stroll down bike track with the "mule" bike. Got honked twice for taking the lane on a 4 lane road. There were holes and debris, had to go a bit to the middle. Once by an angry lorry driver (they get annoyed when they have to switch lanes to overtake a bicycle). Once by a woman driving a caravan Opel. She was about to turn right some 50 meters ahead (just as I was), and was probably not happy I was there, don't know. She had one whole empty lane to the left, just for her. |
Slow!
Left home earlier than usual and took the scenic route, pacing myself because of the humidity (70-80%) and keeping the same pace on the way back too. One minor incident outside my house where a woman driver blared her horn because I was "obviously" driving on her private road... first time being beeped at in nearly a year! |
Nice Friday morning ride in. I started battling a sore throat yesterday afternoon, and the commutes really help to break up connection, get the blood flowing, and make me feel better. Looking forward to the weekend and the cooler temps that are coming this way. Seems like fall may be getting an unofficial start by Sunday. The ride in to work on Monday is possibly going to be in the 50sF. Don't remember the last time it was that blissfully cool around here. Good stuff...

The last two days of commuting have been on my new fixed gear wheel (disc brake on the front). Still occassionally making noob mistakes (trying to coast at speed:crash:) and there is definately some soreness as it a short (7.5miles one way), hard commute. I can tell its going to do wonders for my legs though.
|
6C, I wore a thin merino balaclava and shoe covers. My legs were very rubbery on the way home yesterday and on the way in today. I was really feeling it during acceleration and at lower cadence. But at 110 RPM my legs felt pretty good.
|
80º and humid. Listening to Leonard Elmore on my ipod. Five-thirty am, dark. Stopped for air in my back tire. Beautiful!! Can't wait for the sunny ride home this afternoon!
|
Took it easy this morning, had a tooth extracted yesterday and, due to the soreness and not wanting to disturb the precious blood clot (which, apparently leads to a painful "dry socket"), have been on an all juice diet for a day and a half. I thought it would be a good time to try a 3 day juice diet, take advantage of an otherwise bad situation and lose some weight. Well, the lack of calories really hit me hard so, the diet is out the window as of noon today. I still feel so calorie deprived that I'll probably have a slow ride home this afternnon as well-no need to push it. It looks like a cooling trend is predicted for next week. Nice...

I eat waaaay too much when I am riding regularly.
My wife drove me in to work this morning with my somewhat-less-than trusty ol' MTB. I worked a little late so there were not many other commuters and I pledged I would take it nice and easy. I have lately been riding my MTB in a single gear to prepare for a possible upcoming conversion to single-speed. But today I shifted through the 16 usable gears (3X8 with a mangled granny ring) when I needed to, and I think I may be rebuilding my relationship - healing the wounds, figuratively and literally - with derailleurs. |
Got a flat right at the beginning of the ride. And it wasn't just a puncture but my sidewall gave out on my GP4000 tires. This is what I get for switching to a road bike.
I'd have worked from home but I left my computer in the office yesterday. Company policy is that you can only use company computers on company business. |
The weather was cool this morning and a jacket was needed. I dropped a bag off the rack of my bike about two miles from work, and did not realize I dropped it even though a person in a car beeped loudly at me scaring me. If I had looked behind me I would have noticed it. I did not notice till I got off my bike at work. A guy at work took me up the road to look for it and I was lucky and found it. That made my day today. I did not lose my cellphone nor my jacket that I had taken off before the last big hill and my food for the day is in that bag. I will not go hungry now. I think I will be bungee-cording that bag to my bike from now on. Today is the first day I have used this bag in a long time.

2012 - How Was the Commute Today?
Someone on my commute must be having a bad Monday, since they needlessly honked at me at me. Didn't ruin my ride, though. :)
|
55F/13C, with an annoying headwind. Overcast, too. Overall, pretty comfortable but once I got indoors I felt a bit overheated.

Best commute weather we've had in months, with low humidity and temps in the upper 50s. I had planned to ride at an easy recovery pace after riding a metric century yesterday, but felt so good that I kept a fast pace. I'll probably pay for it this afternoon. Our perfect weather is supposed to continue all week, so I'm gonna shoot for a 5-bagger. We've had so many violent thunderstorms and so much rain lately that it's been hard if not foolish to ride many days.

Great weather this morning. Clear skies, temps in the low 60s. I started out my ride feeling good that I had worn warm-up pants instead of shorts. I ended my ride with sweaty legs.
I did try a new strategy this morning, and bungee'd my backpack to my rack instead of wearing it on my back. It worked out very well - no sweaty back = no second shower needed at work. I'm trying for my first 5-in-a-row commute this week. Hopefully my legs hold up. |
Cool out this morning so I traded the tank in for a T-shirt. Still froze.
Today was my first day that the sun didn't make it up before i got to work too. Still a great ride. I had not ridden all weekend and was getting stiff. |
Wow...I actually felt a chill coming in today. How quickly all of that heat that began way back in May can seem to dissappear.
|
Back on the regular road bike, and it feels really good. I'm still recovering so I'm staying at a lazy 15 or 16 mph, which is seductively pleasant.
|
Noticeably cooler, I don't know the temp but somewhere around 60.
I rode a little more casually this morning. Very little traffic to contend with as well. It felt really good. |
First time commuting since April. This is the first cool morning here in TX in a long time and I couldn't pass up the opportunity. I've also since moved 2 miles further away from work and I'm up to 6.2 miles now.
|
Neat head and chest cold has me stuck at home. I was excited to ride in the cooler weather today and reach the 2000 mile commuting plateau for the year, but alas. I normally ride and work through minor colds... In fact the the fresh air and exercise trend to make me feel better. But this is probably the worst cold I've had in ten years, so I'm taking it easy.
|
Warmed up fast this morning so I ditched my sweater quickly. Took a long route putting in 28km before getting to school. Legs still sore, its definitely the different riding position on my touring bike. The past few days I've encountered huge dust clouds hanging in the air outside the city, kicked up by cars on gravel roads. Its always worse when the wind dies down.
I did 91km on my road bike yesterday and felt none of the soreness from last week's commute. The riding position on my touring bike is definitely too aggressive, much more so than my road bike. I'm going to see about raising the handlebars some. |
New location, new commute. I love it. No more narrow 2 lane highway full of trucks! SOOOO Much better!
