I encountered quite the wildlife today: two rabbits, a daytime salmon, a ninja salmon, squirrels, and ducks. Squirrels are becoming common. Since I never encountered any rabbits in the day, I'm guessing they go out at night. The salmons, on the other hand, are strolling about at all hours. I locked my bike at a sign post and upon my return noticed sprinklers were getting my bike all wet. When I left home, it was 85-90F, and I was sweating a lot. Heading back home at night, it was an okay 70-75F.

Very warm this mornning at 71f (22c). Planning for a very hot day of 98f (36c); low gears and easy riding. The heat you guys out west have been feeling has finally arrived here, but hopefully, for a short stay.

A very nice ride this am, it is supposed to get much warmer this afternoon. I am thinking a slower ride home than usual. The good thing is a lot of the ride is shady.

Hot weather arrived in NC just as summer officially began, which is unusual compared to the past few years when it started heating up in May. We had our first 90+ day of June yesterday and it's supposed to reach the mid to upper 90s the next few days with high humidity. I had a fast commute this morning and was totally soaked in sweat when I arrived at work, but I'll plan to take easier in the afternoon.

Altered my route a bit today to chase a Lycra-clad roadie commuter (he was carrying a large backpack). He wasn't moving too quickly at first, but when he noticed I was behind him, he turned up the heat a bit. I managed to catch up and stay about a bike length behind him for several blocks, but I didn't bother to try passing him, because I was already putting in quite an effort to keep up, and for all I knew, he was just toying with me. Then came decision time: I could either stay topside and take the roads downtown, or dip into the valley for a slightly longer and much hillier route. Roadie stayed topside, and I had had my fun, so I descended into the valley, and that was that. No SCR points for me!

I feel like I got caught at nearly every red light this morning. Then when I get to work, I'm securing my bike to the bike rack, and my co-workers E-Bike falls over, and the hard plastic trunk shatters.

His bike weighs about 100lb, and he's got a double-sided kickstand that lifts his front wheel about a foot off the ground. He chained his front wheel to the top (horizontal) post of the bike rack. I already e-mailed him, letting him know about it, and suggested he secure the rear (heavy) end of the bike.

Going up to 98 F here in NYC today, but ride time temp this morning was about 78 F so not too bad. For Brooklyn riders: I discovered last night that Clermont Av. is a great alternative to Vanderbilt between Flushing and Fulton. Give it a try!

Commute this morning was good until some fat **** in a truck pulled up next to me and angrily started signaling I get onto the sidewalk—mind that I'm in a bike lane! He then starts to drift his truck into the bike lane to force me onto the sidewalk so I slam my brakes and let him pass. Angrily, I sprint the 1/4 mile or so to catch up to him at a light and pull up to his drive side window and start yelling at him! His only excuse is that I'm in the way and need to be on the sidewalk. I then tell him I'm about to pull him out of the car and stomp him out for pulling some stupid **** like that. The light then turns green and he peels out flipping me off.

Still so damn heated right now.

I know how you feel. I encounter this kind of ignorance occasionally down here on the Gulf Coast. Mississippi's not a big cycling/bike commuting state! We don't have many bike lanes down here so the situation is worse in some cases.

Bikes: See my sig...

The heat must be making people crazy...

In a stretch of less than two blocks I got buzzed by an SUV moving at well over the posted limit, got passed and cut off by a minivan and then a block later, when I was making like a pedestrian and crossing in the crosswalk one white SUV blew through the cross walk just as I was stepping off and then another white mini SUV in the third far lane blew through the crosswalk in front of me (I had stopped to check) and then the lady in the next little white SUV stops but lays on her horn as she came to a stop in the lane the 2nd SUV was in and gives me a "what are you doing".

I got a little unglued and smacked her hood, pointed to the huge crossing sign and yelled at her that "THIS IS A ^%$%$#%$ CROSSWALK AND WHAT THE F%$@#%$&&^ IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE !!! ".

She had her window down and apologized as I was making my way across to the other side... all the traffic to my left had stopped and no-one tried to blow through the cross walk which is good because I was at that point where I would have gotten off for temporary insanity after beating up some driver.

There has been a lot of construction and delays and think this is really contributing to the traffic hell in my neighbourhood... one 7 block stretch that turns on to the Avenue where I was playing Frogger turns into a parking lot at the busier hours.

I never liked playing Frogger...

It's crazy hot, 90s again. All the motorists have their windows up using AC. At night I almost ran over a HUGE rock. I was out at 10 p.m., and I love the lack of motorists at that time. What time do little kids got to bed nowadays? The brats should be in bed, but they're out lurking. No psychos today but I did encounter an extremely morbidly obese woman.

I made a fantastic discovery on the way home from my club ride tonight. There is plenty of room to bring my bike into the public washrooms in the park that is on my commute route. On of them is just 15 feet off the main road allowing for a quite pit stop and no locking up.

I'm probably responsible for the rain we had tonight. I just cleaned my road bike, put on a new wheel, and a new chain, didn't bring any rain gear and still haven't got around to fitting the fenders I bought.

About 2 miles into my ride home last night, right in the heart of town, a CINTAS (uniforms I think) van almost pulled the perfect right hook on me. I got stopped less than a foot from hitting him. I dont think he ever knew I was there. Scary. A bunch of pedestrians were standing on the corner and I think he was looking at them instead of me. Anyway it was so close one of the pedestirans screamed, I quess she thought I was gonna hit him.

The ride in this morning was great, fast and pretty warm. Rode my road bike today.

went in at 8.30am instead of 6.30am and there was much more cycling/pedestrian/vehicular traffic. and the type of traffic was different ... usually i see more serious bikers and delivery trucks ... today i saw a lot of business commuters (at least 50 people riding in full business suits) and a lot of general traffic.

however, i must be getting stronger as i can ride the larger gears much easier which makes the commute faster / slightly more fun. i'm averaging 25km/h (15mph) round trip now (25km/15miles) through the middle of the city with many stop lights on a MTB with semi-knobbies (Schwalbe Smart Sams). i don't ride heard enough to really sweat yet, either you guys on road bikes must ride quite fast.

it just an interesting observation as i ride with the same intensity i did a month ago but the speed has gone up / commuting time has gone down

Its another warm morning at 76f (24C). I did ok yesterday in the very hot temps. I took my time and rode in lower gears going up hills, on which I could feel the hot air. Plenty of water with me, so no worse for the wear.

Miserable, soaked right down to the boxers and socks, not to mention windy and late for work. Not good

What a freakin' gorgeous day. Legs felt a little heavy on my pre-work ride this morning, but it was still great to get out. It's currently 20C/68F with a forecast high of 23C, sunny, almost no wind...and I'm stuck working in my basement. If I didn't have so much to do, I'd play hooky and go ride a Century.

Only had a half commute today. It was a lovely morning and nice ride in except for the fact that I had ANOTHER flat 3 miles from the house. Some stupid rusty nail went straight through the tire and tube. So 15 minutes went toast but I made it up and got to the town I work in on time. Then, as I'm getting into a left turn lane on a highway with 50mph speed limit where I have to travel for about 100 yards, some lady in a green jeep comes blazing behind me going what I thought was 60+.

At this point I'm going 25 mph and trying to get this over with quickly and not be in anybody's way. I signaled left to indicate my move before as the turn lane formed but she starts to try to pass me, IN the TURN LANE across double yellow lines with oncoming traffic. Came real close behind me and ended up passing with a stomp on the gas all the way into the lane of oncoming traffic...

Couldn't be bothered to feather the brakes for 10 seconds, jeez!?! Road rage jerk-idiot late to work has to sacrifice another human being's safety for her convenience. I was so scared but managed to make the cyclist #1 in the air to let her know I didn't appreciate that. Raised my blood pressure for several hours afterwards.

Other then that pretty good day and I took a short ride afterwards.

Warmest morning of the weeks at 80f (27c). I am in later, but that is still warm. We are supposed to get storms later, so I will be watching for that and planning my day around it.

Nice morning, first morning this year it was warm enough for me to eschew the long sleeves. Took a slightly longer route to work (about 1 km extra) which gave me an extra climb out of the valley, just cuz.
