HIt those light sprinkles coming in...also had to give a stare down to an impatient driver turning left in front of me. Left my badge in my helmet which I put in my shelf...spent about 20 minutes retracing my steps all over the office to find it.

I had to take the motor vehicle today as I have an eye doctors appointment in the middle of the day. So I will go from work and come back after the appt. I can also stop at another store while out and get another errand done. I am not happy about being in the motor vehicle as tomorrow I have to take it again. We are leaving at 11:30 tomorrow to head up north for the long weekend, I will need to get home asap so as to leave before all the traffic begins. I want to enjoy the long weekend, but I want to bike even more.

Considering the last couple of weeks of cool (2C-8C) rides in the mornings, this morning's 14C was actually too warm. Slight dampness on the road from last night's light showers so it was humid too. However, this weekend, Canadian Thanksgiving, is predicted to have a bit of snow flurries as Saturday night/Sunday morning dips to -1C. The rest of this week and next are forecast for low morning temperatures, 0C to 2C and daily highs of 7C to 10C so I'll need to be prepared for the cool weather rides in both directions.

57F, very nice ride. A lot of debris in the bike lane today. from glass to dead animals to a cell phone (the only thing I know of I hit). Nice ride in, I think it rained yesterday afternoon (my day off) maybe it washed the stuff out.
|
Ah, this is a tricky one. At work, they are moving me to another room. Okay, so I had bring some luggage to move my stuff to the other room. But, I want ride by bike too. How did I do that? Genius! ;) I put the bike rack on my truck, loaded up my 79 Raleigh, put the stuff I needed for moving in the truck. Got to work early. Did the move, un hitched my bike and called my wife to get a ride to come get the truck. I will be riding the return leg of my commute this evening. ;) BTW, slight rain coming down, makes it even better! ;)

Great commute this morning with mild temps in low 70s but lower humidity than the past few days. I followed my own advice and got up when my alarm went off even though radar showed showers approaching. I missed a commute on Monday after the radar tricked me into going back to sleep, and then the rain fizzled out before it ever got here. Same thing happened today except I went ahead and got up and was rewarded with a rain-free ride.

Warmer but still in the 60s. Very humid with a light rain at times.
Overall, a nice ride in. Traffic was a bit heavier than normal, and I got buzzed again by a guy towing a trailer. Not cool, dude. |
Cold this morning, temps were reading in the mid 40s. I had to put the heavier layers on, and my hands were still a bit chilly. We're having unseasonably dry weather here, though, and I am making the most of it!

my car shut off on me this morning as i was about to merge on the interstate... luckily got to the shoulder backed up the sholder and drove home. Got the bike and rode to work...probably should have done that in the first place. other than being late it was good ride traffic was lighter at 8:30 instead of 7:20.

I worked from home this morning until about noon. When it occurred to me that I should dig the carrots out of the garden before they freeze. Pulling, removing the tops and cleaning took a few hours.
By the time I left for class it was still only 3C. I wore my lighter pair of tights and my jersey under my jacket and was warm enough. The low for tonight is -11C, so I'll have to wear my thermal tights in the morning and bring something lighter for the ride home. |
Great ride in, I was strong the whole way despite the cold (39F when I left at 5:40am). The ride home was long, windy, and felt colder because of the summer clothing I was wearing. Dang that sucked, but I'm now 1000 miles past yearly goal!

Here's what I felt like: http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=276635 No snow for me yet but apparently, Saturday night/Sunday morning. A cool 10C ride in. My legs had no energy, they were still under the sheets just pretending to pedal as if in a dream. Some leaves on the 1km dirt road portion of the commute which actually was pretty good because that section is unlit and the leaves reflected back the light from my 2 lights nicely, outlining the dirt road quite well. It is just 1 lane wide with 5-10m trees on either side preventing most of the minimal light from the dawn sky from reaching the road: the illumination of the leaves was welcome. Next week's forecast is predominantly 0C-2C mornings with 7C-10C afternoons so I'll need to bundle up. Other than the one day on the weekend, no other forecast for snow. |

Glad I didn't run this over. Probably would have gotten a flat...

Great ride this morning with cooler temps and much lower humidity than we've had all week. I stretched out the ride an extra mile since it felt so nice out. Next week is looking like we'll get our first real cold snap of the fall with forecasted lows in the 40s. Can't wait. I love the cooler temps.

Beautiful weather this morning. I think I startled a jogger even though I moved to the opposite side of the road to pass her. The squirrels are getting more suicidal.
|
Added 10 miles to my trip on the way home last night, making it 36 miles for the day. This morning was really cold --56 degrees. Well, it was cold for Cali.
|
An amazing synchronicity: a cyclist I see almost every morning for the last couple of years, any weather - he's just riding around at the same time as my usual commute - just got hired at the company I work for! Out of all the companies and businesses in this area (22,000 in just Alpharetta GA), what are the odds of that?
There must be some hidden strand of correlation. Maybe my employers like engineers who tend to think out of the box, just a guess but what a coincidence! |
awesome!, iv been sick all week but still made really good time, other than a tree down on the Path it was all good.
|
A chilly start to the day at -3C/27F, kinda foggy. It's been a while since I've ridden in these temps and I'm not used to it. Fingers and toes were a little cold by the time I got downtown. Next week is forecast to be a bit warmer.
|
Checking the current conditions after class yesterday, I saw that what I wore in would be inadequate for the ride home. So I added a merino sweater I keep in my locker to wear around campus and was comfortable.
It didn't get as cold as forecast last night, and it was -4C for the ride in, my water bottle didn't even start to freeze. I used my thermal tights, shoe covers, wool gloves and balaclava and was sufficiently warm. With all the water main breaks lately, I need to start watching for water that turns to ice overnight. Yesterday someone was asking me about the bike cage since they also want to bike through the winter. |
I'm cheating, because I didn't really commute today. Instead I took the day off to visit my daughter at college for the weekend. So I started my day off on a ride in Williamsburg, taking the colonial parkway from Williamsburg to Yorktown and back. I think I have a small sense of what it must be like to ride the cobbles of Roubaix. The best moment of the ride was when I turned back on to the asphalt paved road, and stopped vibrating.

Beautiful day, if blustery. I made it a long day by riding all the way home from Salem, 44 miles total on my beloved back roads.
|
My legs were kind of heavy on my way home today so I made a wrong decision and tried to cross one of the intersections like a pedestrian, from the lower left corner to the upper left corner on the pedestrian crossing lines. There was a car approaching toward me from the opposite direction trying to make a right turn (for him) toward me while I started crossing but the car stopped at his stop sign so I resumed crossing this one-way street. Wrong decision. I tried to abandon the bike to escape - I was going too slow to pedal away - but my feet got stuck in the clipless pedals so I fell with the bike. Luckily the driver finally noticed and came to a stop about 3 feet from me. I wasn't angry when this happened because mistakes happen and I was unhurt, plus I wasn't crossing the street properly. By the way my front flasher light was on even thought it was still plenty bright. I didn't get angry but the driver apparently got pissed (at what?!) and threw both hands in disgust accompanied by an enraged facial expression. And as soon as I got up and crossed to the other side, he floored it and sped off. Should I start carrying a few raw eggs?

Beautiful warm day here in NYC. I was able to make pretty good time going in on the bridge, not that riding fast actually gets me to the office any quicker. It was dark on the way home and my bright disco strobe keeps everyone out of the way, particularly in the east Village on the 2nd Ave bike lane. I was really cruising once I hit Brooklyn too. I'd have done an extra lap or two of Prospect Park (3.4 miles per lap) but I was also carrying my heavy laptop in my backpack. At least I don't carry my lock, that gets left on the street by my office. Overall a really nice day and commute.
|
Foggy morning, maybe 300-400 feet of visibility. By the time I got home I was covered in a light layer of dew. Was pretty fun to ride in, just had to keep my eyes peeled on the road more then usual.
|
46° with a steady, light rain.
Otherwise it was pleasantly uneventful. |
First really cold morning. 40 degrees when I left around 8. I'm glad I got that UnderArmour mock turtleneck at the discount store.
|
Overslept about 45 minutes...overcame the urge to drive in and bundled up for my first sub 40 degree ride in...plenty warm with my plastic bagged wool socks, lined sweat pants, mittens and stocking cap...Nearly got creamed at a T intersection...I was trying to beat a long line of cars coming from the East and had to brake at the last minute to avoid a stealthy car coming from the West. My bad! Be careful out there!
