Hang in there, Hardy. Get well soon.

That makes my minor equipment issue seem really minor!

When I started out this morning, I was getting a noise everytime I pushed down on the left pedal. I tightened up the bolt that connects the pedal to the drivetrain, and it went away. 2 miles later, it started again. When I got to work, I tightened it back up as hard as I could. I hope that solves the problem, otherwise it might be a trip to the Bike Dr.

The ride itself was otherwise beautiful - fresh legs and perfect weather.

Bikes: Surly Crosscheck

54F when I left home. Lots of people out, joggers, several commuters, one drunk couple staggering home. Several people even said good morning when I went by, gonna be a nice day.

Harry, good luck and best wishes for a good recovery.

A nice day in today, and a bit chilly at 62f (17c). August has been nice to this area with cooler temps, and after a brutal July, it is welcomed. Of course these days, you just never know from year to year anymore.

My commute was decidedly less eventful. 60F/15C and sunny. Light traffic. Got trapped at all three (red) lights on my route. Guess it was my lucky day.

I had to stop again today and feed the cats at my daughter's house. So that makes my commute more effort. Having to climb three flights of stairs. The good thing is I can lock my bike inside on the first floor so I dont have to carry that up any stairs. Other than that it was a quiet commute. Nice cool temp but overcast morning.

Get well soon Hardy.

Coolest commute yet for this Summer. Got stuck next to a cop at two lights...amazing how many bikes just rolled right through the red in plain sight.

Bikes: 80's Bianchi Veloce, 2011 Bianchi Volpe (RIP), 2005 KHS XC-104,

Glad you're ok as well.

Commute this morning was 46F. It was a little depressing because I had to commute in on the Mountain Bike, instead of my Bianchi Volpe....

But my new frame will be in soon. It was still beautiful.

Terrible commute: I slipped down the stupid 3 inch drop from the road to gutter at 25 mph which flatted my front instantly, didn't react fast enough, over the bars and finally messed up the shoulder roll resulting in a broken clavicle. Stupid, start to finish.

I don't want to jinx myself, but all I've ever had is cracked ribs, and those weren't from riding my bike. Just road rash from bike riding, about 30 years ago.

Hardy: dang, sorry about your wreck. I hope you heal up well and her insurance pays for everything. Stuff like that makes me appreciate my rural commutes even more.

I shouldn't have broken anything on that fall. Apart from being too old to hit the pavement at that speed, I've lapsed in my training for falls and rolls, and neglected upper body work which might have cushioned it some. It was completely avoidable and I was careless when looking back in the first place. To me it's a wake-up call: don't only bike and neglect other physical training.

On the bright side, my helmet never hit the ground and no other damage occurred.

Yes. I'm several levels shy of black belt but even at that level you're trained enough for falls. It's been about 5 years since I've stepped foot in a dojo, apparently too long. I hit directly on the back of my shoulder - if my timing had been better I'd have been fine.

Uneventful commute for me this morning and hopefully it will stay that way. Forecasters are calling for a 40% chance of showers or thunderstorms, so I have a 60% chance of making it home dry. We've had rain in the forecast nearly every day since mid-July with no end in sight but at least the farmers here are having good year. I'm holding off riding my newest commuter bike until it either dries out or I get fenders installed, and that's waiting on some of Sheldon's "fender nuts" to arrive.
