Cold with rain showers, but with the rain stopping and the sun popping out on both my morning and evening commutes. Loaded down with groceries on the evening commute, and having a strong tailwind help push me home, life is good.

The commute was sweet, as always. In fact, last year, I was commuting on the bicycle and the motorcyle 5 days a week, alternating. This year, the motorcycle has been parked in my garage the whole year!! The bicycle has taken over..

Don't get me wrong, my motorcycle gives a charge just by looking at it, and to ride it, it is even sweeter..As you can see..

https://www.cehoward.net/pretty4.JPG

But, it loses out to any of the bikes in my sig!!

This is the one I am on today. I hit close to 30 mph on the flats too..

https://www.cehoward.net/mastexp69.jpg

On my way to work...

Tell me life isn't sweet!!

Bikes: Surly Crosscheck

74F I think when I tried to leave home the first time. I had aired up my tires and lubed my chain on my Surly last night before I went to bed, got up this morning and the front tire was flat. My second in the last two years. Anyway, I switched my panniers over to my newest and hit the road. I did not ride yesterday so my legs were much more rested than usual for a Friday. My newest is my fast bike. And I had a great tail wing. I only regret I had to stop at the school I teach at today, which is withing a tenth of a mile midway on my normal daily commute. Normally it take about 33 minutes to pass the school from my house, today it was about 24 minutes. It woudl have been an all time record commute if I had went the whole way. Tailwinds are beautiful, but they do make you weak, I feel weaker already.

No work today, so no commute. But yesterday was another brutal headwind on the ride home.

What a colossal wood screw I ran over today...lodged all the way flush in the rear tire. Did a quick 15-minute change, got all messy, stopped at the bike shop for a new tube, got stuck in traffic because I was already late...but made it in.

Much nicer ride home.

SNOW in Tahoe today so no riding, but yesterday was brutal with 50 mph gusts by the Lake. Kept peddaling and peddaling and felt like I wasn't moving an inch. Glad to have a day off

Bikes: See my sig...

Taught a class on cycling to a group of 3rd graders this morning and it was a beautiful ride in as I left at 9 and missed most of the rush hour traffic and the weather was perfect.

Many were more interested in the fact my bike folded in half and had weird looking (spd) pedals than how drivetrains works although there were exceptions and the most interested students were the girls.

One really impressed me as she some really excellent knowledge of bicycles and discovered she has already done rides of 160 km with her father.

I was 0 for 5 this week. One day I had a concert after work, one day I went to a remote site, and one day I worked from home. The other 2 days it was raining hard. At least on the day I stayed home I squeezed a 20 mile or so ride in, which is the same distance as the r/t commute.

I just went a tad over a dozen miles. It was freezing (sub 60 degrees F). I actually had to wear long pants & gloves.

I rode to some local school to jog on the grass. That's not really commuting I guess. Later, I rode to the bank to exchange my coins for bills. $200 I had. All those coins were heavy, enough to make acceleration feel slower. I saw a new pot hole emerge on one of my regular roads.

I would love that weather. It's 80-85F here, and I'm sweating. 55-60 is ideal in my opinion.

Did my normal commute to work, and the ride in tomorrow and Monday will be extra nice because of the lack of traffic.

It was 90 something when I left work. Stopped at Centennial Park for a little live music.

Now at home with an ESB to take the edge off the day.

Get a load of this.

Today my 9-year-old daughter and I were riding our bikes in downtown Santa Fe. We were in slow-moving traffic going through 4-way stops. I could hear that there was a big vehicle behind us, but I made no effort to move over because it would not have done that driver any good (he just would have gotten to the stop sign a few seconds faster if we had), and we weren't breaking any laws. Eventually we moved into a right-turn lane at a stop sign. The truck pulls up next to us. Turns out it was a fire engine. A firefighter sticks his head out the window and says, "You really should ride on the side of the road and you should move over for us." I just gave him a "thumbs up," but my thumb was not the finger I felt like raising.

Felt hotter coming home today, temp at the bank said 93° as I passed.
Other than that, very quiet downtown.
I know I'm not the only one who commutes on the weekend.
One more day for my week.

Quite pleasant, there wasn't much traffic today due to Memorial Day. I turned one corner from a stop with a slight ascent a bit too sharp just nicking my pedal a hair.

Very nice ride. Almost nobody else on the road due to Memorial Day. Beautiful partly cloudy weather, dark blue sky.

Did some maintenance yesterday including brake adjustments and removing the middle support from my rear fender...it was rubbing and the fender seems just fine w/out it.

Warm comimg in but nice to be back in the saddle.
