Wet. A few sprinkles that weren't showing on the radar on the way to work, downpour most of the day during work that created localized flooding, but managed to get home in between two heavy bands of rain.

dygituljunky 03-20-12 12:03 AM

Awesome. First ride in to work on the new Greenspeed Anura.

I don't hurt!

Grim 03-20-12 04:48 AM

I'm so close to driving today. Pollen count yesterday was 8100+, A record and 2000 over the previous standing record.

Today its 9300. I'm usually immune to it but I woke up with a brick on my head after sleeping with the window open.

fletchh 03-20-12 04:50 AM

Scattered storms and warm at 60F (16C). There is nothing that will make me move faster, than a bright flash of lightening and loud clap of thunder. I did scope out building doorways along the way, in case it got too bad, but I made it in without stopping.

essiemyra 03-20-12 05:45 AM

Well this morning commute was fine, a little chilly 34f when I rode throught town. I did not notice to much wind this am, unlike last nights commute home when there was an ene wind. My ride home is east so I was riding mostly right into it. Oh what fun that can be!!

vtjim 03-20-12 06:02 AM

48F/9C, calm wind, sunrisey. Another lovely summer day in...March.
:wtf:

(Not that I'm complaining.)

Tractortom 03-20-12 06:11 AM

I'm really digging on the fact that this is 'spring break' for the school kids here in Okeechobee and the morning traffic is down by about HALF. Makes for some fast rides to and from work these mornings and very few stops for traffic or lights. I guess I'll be really happy when summer break gets here so it's like this every morning!

Great ride in this morning, some headwind but warm with a few raindrops here and there. I did see some distant lightning but nothing close. Birds still chirping away and cherry blossoms are out early.

I'm convincing myslef I have a slow leak in the rear tire but everytime I check there is no evidence.

gecho 03-20-12 08:07 AM

I was all set to go but found my rear tire flat when I got to my bike. Looks like the rim tape is to blame for that one. The entire rim side of the tube is covered with bumps where it is pushing the rim tape into the spoke holes. The puncture was in the center of one of them.

Once I was on my way I enjoyed a -2C morning with a fairly strong tailwind, though it started to easy up during the ride. I was commuting on slicks for the first time this year and managed a wind assisted average speed of 27kph for a trip time of 33 minutes. There were only a few spots of ice which I was able to go around.

Leebo 03-20-12 08:26 AM

Gecho -, use velox rim tape.

Leebo 03-20-12 08:27 AM

Nice 18 miles in today, 40 F at the start, 48 at the end. "cept for the crazy geese.

HardyWeinberg 03-20-12 09:00 AM

40F and drizzly most of the way, then the skies really OPENED for the last mile.

no motor? 03-20-12 10:13 AM

Today was the first morning where I really had to wonder if I would cool off faster indoors than outside.

JeremyZ 03-20-12 10:54 AM

I drove today, shame on me. But I think you'll excuse me, as the reason I did it is so that I can make it to the bike shop before they close directly from work and pick up my new Schwinn Coffee 3-spd!

very nice Schwinn Coffee 3-spd bike.

Telly 03-20-12 12:05 PM

Spring is finally here! Clear skies, light winds and temps around 23° Celsius (74°F) all week long, so commuting to work in the morning was nice and cool, while on the way bike I passed by my LBS to have my front derailleur checked/adjusted and had to cycle in heavy traffic making it hot and uncomfortable (compared to my usual commute by the sea-side).

gecho 03-20-12 02:54 PM

After class I went to the bike cage and had two surprises. A second person parked in the cage for the first time since October. And my back tire was flat again.

I was a little smarter this time and put on the vinyl gloves I keep with my tools. I'm glad I patched my first tube after getting to school in the morning. I better head to the LBS to get some new rim tape. This loaner wheel from the LBS has been a real dud. Now if only Shimano will get off their asses and find me a 36 spoke Deore XT non-disc hub. Its been 8 months since my hub broke.

Rimmer 03-20-12 07:03 PM

It has been warm this week and last week around 60-70 degrees which is nice except for the bugs at night. Some of them are going in my mouth.

fletchh 03-21-12 04:29 AM

A foggy, but warm morning ride at 59F (15C). I needed to keep cleaning my glasses off, as moisture would condense on them. I added another front blinking light facing out to the left, so people making lefts in front of me will see me even better.

dcb23 03-21-12 05:35 AM

Foggy and misty!

I have a problem with my front brake squeaking...I switched out the pads and that solved the problem for most days. But the moment there is a hint of moisture in the air, it's squeaks, loud.

Eight months? They must not be interested in keeping their customers satisfied . . .

Milestone: For 2012 I passed 1000 commuting miles today. The weather is so nice now that I'm seeing more of the old "regulars" out in the morning, although they probably don't recognize me on my road bike.

It's that time of year when we get pollen here. The kind of pollen that paints your bike yellow if you leave it out all day, yellow streets and yellow rivulets everywhere after a light rain. Someone asked this morning, and I realized that it doesn't bother me while riding - in fact I hadn't noticed at all. Maybe I'm acclimated from being out every day, or cycling somehow minimizes it. I don't know.

locolobo13 03-21-12 07:54 AM

For the first time since it got dark in the mornings I saw the early dawn lightening the sky on my ride in. Still 44F.

CptjohnC 03-21-12 09:42 AM

An uneventful ride this morning, though there was thick fog and even some mist. temps began in the mid 50s, and should get close to 80 by late afternoon. The only noteworthy item is that I think 2 of every 3 bikes that passed me this morning was a single speed. I guess the other noteworthy item is that there were lots of bikes out this morning, despite the fog. I expect my ride home this evening will be crowded, unless the weather gets worse :-)

JReade 03-21-12 10:26 AM

Passed on riding today. I rode my MTB to work yesterday on a whim, and it took me a bit longer than my roadie I normally bring, but much nice ride and comfort on the rough roads. My whole day was spent walking in a field, so I was pretty well beat this morning. Took the truck.

JeremyZ 03-21-12 10:57 AM

A great morning commute on the new Coffee!

I used the Cyclemeter app on my iPhone for the first time this morning, and found out the commute on the home end of my trip is 1.77 miles, that my average speed (including a couple of stops at lights) was 8.4 mph, and that my top speed was 19.4 mph. I suspect I'll hit about 23 mph on the way home, barring a headwind, as the hills on the way home are more gradual and allow me time to build up speed. 23 mph will have my legs REALLY spinning fast, as top gear (3rd) is not as high as on my TriCross.

The weather here in Chicago has been just fantastic for the last week or two. 80s almost every day up here. People at work keep saying: "We're gonna PAY for this." But for now, I'll enjoy it.

I'm hoping my wife wants me to stop by the grocery store on the way home, so I can put some more miles on it and try it on the MUP. I'm hoping the pedestrians will be less irritating when I'm aboard this bike, compared to the TriCross.

I'm loving the sprung seat, but I think I may still get a Brooks for it. Vented leather is ever so much nicer on the bum than vinyl.

Is Pollen Gluten free?

I ended up Driving yesterday. I just couldn't Chew fast enough when pollen made it to 9300.

Was down into the 5000's today and it was a super nice ride. Little warmer this morning but mid 70's for the ride home.

TheTreauth 03-21-12 03:19 PM

This morning was my first t-shirt and shorts work commute. So much better than having to wear two to three layers of clothes to deal with sub freezing weather!

Awesome commutes today. 75F and sunny with mainly cross and some headwinds from the SSW @ 9-13mph this afternoon on the way to school. 62F and dark with mainly cross and some tailwinds from the SSW @ 8-11mph on the way home.

I pulled the windscreen/roof combo that I had on my velo and replaced it with a smaller windshield and a NACA duct in front yesterday. The humidity was pretty high but I was very comfortable on both commutes. The NACA duct definitely did it's job keeping me cool. Monday when I still had the roof on, I was dying from the heat and my shirt that I was wearing got completely soaked from sweat. I passed a guy this afternoon riding a road bike going the other way that I had seen on Monday. He mentioned that I was roofless as we passed and I told him that it was just too hot for it. I actually gained some speed from removing it. Besides that, added about 2 miles onto the ride home because I made a few stops to include one at Petco.
