very mild weather, and it looks to be nice and warm on the way home
|
I got a bonus dry ride this morning, with rain on the way. Almost 40 degrees. It's still dark when I get to my bus stop but I'm starting to get daylight for my ride home now, and going to daylight savings time will help too. I'm a scenery junky and riding in the dark all the time depresses me a bit. Just not as much as jogging on a treadmill would.

it is colder again, but sunny and nice. definately beats driving the car :-)
|
30F very nice ride in. I have Pearl Izumi gloves and nice wool liners and B index fingers still get very cold, then swell up for about 10 minutes. I need warmer gloves. Next year I am getting studded snow tires and riding year round. Ok, maybe not.
|
A bit chilly this morning at 25F (-3C). More traffic this morning, and the sky is getting lighter earlier, at least until they turn the clocks forward. I wish that they would stop doing that.
|
Cold one coming in...I had light traffic around me, must have all gone your way fletch :)
|
Cold one here in NC too, with temps in mid to upper 20s, but fortunately no wind to speak of. Yesterday we had gusts over 40 mph and sustained winds over 20. I had a doctor's appt, so I had to drive and was glad to be in my truck. I've been enjoying the extra daylight in the mornings, but that will all end this weekend with the start of daylight savings time again. Not looking forward to it myself. It's gonna be rough getting up at 5 am next week and riding in the dark all the way to work again.
|
15 degrees and sunny for my first commute. It was very nice but cold. My hands got cold early out and my feet did by the time I only had miles left. I need something warmer for my hands.
|
Cold this morning. Where did Spring go? I felt really slugish and slow, well I'm always slow but prob slower today.
|
My third day of commuting this morning, 32 degrees with 14-18 mph winds. Felt pretty great out this morning, actually, though. I've never been shy of cold weather, prefer it to hot weather actually. I picked up my Giant Rapid 3 from the LBS (it was being tuned up) and I rode that in to work this morning. That thing has me so spoiled. The ride seemed so effortless after using my mountain bike. The ride in took about 5 minutes less than it did with my MTB as well. I'm not a speed demon and it is all rough city streets (very poor condition roads). 4.25 miles in just under 18 minutes.
I'm hooked on commuting, I already can't wait to ride home tonight! |
Windy this morning but only -2C. Side streets were a bit tricky due to recent snow and melting.
Supposed to have a headwind on the way home too. Forecast is for +9 this weekend which will be great if it's not windy. |

Sorry about the cold hands and feet, but I bet you'll figure it out soon. We're all different, but I've had good luck with a thick pair of insulated cycling gloves, almost like skiing gloves. For my feet, I've been OK with thick wool hiking socks inside my shoes (indoor soccer shoes, believe it or not). Many others use insulated shoe covers. |
You people are killing me! I'm avoiding starting my commutes because it is cold and I come in here and find all kinds of people doing it in worse weather? How am I to look at myself in the mirror knowing I'm a big giant wuss?
|
Riding in the cold is 50% mental and 50% gear. You have to the attitude that you're gonna ride regardless (unless it's just plain foolish or dangerous to do so), but you'll be cold if you don't have proper clothes. The coldest temps we've had in NC since I started bike commuting 5 years ago were about 15 F and I was warm enough, altho my water bottle froze solid during the ride. Getting yourself out the door is the hardest part.
|
First ride in a week and a half due to minor procedure requiring stitches in the tuchis. Healed, I didn't loose too much tone.
The ride was 55F, and calm, and a good thing since I left the gloves at home. |

Beautiful morning here in Hattiesburg, MS... Cool weather (52 *F) and clear, sunny skies. Definitely going to have to go for a ride during the lunch break :).

Roughest commute I've ever had to work. Basically 8-9 miles of this and then a pleasant last .5 miles to cruise into my work place. |
Missed riding Friday and yesterday thanks to a nasty cold that kept me from work. I'm better, but still not one hundred percent and it showed on the ride to work this morning. Weather was nice and all, but I just felt physically spent most of the ride. So I took it easy on the way in, even if it seemed really slow.
Riding when I'm sick does generally help me to feel better, though. Must be the fresh air and getting the blood flowing, so hopefully today's will help me get back on my feet. Can't wait to finally kick this cold's a$$ and get back to feeling like myself again. I did manage to make the most of my sick day home yesterday, though... watched the first two stages of Paris-Nice. :-) |

70 and sunny. Perfect weather for riding today. Tomorrow isn't going to be as fun, as it's supposed to be windy, rainy, and in the 40s.

Wow! what a friggin' exhilarating ride home. I left the office amidst foreboding clouds and strong winds (mostly tailwinds, but very fickle and gusty). I was literally riding with the "blast front" of the incoming storm.
Along one of the streets in downtown I nearly got blown over - the wind was going CRAZY, with debris pelting everyone it the area. Then the wind shifted in one sudden, cold downward blast and I had a steady 20-30mph tailwind the rest of the ride home, accompanied by wind-driven snow in increasing amounts. By the time I got home it was DUMPING. As I rode I could see the low clouds swallowing the mountains. It was really epic! I love riding in this kind of stuff! |
Okay, that's 2 days (Monday and Tuesday) driving my new car to work. I think the shine's worn off a bit - tomorrow morning back on The Rig!! :thumb::thumb:

I just had the worst commute home that didn't involve a collision of some sort, unless you count a collision with a stray plastic bag.
Said stray plastic bag got caught up in the rear derailleur, and the RD got ripped right off the bike, but not before putting a dent on the right side seat stay, snapping the RD cable, and mangling up the chain. I had to walk back 15-20 yards from where I finally stopped to find the RD. I'm surprised I didn't fall off the bike or worse. Some pics: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7045/6...272463ce_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7057/6...86d1a5c2_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7041/6...3d85d207_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7199/6...9947057d_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7188/6...b9cd0034_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7203/6...59649112_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7196/6...ee81714b_b.jpg So I'm at a loss as to what to do. Any advice would be appreciated. |
I had something similar happen with a piece of mangled wire in the dark, but it tore up my rear derailleur, so I had to replace it. The wire took out teeth on several rows of the cassette.
Easy ride in at 34f (1C). It is supposed to get warm today, so I brought shorts to go home in. I love shorts, they just seem natural. |
Quiet and warmer ride than yesterday, bit of a headwind.
Still empty in the locker room at work, wonder when the bike commuters will start to reappear. |
Sorry for you loss Oatmealboy; you were quite lucky you managed to stay on the bike with that damage.
Today's commute was uneventful and quite pleasant considering the rain that's been falling this week. Weather was in the mid teens (Celsius) with scattered clouds and a gentle breeze. Unfortunately, although the weather is going to stay roughly the same during the next three to four days, the winds are going to pick up to almost gale force (7 on the Beaufort scale, or roughly around 40 miles gusting to around 50), making my commute tiring since I take a route that's by the seaside and susceptible to all winds. |
it was a warm 28degrees this morning. Not to much wind and a nice ride in to work. I love going by the lake and see the sun coming up over it. I was a minute or two ahead of the sun this am. Just as I was at the end of the lake the sun appearred.

Yesterday was interesting, a light breeze from the north on the way in, and a WIND from the NE at 17-20 with gusts to 30 on the way home. I was FLYING on the way home as the wind was mostly at my back as I worked my way South and West towards home. Today, it was a 5-7 mph wind from the NE as I rode north and east to work. Supposed to be about the same this afternoon. Was a warm 60 F this morning, and will be near 80 on the way, home. This has been a NICE winter to commute on a bike here in South Florida and I have been really digging on it!

20 mph wind in the face. Looking forward to the ride home. Very warm 50 degrees and I overdressed. I always mess up my clothing during the transition from winter to spring.
