A good morning and a nice temp at 61f (16c). It is supposed to get very hot this week, but at least the first morning is nice. The air quality gets so bad when it gets near 100.

The ride was nice but I had to wear a long sleeve shirt due to it only being 50f degrees. I brought a short sleeve shirt for the ride home as it will be much warmer when I leave here. I am trying to pare down what I carry with me on the bike as I do not need the extra weight.

Sunny, 63F/17C, with a nice tailwind to push me along.

Can't say I'm looking forward to the commutes later this week. Wednesday 93F/34C, Thursday 100F/38C. Now that I'm wearing normal (work) clothes I'm not sure I want to ride in that heat. Maybe I'll revert back to the old ways and wear shorts and a jersey. Or, the bus is air conditioned. I'm getting soft.

Legs tired from sea kayaking on Friday and Saturday with long ride on Sunday, fighting the wind the whole time. The winds have been blowing persistently out of the north here for the past 4-5 days, which meant pleasantly cool temperatures. However, the winds shifted to the south just in time for my commute this morning, which meant headwinds all the way to work. I can't seem to buy a tailwind lately.

Nice easy commute today, decent temps, low winds. There was practically a cycle-commuter traffic jam downtown this morning - I don't think I've ever seen so many commuters in one place at one time before.

Bikes: 2006 Trek 1000 SL, 1995 Performance 505 MTB, 2012 Trek 520 (my daily commuter)

Nice ride, no rain, from the VRE station to Fort Belvoir until I had a run in with a Fairfax Connector bus. I just caught a red light as I rolled under the light. I was in the bike lane, no cross traffic waiting. I heard the bus accelerating hard, run the light, get just past me and merge right across my lane, cutting me off to pull into a bus lane. Had to hit the brakes hard and swerve into the traffic lane to miss hitting him.
At least I got an email and a phone call back from the county when I sent a complaint via email with the time, road, bus and route number.

This morning was a struggle. I battled the wind for most of my 13 mile commute. I felt like I was riding in mud. On the way home it was much different, but my legs were feeling their age.

I had a mild run in with a guy in an SUV. He tried to pass me in temporary stop-and go traffic, but I held my ground, because I don't like being pushed to the curb. He honked, and finally yelled at me, asking me what the hell I thought I was doing, acting like a car. When I replied that none of us were going anywhere fast, and that I was taking my turn, and maybe he should, too, he got a confused look on his face, then let it go. When he finally was able to pass me, I thought he would gun the engine, but didn't.

My commute today sucked because I had to drive in...first time since beginning of April. I knew cycling in gave me a mental boost before my shift but I didn't realize how much until I didn't have it.

My commute was alright. I've been out of commuting for one and a half years, but today was a nice day. Decided to ride the bike to work and it felt good.

Cloudy morning, but no precipitation and warm at 68f (20c). This the gradual warming that we are supposed to get, but as long as there is cloud cover, it will be very gradual.

I saw an unusual sight last evening on my commute home. I pass a horse farm when I take the long way home, and there was a plume of dust over the horse corral and I looked to see what was causing this and I saw a horse lying on the ground with its feet in the air rolling around. I did not know horses acted as such.

Anyway my commute in this am was very nice, a long sleeve shirt was needed this morning so cool temps and mostly cloudy, eventually the clouds will burn off and it will warm to a nice temp today.

64F/18C. A little bit humid. A couple of impatient cagers were out and about but no big deal. One got a bit of a death glare until I realized it was an older woman.

Horses roll all the time, it was a plot point in CS Lewis' The Horse and His Boy even. They especially love to do this right after you've finished giving them a bath or really thorough grooming.

72 degrees and sticky. Some text-driver tried to right turn me into the Underworld but other than that it was all bunnies and sunshine along the riverside.

In a word....windy. Sustained winds @20 with gusts up to 30. It will be a tailwind on the way home.

Warm and humid this morning with temperature about 70 F. We are supposed to have our first 90+ day of June as it's been unusually cool here lately. That apparently is ending with a bang, with forecasts calling for highs in the 90s for the foreseeable future. Needless to say, I'll be taking it easy until acclimated to the heat.

Drove to work this morning as I have a meeting in Oakland this afternoon. But, I stashed my bike in the van and if the meeting ends on time I'll have time to make a Mt. Diablo ascent. So life is good!

Having overslept, I took the more direct, heavy traffic surface road route. Although it knocked 5-8 minutes off my normal commute time it didn't keep me from being a few minutes late. Too many stoplights.

Late start this morning - not usually a problem, but when I got to work, someone had locked the locker room door from the inside and the guards couldn't find a key to open the door. At least I have a backup shower available in the building across the street but I wasted 20 minutes with all the running around trying to find someone to open the locked door. Going down there in a few minutes to check again.
