Cooler temps are back, broke out the gloves and hat and goggles (my eyes tear up instantly in any kind of head wind). Last night coming home there were bike commuters everywhere, what a sight.
Rimmer that is quite a story you told! |
temp was 28f when I rode past the thermometer in town, and there were more clouds today than yesterday so less light. Though it was a nice ride in. Any ride in on the bike beats a ride in the car and work out at the gym.
DCB23 so that must be a headwind I am riding into when my eyes tear up. I was not sure why they do but I know it happens. I was not sure what caused it. |
Yep. Cooler temps are back...had to break out the plastic bags to put inside my shoes. :) I did get to watch the full moon set and almost greet the sunrise but alas I got to work. Another great day for a bike commute.
|
I saw a meteor on my commute in this morning. About 5:30 AM Arizona Time, SSW from Central Phoenix. From where I was it appeared to be going almost straight down.
|
Cold and windy, wind chill was 22 degrees. Still love riding to work over driving any day but Spring can start any time now!
|
Went for my first commute to work today. I have been wanting to do it for a while now. I just have a regular road bike but it is 10 miles all riding each way. It was nice and cool here in Southern IL this morning but it was a great ride. I wore my assult pack because I packed all my shower gear and my clothes to change over in, but it still wasn't a bad ride at all. I look forward to reading this thread today at work then my ride back home at 430. Have a good day BF!!!

Congratulations on the first commute!

Been so busy I haven't had a chance to post here in a while. Commuting every day I have been working, which hasn't been every day since I've been going to all the prenatal checkups of late pregnancy with my wife lately, which means a day a week I'm not in the office. Paternity leave looms large.
The weather has been great of late. With the exception of some early days of too much warmth for this time of year. Sadly no way for me to avoid the large crowds crossing the Mall to get home in the afternoon. Touron season is here. Other note I wanted to share it's about perhaps the most Fred thing I have yet to set in my three years of daily bike commuting. Strapped or bolted down to the rear rack of a bike I passed yesterday was a MAILBOX. Thinking about it, I realize it's probably a good watertight way to carry things, and fairly cheap, our free if repurposing a used box that's being replaced, but it still looked funny. |
not just a commute to work on a nice mid-70s day, but a jaunt to the DMV to renew my driver's license. It felt good rolling up on a bike.
|
It was 50 today. People aren't as crazy when it's cooler out, and I like that. The wind for the morning commute was atrocious. Most of commute is going north, and that's exactly where all the wind was coming from. I haven't had wind this bad in a long time. Along the coast there's always wind. I shifted to the largest cog and still felt slow. Since today was Friday, I wore my white shirt. On Friday everybody gets there checks from work, and all the wackos, gluttons going to restaurants, drunks, and serial killers are on the loose. The commute back wasn't that bad. Either I had good timing, or I'm getting used to all the traffic out here. Also had a bit of tailwind on the way back as the wind didn't change much direction. Unfortunately, much of my commute back was heading westbound and not so much south.

Oh yeah, how can I forget... today I saw a cop running over a curb as he was turning right like an idiot. I also have it on my video camera. I'm just glad he didn't run me over when he passed me.

My commute was good and bad.
Good that the cross over the "river" wasn't flooded over and shorted my ride home from 14 to 10 miles. Bad because so many people had today off with "good friday" the trails we're a tad busy :( |
Been a while since my last visit here....nice ride in today (Easter Sunday). Lovely moon till it got bright. Not cold either.
|
Getting ready to head out for work, should be a nice one weather wise and being Easter Sunday, little traffic.
Now that my schedule changed, riding in on Sat and Sunday really breaks up the week nicely. The hard part is getting back on the old hardtail after riding some new hybrids at the local LBS. |

Well at least I'm not the only one working Sundays ! You've an earlier start than me ? I'm up at 5.20am....what about you ?
Lived about 90 miles north of London for 4 years back in the 80's and made it to Dublin once for a week. Had a great time and I miss getting a proper pint nowadays. They opened a British style pub here that has Fuller's ESB on tap so at least I can get a Bitter. I do enjoy riding in to work on Sat and Sun because of the pace. |
A nice ride in at 50f (10C). Rain later, so will be watching for that coming in, hopefully, after I am home.
|
45F/7C with a light tailwind. Lots of rain around, regionally, but a nice dry hole over Burlington. :)
Saw a salmon sidewalk rider. From the way he was kitted, he looked like he should have known better. |
Great and fast ride in today, overdressed a bit, mid 40's is hard for me to figure out. I have freezing figured out and 50's figured out, it is just in the middle there I seem to overdress.
|
I was on vacation last week, so today was my first bike commute since March 30. It felt good riding the ol' commuter again and the weather was great with temps about 50 F and no clouds in sight. My legs were toast from riding 55 miles solo yesterday in very windy conditions. None of my regular riding buddies showed up for the weekend ride, so I was on my own. It was a beautiful day for riding except for the wind. I managed to ride 150 miles for the week despite no commutes, all solo, and traveling without my bike for 4 days.
|
Blustery coming in this morning but not cold. Last Friday on the way home there were bikes everywhere, loved it.
|
Best ride in to work yet. I have a short commute (2.5-3 miles depending on route) to begin with, but today offered the best temperature, and traffic light coordination yet. Averaged 18mph and got in in 8.5 minutes versus the usual 13-15 minutes. Landed a PR on strava for it, too.
|
We got the biggest snow of the winter on the weekend, but most of it is already melted off the roads. -7C and a 21kph tailwind for the ride in. I wore my summer shoes with covers and I was adequately warm.
The bike lane on a 70km/h road was completely blocked in one section by two construction trailers. It looks like they plan on leaving them there while they built a condo complex. I don't think so. Given the recent bicycle collisions in the city I think I can have them moved pretty quick. |
Cold, not enough sleep, but clear and the day is really warming up.
|
Bright! (through haze) Warm! (50F). Could not resist road bike even though I have post-vacation-sized load of cargo for work. Awesome ride.
|
A little windy, not too chilly, bright and sunny. Not a lot of traffic today either so it was a fast ride. Very enjoyable.
|
You know, I seen a cop do that the other day too. He hit it so hard I am suprised he did not bust his rim, and he was in a parking lot.

40 degrees, dark, but with a nearly full moon out. Beautiful ride! It was dry. I want more.
