Agreed with fellow DC area commuters... It's been a winter of good commuting weather and today was no exception. Lady night, too, for that matter, and that sunset was amazing. If I hadn't been in such a rush to get home, I would have stopped, fished out my phone, and snapped a photo, though I know it would not have truly captured the beauty of the colors and the clouds.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Getting pretty tired of the sub-zero temperatures and gale force winds every day. What a horrible month! We had such a nice January, too.

I rode to work all four days this week. My ride home today was early, just a couple of hours after my ride to work.
Funny how something as simple as an MRI can change your life. Yesterday's results show that I have a cratered rotator cuff in my left shoulder. There are three tears, surgery is likely. My employer has maintained its no "light duty" policy, and put me on medical leave. It will likely take me a couple of months to get to see a VA orthopedic doctor, more time before the surgery, then rehab time afterwards. For the foreseeable future, my bike commuting is over. At this point, I'm glad I ride recumbents. If I had to lean on the handlebar of an upright, I'd likely be off the bike for a while. As it is, I'll be riding, just not commuting.
Adios, amigos.

Ride here was chilly (~40*F, ~14*C) with almost no wind. I was glad to be able to ride, period, considering the forecast called for rain (looks like I'll be riding back in it, unless I stay late to do some work at the office). I tested out my new Garmin Edge 305, which worked wonderfully, but also shows just how embarrassingly short my commute is (on the plus side, now that I know just how minimal it is, I can start adding other rides throughout the week to compensate).

My ride from the west was a little colder than the other DC commuters. High 20's on the way in (7:00 hour). But a mild winter overall, no doubt. This was my first commute in a week, always good to be back on the bike. Wish I could commute more, but the schedule doesn't always allow.

Sunny, 55 degrees at 7:00 AM. No wind for a change.
Rode and chatted with another commuter for a bit. That's a very rare thing around here.

Snow, 16 F, wind N 18 gusting to 29mph, about 3-4inches snow blowing and drifting. Most uncomfortable commute of the year so far.

I hope things work out quicker than what you describe.
I'll miss seeing your posts in the mileage thread. When I see them, I usually go, "Damn that Bud Bent. He passed me again!"

7 degrees F with a 20 gusting to 30 mph headwind and snow flurries for 9 miles in the AM.
A balmy 14 degrees--with a tailwind--going home.

I had to turn my light on, because something was slowing me down and it was starting to get late. Oh, it was stopping to take my windbreaker off. Is that good for an honorable mention?

70* and sunny today. Couldn't have been a nicer day. This wrapped up my first 5 days commuting.

Very hot today, but clear sky made it easy to ride.
Service Alfine 8 again using Shimano oil, But from what i see fully synthetic oil will do the same as this one.(With much cheaper cost.)

37*F with a 28mph headwind that made it feel like 28*F, and slowed me down so much I was wondering if I had a flat tire or something. Was hoping to get a nice long ride in later today, but it's going to have to warm up a bit first.

Nah. EAA is the badass. Cold you can add layers for, but plowing through snow is a PITA that gear can't fix.
And yeah, a tailwind makes a huge difference in comfort. It's been a really mild winter up here; I'm not complaining.

It was 1F this morning and 13F on the way home. I was glad for no clouds but my eyelashes where freezing to my eyebrows both ways. And I actually liked the morning commute better there were less cars and no wind unlike on the way home.

Had to go into work early this morning (a Sunday!). Looked quickly at my phone for the temp and thought it said it was 30F but it turned out it was less than half that. By the time I got downtown it had "warmed" to 15F. Only problem was I simply didn't dress for it. Funny how the mind works though- I kept trying to figure out why my brake cable was so frozen, why my beard had icicles, why I felt so stiff and tight getting going all at 30 degrees!?
Ride home might have been a bit warmer but fierce cold wind in my face the whole ride. Took the streets route in (a little shorter) but it was so quiet cause of Sunday- nice.

Cold one today, around 25 or so. Slight headwind but dry...got the extra layers on and rolled in no problem.
