Dark, 37 degrees, and raining. I was tired from running 8 miles last night with some friends so I did not make good time this morning. I don't think I've run at all for at least a month. I should ride about 18 tonight on the way home, though I hope the rain stops.

hotwheels 04-04-12 10:11 AM

It was about 45f/7.2c this morning and I saw 5 other commuters.

Rimmer 04-04-12 01:52 PM

Today was 80 degrees with not much wind. I was sweating. Forecast predicted half an inch of rain with 100% probability of precipitation and severe thunderstorms by some particular time. Well, it didn't rain not yet anyway. Later tonight it will. It certainly looks awful outside and it's thundering pretty badly. I took the quickest route home, so I made it home dry. I ate before leaving. I just cannot eat before cardio. I could never do that. It upsets my stomach way too much. I had some little ass cut me just before a stop sign. When he stopped, I passed him and gave him the finger. I needed to turn right--he didn't. I was also in a hurry. Some ass of a bus driver had the wrong sign set. When I saw the next bus (same route) but opposite direction, it wasn't going where I needed to go, and I immediately knew where the other bus went, so I had to hurry to catch the boat before it left. If I got caught in that thunderstorm, because of that ass bus driver, I would've been pissed.

Rimmer 04-04-12 02:01 PM

It's pouring cats and dogs right now.

Fizzaly 04-04-12 04:01 PM

50f On the way in with slight head wind, 54f with a strong head/cross wind on the way home. Supposed to get chilly the next few days with lows going into the 20's, stupid Boise can't make it's mind up.

making 04-04-12 04:17 PM

Windy and nice ride home.

oisin 04-04-12 04:21 PM

about to head out for a 4 mile (each way) jaunt from work in some nice dress clothes to go look at an apartment. not the best riding gear but a nice day out! better roll up the pants right high.

Mark Stone 04-04-12 04:52 PM

Up to this point I've been riding from home to the bus stop, riding the bus to work, and reversing at night. However, I have grown to hate the buses here in my dusty town and don't want to do that any more! But I don't think I'm ready for the bike commute distance (34 or 35 miles round trip) yet, so I'm going to make a change: Drive my car, with the bicycle on a carrier, part of the way, and then ride the rest of the way to work. It will still save $$ re: gasoline costs. Public transportation in my little city really blows. :notamused: After doing that for a while then decrease drive distance/increase bike distance and see where it goes from there. I used to do a 35 mile round trip when I was younger, so I think it's still within my range after I lose weight and get in better shape.

Going on two weeks commuting 3-4 days per week, still learning. Ran over a pallet this morning! No flats or wipeout! I was on a road bike. Lesson learned don't outride your light

wphamilton 04-04-12 06:01 PM

Great commutes, cool for the easy morning ride and 80+ evening which is perfect for me to loosen up and take it a little faster.

Knuckleheads are in full bloom today. This week has been a corker!

Commodus 04-04-12 08:46 PM

SIX ducks, two little green snakes AND a goose like two feet away from me.

I'm really enjoying my new 'meander through the country side' route home.

Oh yeah and some old guy with a killer moustache doing hill repeats.

Chalupa102 04-04-12 09:36 PM

Good commutes today.

61F and sunny with mainly headwinds and some crosswinds from the WNW @ 17-24mph gusting to 31mph for the ride in. Second time this week I almost witnessed an accident. I was riding in the wide shoulder (trike lane as I like to call it) and a vehicle passed going the same way and had just put on his left blinker. He couldn't turn because there was oncoming traffic. Three other vehicles pulled up and stopped behind the stopped left turner. I was expecting them to go around in the shoulder, so I hung back. Surprisingly they did not. A few seconds later I noticed a Nissan Rogue flying up to the stopped cars. The driving slammed on the brakes with tires screetching and had to go into the shoulder to avoid rear ending the stopped vehicles. I am really glad that I hung back, or I could have been hit by the Nissan driver, who clearly wasn't paying attention.

46F and dark with mainly cross/headwinds from the NW @ 16-28mph, with a spot rain shower and 38mph gusts in the beginning for the ride home. Got a slight cramp in my right hamstring with about 3 miles left of the commute. Luckly it wasn't too bad when I started the climb to my house.

villi 04-05-12 04:22 AM

Today's commute (15 miles) was brought to me by the words 'Cold' and 'Windy'. But I still liked it, and continue to like the novelty of the superior feeling towards my colleagues as they admire my skid lid sitting on my desk, a reminder to all of my heroic struggle against the elements this morning.

krobinson103 04-05-12 04:27 AM

My good exercise/commuter bike was out of action thanks to missing spoke so I switched to the backup/shopping/carry kids bike. It was actually quite a lot of fun. I decided to play with the placement and angles of the shifters and found some really nice new ways to ride. That and the fact that it was a leisurely cruise rather than a race of one to drag the average speed and distance up a few more points.

fletchh 04-05-12 04:44 AM

A decent ride in, with good temps 46f (8C). Still dark in the morning, but the light is catching up, by the time I am done my shower, there is some light.

making 04-05-12 04:51 AM

a bit windy and chilly, a cold front coming through. 53f no rain, I will take it. Another nice ride in.

JPinWI 04-05-12 06:25 AM

I'm back to the cold weather gear do to a strong wind out of the Northeast. 34 degrees. I noticed it's getting brighter earlier each morning ...I turned off my headlight about 3/4s of the way to work. Another excellent day for a bike ride.

rhammons 04-05-12 07:15 AM

Perfect ride in this morning. 38F with a nice breeze and plenty of sunshine to keep me thinking warm. Arm warmers, hoodie, shorts and wool socks were in full force.

making 04-05-12 07:25 AM

I forgot something that happened this morning. I leave home about 0430. About 4 or 5 miles out at a crossroad an older guy, probably late 50's to early 60's was running, I mean he flew accross the street in from of me. I was glad he wasnt coming up behind me, I would have got dropped by an old guy jogging. I dont know if he was really going that fast, but he looked like he was flying.

genel 04-05-12 07:54 AM

Yesterday, the morning weather report said 35, but it was really 45, and I was way overdressed. Today they reported 45 and it was really 35 and I was underdressed. That's quite an error range. But should be a nice tailwind later.

First flat of the year. Even the best tires are no match for Fairfield road.

scottsmith 04-05-12 08:47 AM

Really enjoyed the ride to work this morning. It was unexpectedly quick and extra fun. I thought I maybe had a tail-wind but it turns out I just didn't have a head-wind!

It was a little colder than I thought though, froze my toes a bit, not quite numb but painfully close. Should have worn something without vents!

Cheers

TheTreauth 04-05-12 09:36 AM

15-20 mph winds and in the low 30's, gloomy day. Still a good ride in though.

dcb23 04-05-12 10:34 AM

Back on the bike after a day off...I was helping a colleague get to and from the hospital in DC to his home about 70 miles out...that meant I went through four car commutes in one day. Awful, how do people do it?

Bit of a head wind, cooler than lately, but a good ride.

bored117 04-05-12 10:59 AM

Had wonderful ride back home yesterday! Instead of taking train in between, I just rode all the way. Nice 46 miles and pretty therapeutic. Was going at easy clip so that I don't strain my ankle too much. Getting readied up for couple of big centuries coming up.

Fizzaly 04-05-12 03:35 PM

29f and windy this morning, 48f and still windy though at least it was variable and never quite a headwind.

Rimmer 04-05-12 05:59 PM

Today had asses galore. Temperature was a beautiful 55 degrees, and it was cloudy all day—no sun at all. I saw people shivering today. They must be sedentary. I think we got a small cold front or something. I caught the first bus nice and dandy. When I approached my next bus stop, I noticed another bike rider, so I rode toward the direction where my next bus is coming from to check the status of the bike racks on it. Lo and behold, there's already another bike on it, and there's only room for two bikes. Normally in these situations, I back track to the previous stops of my next bus, so I can get my bike on the rack before the other geezer can. Yes, it's sneaky, but the bus I came off didn't allow enough ample time for me to do that. At this point, I'm debating whether I should ride a few miles to catch the boat or see if the other bike rider is coming off or the bus driver would allow me to carry my bike in the bus. Well, the ass of a bus driver who's already late didn't let me, and it's raining a bit, so I hurry up to catch the boat. The headwind was just awful, and I needed to take it easy, because I did hard workout yesterday, and I wanted to do another tomorrow. I just hate seeing my speed below a certain point with a higher exertion. Times like this make me want to get a p meter. On the other side of the water, I get just about every red light you can imagine. I also had to take a detour because of construction. I don't mind detours, but it's raining although not heavy I didn't want it to get heavier. I don't know what's up with all the motorists with brake lights not working, but they're all out there. I got behind a woman in an SUV trying to parallel park. Let's just say it took about an hour. The commute was pretty drawn out, and it's raining. Luckily, my commute back didn't have much rain. I catch the bus to go through the tunnel. It's backed up, and I missed the next bus. I just rode my bike the rest of the way. Because of all the asses and traffic buildup, my commute back home had a bunch of asses on the road. It was much busier than usual. My stupid camera wouldn't turn on. I had to stop and master reset it to turn it back on. There's this steep hill I have. What I do is go through a residential route and set myself up for a traffic light before the hill. Otherwise, on the main road, there would be a lot of traffic behind me when the light would turn green. I do this for a speed run with little traffic behind me before the hill. There are really, really bad bumps and cracks that run along the road right before that stupid hill. I believe they knocked my rear brakes out of adjustment one time. What I like to do is ride along the middle of the right lane to avoid the worse part of the bumps, and with no traffic behind me I can do that.

About 55F in the morning and 70F + on the way home. Much better ride but my bridge over the "river" is still under water from the raid on Tuesday. I ended up with a 14 mile ride and tore it up. Best ride of the year. I do prefer long flat rides than short steep hill commutes.

bored117 04-05-12 09:46 PM

Another ride back to originating train station from Irvine... to Riverside... what a ride. I am getting to like it more and more. I might start mixing them in a little here and there when I want longer than 1 hour ride. Didn't get lost 6 times like yesterday so total trip time was cut down to 2:45. All in beautiful So Cal weather.
