Chilly this morning with 10C. Still a nice day.

pretty pleasant morning commute, with decent temps and not too excessive humidity. Made good time, and I was only passed by one other cyclist :-)

However, I cannot say that yesterday's commuting experience was as pleasant. My twenty mile ride to work was fine - a bit warm, but overall decent. However, I had to leave work early, and in the interest of saving time, I took the bike on metro (which is permitted during non-rush). Exited the metro with no incident, and began the super-simple, 1.2 mile ride from the metro to my home. All was going swimmingly, despite some dog walkers who don't seem to understand that extend-a- leashes have no place on an MUP or other shared trail. However, I got to a 'crossroad' where two MUP's meet, and as I began my left turn, my bike slid beneath me as if I was on ice. In fact, it was a slightly damp surface, but probably covered with a very fine layer of silt, and possibly some sort of mildew, algae or other growing stuff. I have fallen like that once before, over 20 years ago, while in college, when I took a similar turn on dead leaves. I wasn't going terribly fast, but obviously it was fast enough to overcome my tires' traction on this surface. As my lesson - -I knew the path was somewhat damp, but it didn't seem nearly damp enough for this to have happened, and probably wouldn't have been absent the muck. My lesson, then, is 'don't assume a damp surface in a shady spot is just 'damp'. I'm used to this on wooden bridges, and I give them tons of respect (I go slow!) but on asphalt, this was new.

Fortunately, other than a small spot of road rash on my elbow, and some excessive dirt on my left pannier, all is well.

Okay, it's not technically a commute, but on days when I work from home, I usually go for a 20km ride before work. This morning, I did a route I haven't done in a few weeks. Part of the route is on a MUP that runs through the city's river valley - beautiful trail and good climbs out of the valley. Problem is, there's some construction in the area with trucks and equipment driving along and over the trail. They've built a temporary boardwalk over the trail to protect it, but whoever built the boardwalk obviously aren't cyclists, as there's a large section where the boards run parallel to the direction of travel for trail users. The gaps between the boards are wide enough to swallow a narrow road bike tire, and that actually happened to me. Thankfully, I was aware of the potential danger, and was riding very slowly, so I didn't fall off my bike, and the wheel wasn't damaged. Still, it made me irate enough to write a letter to my city Councillor and provincial representative, as well as make the local bicycle commuter society aware of the problem. Grr.

Very pleasant this morning. This afternoon however will be frying pan hot.

Beautiful ride home this morning. 48 degrees and sunny sweater was almost too much by the 5 mile mark. Two moose grazing on the golf course at Russian Jack.

I've been lazy - and haven't been getting enough sleep. I haven't commuted via bicycle at all this week...and today is my "Friday".

I ran 8 miles of hills yesterday after work with a buddy, and my legs were dead this morning so I took the motorcycle. Riding gives me more cardio stamina than running did, because I can do it longer. But the running still wears my legs out worse, probably the pounding.

You know it is daytime light out at 5:40 am??? I get out early so I can run my lights, and it seems I can't get out early enough. I am out that house at 5:25 am.. It is almost light out. At 5:40 is it completely light!! dammnnn!! The first leg of my commute was sweet as always. Getting ready to get off early and jump into the 2nd leg..

But, yeah - here in the SF Bay Area, it's around 5:45 or so.

In that case, spin in a lower gear.

Consider it a recovery week.

Cold and rainy... But at least I had the wind in my back, so it was kind of short and bittersweet anyways, if you know what I mean.

A very nice morning commute in, not to warm and a nice sky blue above. I ended up adding a mile and a half in on my ride home yesterday. I think I will either do the same ride again home today or go the ride that adds four miles in. I am not sure. It depends on what kind of time I have this afternoon.

Commutes have been very nice last two days. I finally figured I adjusted my rear brakes a little too fine the other day and that was actually resulting in some pad rub. Fixed that and now all is well...(except I broke my glasses in two last night and I am going on a three week overseas trip on Tuesday!)

Well, half a commute is better than none. I rode into work this morning but plan to catch a ride home with my wife this afternoon. Forecasters are calling for severe thunderstorms here all afternoon and into the evening, so I was initially planning to drive today. But the weather was OK this morning and my wife is meeting me downtown for dinner this evening, so I'll just catch a ride with her -- and figure out how to get my bike home later.

A very nice ride in with heavy traffic. The temps are lovely 71f (22c). Storms are predicted to come ealier than expected, so it will be a wait and see afternoon.

Today was day 2 of commuting. Yesterday I took the heavy steel singlespeed Dutch like bike, and today took in the aluminium road bike. I cut my time in half today, but needed to shower once I got here. Thankfully we have a full lockerroom with showers, and an indoor bike garage that security looks over. Logged about 25 miles so far, which is better than the 0 I would have done had I taken the train.

About 60 degrees, cloudy, bike shorts were in order. First leg of the commute sweet. I am getting faster too, I can see that!! I am taking hills quicker and with less effort. Also, I found out, when I am taking a lane, don't half step.. A section of road where I usually take the full lane, I moved over a little to let cars by, and sure enough, they passed me within a foot. Won't happen again.. IMO, communting is an ongoing learning process that never stops..

I haven't been on a motorcycle this year!!

This morning: 56°, misty the first half, then a light rain.

The ride was uneventful except a taxi turned right on red immediatly in front of me. He saw me coming but misjudged my speed. It was downtown, with a slight downhill, so I was cruising at the speed-limit. I could tell he/she misjudged by the way they stepped on it to get out of the way after turning.

I've ridden in by bike 4 days this week (Monday was a holiday) and 4 days last week. I drove my son to school on the last day of school.

on monday it was 90 degrees and i was sunbathing by the pool, WTF?

Rode to the gym and then to work from there. Both trips it was a windy downpour and 90% of the trip was on the busiest road in my city, but it's fun to get out in that stuff for the challenge of it. Unfortunately I don't have fenders on my new commuter (early 80's Fuji S12-S Ltd) but I put a rack on it yesterday and that did help a bit. I ordered the fenders a few minutes ago... Live and learn.

Only my third commute this year, but now I'm running out of excuses. My new commuter bike is still waiting on one magical part before I can really ride it regularly, but this week, Sixty Fiver fixed up my steel road bike, so it's ready for fair-weather commuting. And boy oh boy, today is the definition of fair weather. 12C, almost no wind (a bit of a tail wind to help me along a couple busy roads), sunny...just a perfect morning for cycling.

Got up early because I wanted to get some miles in before it gets blazingly hot this afternoon. Rode to the office and dropped my backpack in my bike locker. Headed out to the bike trail for some non-motorized traffic intervals. Either a bear or a human a-hole dumped garbage cans and broke bottles all over the trail. Thought I'd managed to avoid the glass but back in midtown I heard a whiss-whiss-whiss. My front tire was getting soft, but the sealant I'd put in these tubes was doing its job. Gingerly rode the remaining few blocks back to the office. I guess I'll have to replace that tube before starting home at the end of the day, but no biggie.
