Great ride this morning with a nice tailwind and cool temps. That means I'll be fighting a headwind this afternoon, but you can't have it all. The weather has been very dry here for the past couple of months, making commuting much easier. I should be able to top 5,000 miles commuting and 9,000 miles total riding for the first time in a year by the end of December, if the favorable weather continues. Unfortunately I probably won't be able to ride much the last week in the month due to holiday traveling.

I thought I might catch you when you said earlier that you might stop for the year but you've racked up a lot of miles! I have an easier goal, to finish up December without driving to work since I have a streak going at 45 work days.

Yesterday had both a good and bad moment on my ride. Bad part; was almost run over while going through an intersection. Duffus was looking a woman crossing the street, to his right, and turning left through the intersection. Nearly tooke me out. ^#%#@
But later on the ride, I decided to see if I could find an alternate route through a redisential area, rather than use the bike lane along a major Blvd. I indeed did find a nice route, along quite, wide streets. Cut out about 2 miles of busy, rush hour traffic on a 4 lane road, for some safe, quite, pretty neighborhood streets. :)

Haven't been commuting much to my high school teaching job this school year-- back at grad school several towns away.

Classes have been over for a few weeks, and I'm back at it! I've only driven once this week, and even skipped the train ride segment on my way home on Tuesday.

Boy did I miss riding!

Studying from home again today, probably tomorrow too. Reading books on my ipad can be annoying at school due to the overhead fluorescent lighting and less than comfortable chairs. A few days off riding will probably do me good.

Heavy mist and mid 50's. Explored a new roundabout route to work. Too much traffic, unfortunately.

rankin116 12-06-12 03:01 PM

Sunny and mid 20s this morning. I haven't been wearing a face mask at all so my glasses aren't fogging, which is nice. Only issue I'm having are keeping my toes warm. I'm concerned about this because the temps are going to keep dropping, with the average lows in Jan and Feb around 15. That could be a problem for me.

Great ride this morning with another tailwind commute. I had planned to ride my "fast" commuter bike but the weather guys changed the forecast overnight from sunny to cloudy with 30% chance of rain, so I took one of my bikes with fenders. Despite the heavier weight, I still had a fast commute because I was motivated. Topped 5,000 miles commuting YTD this week, my highest annual mileage ever with 3 weeks to go in 2012.

arsprod 12-07-12 08:21 AM

45F, rain and fog. Looks like my old Columbia Storm Dry jacket is now barely a Drizzle Dry jacket. As I was lamenting the failure of my jacket I passed a big wreck, then heard the traffic report on the radio. I'd rather be wet and serene then dry and frustrated!

wphamilton 12-07-12 08:36 AM

Dry and 45 degrees, just right for blue jeans and taking it easy - I averaged about 16 mph (according to my new toy, a Blackberry with the "Fitness Tracker" Strava app.)

By pure coincidence I noticed a sort of milestone in my log: 1000 bicycle commutes (one way) logged at my current job, since June 2010! That's just over 10,000 miles.

21degF, calm, red sky, red in the morning sailors warning. Nice Ride. Expecting some snow for tonights commute.

jeffpoulin 12-07-12 08:45 AM

-4C (25F) with heavy snow. I put the marathon winters on yesterday, which helps on the ice, but they're not so great on loose-packed and rutted snow.

I hear you, I use the Nokian W106's now which are more aggressive but still provide low rolling resistance.

It was good except for a goofy b!?@h that squeezed between her car and the edge of the road. I gave her the finger! What? It made me feel better! :)

SPECELIZEDRIDER 12-07-12 09:19 AM

Today's commute was good I carried about 50LBS of gear, a record for me and made the trip of 15 miles in just over an hour, which I think is good considering it is mostly up hill. Henderson to Seven hills.

Nice day today (for December), about 40f, and no wind. Forcast is for rain later.

New wiring for front lights has survived a week!

She doesn't know how to share, most of the time I notice that is when their preoccupied with their phone or something and didn't even notice you. I had a guy last night pull over at a store and came to me and said, "I love your blinky light, I could see that 3/4 of a mile away, you are visible" But yes, being squeezed is bad, I can almost anticipate when that's about to happen by watching my mirror.

15 miles in just over an hour with that kind on weight!, Your an animal, hats off to ya.

I needed to drive today (and unfortunately, several days next week). I actually paid attention to my drive time today, and door to door, including the rather long walk from the parking lot to my building, it takes 1-2 minutes longer to drive than it does to bike! I guess having to change clothes when I get to work by bike just makes it a touch longer, but I still think that's kinda amusing.

I also have Ice Spiker Pros on my mountain bike, but I use them mostly for weekend singletrack. I'd love to buy a fat bike some day.

BTW, where in Maine do you live? I grew up in Brunswick.

I found this out from Endomondo - accidentally left it on one day while driving. My average speed driving was 9 mph (bike is 12-14 mph) :)

Mr. Hairy Legs 12-07-12 08:33 PM

Wow what a tailwind today on the ride home (around 25 mph)... my fastest commute since September.

I'm in Winterport, I agree those fat bikes are something else, love to have one of those someday too.

50f/10c and Foggy!!!!!!!!! I stayed off the busier city streets. Almost got "run" over by a jogger on the bike lane...drive me crazxy. I am a runner but I really really wish they's stop doing that.

droy45 12-10-12 07:29 AM

26F, one inch new snow, freezing rain early this morning, took the car instead. Cars off the road everywhere, glad I didn't cycle because afraid of getting run over by a runaway vehicle. Will resume tomorrow.

FenderTL5 12-10-12 09:03 AM

heavy rains this morning, upper 50s (F) for the temp

It was my first day back after taking a week of vacation, it was a mental struggle until i actually got on the bike..

dramiscram 12-10-12 09:40 AM

first real winter commute with snow and ice and everything. I took 1h24 to go my 27.15 kms instead of my usual hour and I'm exhausted but very proud of myself. The bad news is that I have to go back tonight!!!

arsprod 12-10-12 10:04 AM

37F with stiff crosswind, I overdressed (it's supposed to get colder and snow this afternoon), and the little screw thing on the presta valve broke off after filling my front tire (damn cheap nashbar tubes) so not a great start to the week. Then at about mile 9 I smelled someone burning wood in a fireplace and remembered why I do this... ahhhhh
