Today traffic is suck here due by heavy raining.
|
Beautiful morning, warm nice, got an early start so traffic was light. the birds were singing. IMPD damn near ran over me in the bike lane. Just another wonderful morning.
|
Again a nice sunny warm morning (around 15 Celsius to reach 23) with light traffic. Reached my work so fast had enough time to pop by a local barber and get a haircut! Will be cycling home later on and from there will be headed up to the city center for some recreational cycling with a buddy of mine around the Acropolis and ancient sites in the Plaka district.

Easy ride in and the temps are still wonderful 57F (14C). Passed a shopping center that is usually deserted, except for the bakery guy. Today, there were a load of cars in the lot, so I was looking for runners in the dark, but didn't come across any, so maybe they detoured somewhere. Another new rider in the dark, who I always seem to be in front of or behind or miss, passed today as I was making a left turn. That bike has some very bright lights, back and front, but in the dark, you can never have too many lights.

Just started commuting less than a week ago. This morning was the first commute in in the dark. On the whole it went well. However, my Beamer3 is not nearly as bright as I thought it would be. I also saw two other commuters this morning as well.
|
The ride in this am was very nice, 54f I still needed a jacket though. At one point I got warm almost took it off and was glad I didn't. When I got near my work there is a water area and you could feel the cold coming off that area.
The weather is supposed to get in the 80f today with a west wind. It should be a very nice ride home. |
Warm ride this morning but extremely foggy. I had to stop and remove my eyeglasses after 1/2 mile because they were already useless at that point. The pollen is also very thick here, so I guess you could say we had heavy pog or follen this morning. I drove the past two days due to forecasts for heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, hail, etc. They were right about Tuesday, when we got a boatload of rain, but we didn't get a drop yesterday. So I went for a fast ride after work to get some miles in.

edit - I actually use two of the 600s. The pair of lights is mighty bright . . . |
Another easy commute today. 66 degrees when I left the house, a breeze from the east that will be a WIND this afternoon. Had an elderly woman in a brown four door pickup truck stop at the sign, look right at me and then pull across into my path today. It was early morning light, but plenty bright to see me, and my headlight was blinking. HE (SHE) WITH THE MOST MASS IS ALWAYS RIGHT....I grabbed brakes, swung around her and kept going, I guess it's time for another letter to the editor for the local paper. I really think that some folks look for cars and trucks but bikes (even with high intensity flashing lights) are invisible to them. Other than that, no problem, a fast and easy 8.25 mile commute.

+1C with an 11kph headwind and I was perfectly dressed. The wind didn't slow me down much and was actually kind of nice as I arrived at school completely dry despite pushing hard. The temperatures are supposed to be all over the place the next few days. Highs near 20C for today / tomorrow, then 4, back up to 20 then down to 6. I've started wearing my summer shoes, with rain covers on top in the mornings.
I'll have to start taking the long way to school. |
Another nice commute, although, 30 min later, and many more street lights on. I will have to figure that one out. Nice temps at 56F (13C), and the first full week in shorts and sleevless.
|
Due to baking obligations and life generally getting in my way, I had to commute by car this am. I am not a happy person this am!!
|
I'm finishing up taking a week off from bicycling. About once a year, I start disliking cycling and just stop riding. I guess I get tired of it or something, but then after taking a week or two off I'm back to normal. I'll be 59 this year and have bicycled for about 40 years (many of them just me and the bike, no car), so it doesn't bother me that this happens from time to time. I'll probably be back commuting this next week and will love it again and will wonder why I felt like stopping.

Warm morning commute but the pog (fog + pollen) was very thick again. I had to remove my eyeglasses at the 2/3 point in my commute in order to see. This is the earliest in the year that we have had pollen levels this high, but hopefully it will start tailing off pretty soon. It is nasty stuff, coating everything with a thick yellow powder that makes you feel dirty, makes your eyes itchy and causes allergies for many people.

14th commute of 2012 Today....Glad to be back at it. Rain and Fog with temps in the mid 50s. I don't mind the rain when it's above 50. :)
|
Another hot beautiful spring day here in Athens, but my commute was far from easy... received a call from work concerning a IT emergency and sprinted to work in roughly 2/3 of the time I usually take, reaching the office in a distressed state from the heat and Friday traffic... Hopefully my evening commute back will be quieter!
BTW, the emergency... a device had run out of batteries! lol |
The commute to work this morning was sweet. Temps in the 60 going upward to 70. Bike feeling good, and just enjoying the ride. I started to take off.. ;)
|
How was the commute today? It was great :)
|
28F blinding sun very nice!
|
15 miles to work in just shy of 45mins!
Now no one wants to sit next to me, but it's cool. |
Been missing my bike commute the last week. Last Friday was not a great day. Somehow my chain broke and my front wheel tacoed. I wrote about it here. Upshot is I sprang for a wheel with an Alfine generator hub. I don't have any lights yet, but should have them before fall rolls around and I really need them on a daily basis again.
Wheel, chain, and a couple other minor items due to arrive next Monday, so just one more day not on the bike, I hope. |
What a good day, like nature apologizing for the previous week. 26 and clear but dark for my morning ride to Dallas. After I crested the ridge I hit fog and had to ride my brakes some on the down hill side. Still better than rain.
Then this afternoon it was about 50 degrees, sunny, with blue skies. I took my long route home on some pretty back roads south and west of Monmouth. I got passed by an ambulance and two fire trucks, don't know what that was about. 31 miles for the day. |
just got my first road bike and I rode a total of 7.92m, great weather here Valencia!
|
The bugs were bad on the way home at night. It has been warm here for a few weeks, and there's a lot of yellow pollen. I wonder if the rain all week attracted them. They were hitting my face, forehead, legs, and getting stuck in my hairy arms. I wonder if my headlight has anything to do with it. I would rather ride in the cold. If this continues, I'm going to have to avoid residential areas which is where they seem worse.
The pollen doesn't seem to affect me, well, except for my tires displaying a ring of yellow down the center. Someone told me that the pharmacies have run out of allergy medicines. I don't take medicines, so it really doesn't concern me. |
Awesome ride in. I took the extra long route and took my time. The temperature was perfect, the tires were properly inflated on the new trike, and the scenery wasn't bad. Surprisingly, the pollen isn't bothering me as much today.
I nearly got clobbered by a car and, in this case, it would have been my fault; thankfully he saw me in time. |
A good ride in at 52F (11C). There is supposed to be a dip in temps tonight and tomorrow, so back to chilly weather gear for the next couple mornings. Lost the first spoke of my rear wheel. I am sure it happened coming trhough one of the construction sites. They dig up the road and never put it back the same.

Wow EKW., that was one hell of a day for you....and the pics frm Metro confirm once again why I chose to become a bike commuter. Quiet ride in just getting back into the groove of it, nice temps, clight headwind, sun creeping up a bit again. |
Just a tad bit chilly. Very nice ride.

Nice ride in this morning with mild temps and wet roads but thankfully the rain appears to be gone finally. We must have gotten 3+ inches of rain over the past 4-5 days. My backyard has been too soggy to check the rain gauge so I won't know for sure until this afternoon. The weekend rides have been washed out for something like 6 out of the last 8 weekends. Actually, I got in a nice solo metric century on Sunday but all of my riding buddies wimped out. It was cloudy with skies that appeared threatening, but it didn't rain until right after I got home. That's one of the benefits of commuting is you get a lot tougher, plus I rode one of my fendered bikes so I wasn't too worried about the rain. My weekend riding friends act like they will melt if they get hit by a raindrop, and they bail out of rides at the first hint of rain.

Whew... 31F/-1C with a howling headwind, a steady 30+MPH blowing off Lake Champlain. Felt like a hill climb almost all the way in.
From the "share the road" department, I noticed a big flatbed rig hauling train wheels approaching an intersection from my right. He had a left turn signal on, to turn onto the street I was using. I put 2 & 2 together and realized he was going to need a lot of room to turn so I stopped far from the stop sign and waved him in. He waved back after he made his turn. He did need that room. |
