How was the commute today? Crappy... my lower back hurts from last week's biking (out of the blue really) and I had to take the metro with the rest of the ladies (no offense ladies).

stockholm 09-10-12 11:32 PM

It was great, thank you! Crispy but still sunnu, so you know it'll be warm in the afternoon going home.

Oh, and did I mention the new bike? It's wonderful. Now I'm experimenting with basket or pannier or rack with bag attached... It's so much fun!

Sixty Fiver 09-11-12 12:10 AM

Nice ride this am, warranted a little wool as it was damp and cool and then a balmy 70 f on the ride home with a light tail wind. Tomorrow looks to be very much the same although it is supposed to be less damp.

iFold 09-11-12 12:53 AM

exicitedly put the new carbon bottle cage on the folding bike, visual checked the weather by looking outside the window- it's a bit cloudy. When I was around 100mtrs away from home, hard rain came. I went back home (to parking lot actually) put the folding bike in the car trunk and drove to work. :(

Tuesday AM commute princeton to west windsor to catch the train and then rahway station to work which is only another 1.25 miles or there abouts.
very cool this morning. should have brought a hoody. mostly uneventful. my first commute since my first century (new york city century 9/9/12). added a little jogging to my wait on the platform. hope to ride back to princeton from new brunswick (about 18 miles down 27 south). tired but happy. like a baby i took monday off to rest from sunday. again, mad props to all you long haulers!

fletchh 09-11-12 04:26 AM

A bit chilly this mornning at 52f (11c). My hands were a bit chilly going down hill, but everything else seemed ok. It is suppose to be a bit warmer
each morning, but realtive to the time of year.

making 09-11-12 04:38 AM

54F, stars out, warm afternoons, some of the nicest rides of the year the last week or two.

essiemyra 09-11-12 05:24 AM

after yesterday's fiasco with my bike bag my ride home more than made up for it. I found a twenty dollar bill on the side of the road. Scooped that up quickly and put it in my pocket, which I immediately zipped. It was my lucky day!!

The ride in this am was chilly only 45f when I rode through town. My hands were very cold. I could have used gloves, which I will have tomorrow if it is still as cold. Otherwise a very nice ride into work this am.

vtjim 09-11-12 05:47 AM

44F/7C with the sun coming up. No wind today. Nice ride. Pity it ended at work. :p

Henry33 09-11-12 06:05 AM

HI there this is my first post since I have decided not to commute to work with car ( traffic sucks ) and use my old bike.
First ride quite good I have done 8.5 km after maybe 10 years and I am pleased how fresh I feel in the Work.
really looking forward to go home ;)

tarwheel 09-11-12 06:13 AM

WTG, Henry. Pretty soon you'll be a regular.

Another ideal commuting day here in NC. Sunny day with light wind, low humidity and temps in the mid-50s morning and upper 70s afternoon. It doesn't get much better than that. This is the kind of weather I wait all year for.

dcb23 09-11-12 06:27 AM

Broke out the zip up jacket...Autumn seems to have arrived. Smooth ride in. Had a great tail wind push me home last night.

spivonious 09-11-12 09:00 AM

Another fantastic day for cycling. Took a detour to the dentist for my regular cleaning before heading to work. It added about 3 miles, but my legs feel good. I rode my dad's hybrid for the first time today. It has a much lower gearing than my road bike, but a stiffer frame, so it felt as though I was going faster. We'll see how long it takes me to get home tonight so I can compare. It also has a mirror. Wow, what a helpful tool! I'll definitely be getting one for my bike.

wilfried 09-11-12 10:41 AM

I was knocked out of commission for a few days by an untimely bout of cellulitis, so it was good to get back on the bike. This was probably the best commute I've had since I started. For just about the first time, I didn't feel like I was biking under water, and didn't arrive looking like a drowned rat. It was a crisp, cool, sunny, dry, picture perfect autumn day. Very much like Sept. 11th eleven years ago, now that I think about it. As an aside, in those days I rollerbladed, so I spent that day rollerblading around town trying to figure out what was going on.

EKW in DC 09-11-12 12:42 PM

What a beautiful day! Low fifties for the early morning ride in to work today. A little chilled with shorts and a short sleeve tee at the beginning of the morning ride in, but wanted up comfortably. Gonna have to fish out the arm warmers - though... They haven't seen action since April our maybe early May.

Flags all across the Fourteenth Street Bridge this morning in remembrance of 9/11. Stopped to take a picture. Very moving. Each flash had a sticker with the name of a victim.

Looking forward the ride to class. Nice to have afternoon temps below eighty degrees again! Hallelujah! And a slight tailwind in store, too! :-)

Ns1 09-11-12 01:01 PM

Got a tear in my wheel so I'm sidelined again until my replacements come in...sigh.

rsnelson 09-11-12 01:15 PM

While heading up a side street this morning I saw a large bird near the middle of the road. As I got closer I could see that it was a hawk and it didn't seem to be planning on moving. I pulled up next to it (within 4 ft) and saw that the hawk had a pigeon pinned. Right about then a car was coming up the street so the hawk finally took off and as soon as he took off the pigeon did too! Must have just missed the attack!

A little while later I passed a very large handicapped man in an electric wheelchair salmoning his way down the bike lane cussing at the top of his lungs! At first I thought he was yelling at me, then realized he was on the phone...

One of the more interesting commutes this morning. :D

SinX7 09-11-12 01:24 PM

Around 85f today, kind of windy heading east, but then it got a bit better heading north to work. Wind starting to get faster. So bike ride home might not be as fun going against it.

FenderTL5 09-11-12 02:57 PM

Another beautiful morning in Nashville, 57 and clear when I left the house (just before sun-up).
The ride into work was uneventful.

HOWEVER: The manager of the parking garage called at 1:30 and asked, "Did you know your bike has a flat tire?"
uh.. no I didn't. So after my 2PM meeting I rolled it up into my office and changed the tire. The tube has a split along a seam about 6" long. Nothing penetrating the tire and no puncture in the tube that I can see, just that split.

It just so happened that today, I forgot my cell phone on the charger at the house. I really hope the ride home is uneventful.
I'm still new enough at this to get spooked at flats (been commuting since May).

gecho 09-11-12 07:04 PM

With winds 60 gusting to 75kph I was expecting my ride to my afternoon class to be epic, and the return brutal, but it was neither. The trees and houses blocked a good deal of the wind making it swirl around.

I got up to 55kph on one wide road and had to stop pedaling when I caught up with a car. The average for the ride in was 29.6kph which is probably a personal best for the touring bike.

For most of the ride home I was doing around 22kph, so I'd put the effective headwind at about 30kph. I got the full brunt of the wind on the MUP, so I diverted back to the road.

I got the full blast on the side in a few spots and had to lean very hard into the wind to keep going straight.

This is the second week in a row of high winds, and more of the same tomorrow 40 gusting to 60kph.

TrekCommuter 09-11-12 07:19 PM

Great weather this morning and afternoon. Did notice a lot of cars left unattended and idling. This seems like a security concern and a waste of gas. Parents dropping off and picking up kids at the school seem to be the worst offenders as they leave their cars running in the parking lot or in front of the school. Has anyone else noticed this? I even saw a lawnmower running with no one in sight. With gas at 4 bucks a gallon, one would assume that people would be able to make some minor changes to save money. Guess not.

M.R.Serecka 09-12-12 02:08 AM

yesterday afternoon(9/11/12):
rode work to train in Rahway: uneventful.
took train to New Brunswick and then rode 27 south for just shy of 17 miles back to Princeon/home. was home by six would have to check schedule and guess ride time about 1 1/2 hours or under.
it felt really nice especially once I got around Kingston and things became greener and cooler again.

SinX7 09-12-12 02:42 AM

End of the day commute. When I was off to my girlfriend house, the street was soo flooded it got on the sidewalk. Trouser, shoes, shirt and backpack was dirty from the mud.

I need to look for a front Fender lol

fletchh 09-12-12 04:27 AM

Another nice morning 55f (13C), although the crazy driving has continued. I was in the right lane stopping for a red light and a car behind me swerved around me and blew through the light. Coming back through this intersection in the afternoon is no different. Drivers blow through the red light often, and making a left out of the side road is similar to playing russian roulette.

essiemyra 09-12-12 05:21 AM

It was a very nice uneventful ride in this morning. Though I did break out the gloves as the temp was 45f when I left the house this morning. I also had shorts and a jacket, so I guess it depends on what part of you needs warmth. It is supposed to get up to the low 80's this afternoon so the ride home will be a lot warmer.

vtjim 09-12-12 05:54 AM

48F/9C and sunny. Short sleeves today. (Got too hot in the neon jacket at 44F yesterday.) It's nice to be warm-blooded.

Got about 1 block from work and a traffic enforcement dude intercepted me (he was on foot at an intersection) and said the road ahead was closed. Ugh. I said, "Sidewalk okay?" He said, "Oh, yeah, just be careful." :D I only needed about half a block on the sidewalk, then I was at work. No biggie. Lots of road paving going on. It's super-smooth for bicycles. Win.

dcb23 09-12-12 06:24 AM

Quite, cool, still morning. These are good days for riding.

mjw16 09-12-12 06:26 AM

Nice and cool, really felt invigorated compared to July/August weather. I probably could have used arm warmers or, a long sleeved shirt this morning but, I pushed hard and warmed up quickly so, I was pretty comfortable. We're heading to the beach on Friday, my favorite part is the hotel's hot tub. My goal is to push extra hard the rest of the week so as to get sore enough to really take advantage of the hot tub. I may also bring my new 89' road bike as well to get in some easy miles and get accustomed to it, I'd like to be comfortable enough with it so I can ride it on the Seagull Century in October.

EKW in DC 09-12-12 07:00 AM

Somber moment of reflection on the ride from work to grad school class last night. Flags were still on the 14th St Bridge, and the Pentagon was in clear view as I pedaled towards VA. Took that minute or so to think about what that scene was like eleven years ago (I want in the country aye time of 9/11)

Generally a really nice ride to class. My cold is still taking something out of me, so I couldn't go quite as fast as I would have liked, but it was a nice ride nonetheless.

Absolutely gorgeous this morning. High fifties. Left before the sun wad up, so hot some good use out of the dynamo headlight and later enjoyed the sunrise over the Potomac as I pedaled on to work. Glad we're out of summer for the most part. From now until the end of November is my favorite time of year for riding. Cool and crisp are always nice for bike riding!

aquateen 09-12-12 08:15 AM

when I left at 6 this morning it was in the low 50s and I immediately regretted not wearing my full finger gloves. New pannier worked great today, no heel strike problems. It's a Transit Torrent that I found at Performance marked down to $40 in a clearance bin :)
