It was 65F with overcast and strong cold winds.

dcb23 05-25-12 06:44 PM

What a colossal wood screw I ran over today...lodged all the way flush in the rear tire. Did a quick 15-minute change, got all messy, stopped at the bike shop for a new tube, got stuck in traffic because I was already late...but made it in.

Much nicer ride home.

tahoe_girl 05-25-12 09:26 PM

SNOW in Tahoe today so no riding, but yesterday was brutal with 50 mph gusts by the Lake. Kept peddaling and peddaling and felt like I wasn't moving an inch. Glad to have a day off :)

Taught a class on cycling to a group of 3rd graders this morning and it was a beautiful ride in as I left at 9 and missed most of the rush hour traffic and the weather was perfect.

Many were more interested in the fact my bike folded in half and had weird looking (spd) pedals than how drivetrains works although there were exceptions and the most interested students were the girls.

One really impressed me as she some really excellent knowledge of bicycles and discovered she has already done rides of 160 km with her father.

I was 0 for 5 this week. One day I had a concert after work, one day I went to a remote site, and one day I worked from home. The other 2 days it was raining hard. At least on the day I stayed home I squeezed a 20 mile or so ride in, which is the same distance as the r/t commute.

1FJEF 05-26-12 04:21 AM

I just went a tad over a dozen miles. It was freezing (sub 60 degrees F). I actually had to wear long pants & gloves.

Rimmer 05-26-12 11:20 AM

I rode to some local school to jog on the grass. That's not really commuting I guess. Later, I rode to the bank to exchange my coins for bills. $200 I had. All those coins were heavy, enough to make acceleration feel slower. I saw a new pot hole emerge on one of my regular roads.

I would love that weather. It's 80-85F here, and I'm sweating. 55-60 is ideal in my opinion.

Spatchka 05-26-12 04:59 PM

Did my normal commute to work, and the ride in tomorrow and Monday will be extra nice because of the lack of traffic.

It was 90 something when I left work. Stopped at Centennial Park for a little live music.

Now at home with an ESB to take the edge off the day.

Get a load of this.

Today my 9-year-old daughter and I were riding our bikes in downtown Santa Fe. We were in slow-moving traffic going through 4-way stops. I could hear that there was a big vehicle behind us, but I made no effort to move over because it would not have done that driver any good (he just would have gotten to the stop sign a few seconds faster if we had), and we weren't breaking any laws. Eventually we moved into a right-turn lane at a stop sign. The truck pulls up next to us. Turns out it was a fire engine. A firefighter sticks his head out the window and says, "You really should ride on the side of the road and you should move over for us." I just gave him a "thumbs up," but my thumb was not the finger I felt like raising.

Spatchka 05-27-12 04:19 PM

Felt hotter coming home today, temp at the bank said 93° as I passed.
Other than that, very quiet downtown.
I know I'm not the only one who commutes on the weekend.
One more day for my week.

Rimmer 05-28-12 02:04 PM

Quite pleasant, there wasn't much traffic today due to Memorial Day. I turned one corner from a stop with a slight ascent a bit too sharp just nicking my pedal a hair.

dygituljunky 05-28-12 04:18 PM

Very nice ride. Almost nobody else on the road due to Memorial Day. Beautiful partly cloudy weather, dark blue sky.

dude72 05-29-12 02:39 AM

nice warm weather. rode very easily past the car drivers that were stuck in the traffic jam - i just love my bike!!!

fletchh 05-29-12 04:35 AM

A nice warm morning at 73f (23c). The ride was very good and I will keep an eye on the air quality for the afternoon.

dcb23 05-29-12 05:24 AM

Did some maintenance yesterday including brake adjustments and removing the middle support from my rear fender...it was rubbing and the fender seems just fine w/out it.

Warm comimg in but nice to be back in the saddle.

vtjim 05-29-12 06:10 AM

Wet this morning. 70F/21C and sticky. Thunder storms are popping up all over. We had some over night and they're still rolling through. I put on the rain gear and hoped for the best. About 2 blocks from work, the skies opened.

The good news is: My new Bontrager Stormshell jacket worked great. The side vents made it not-as-sauna-like as a simple plastic shell, too.

tarwheel 05-29-12 07:39 AM

I passed a large turtle in the road during my bike commute to work this morning. I turned around to go get it off the road, which had curbs too high for it to climb over. By the time I got back to the turtle, some jerk had already run over it in his car. Some people are such idiots. That turtle might have been 50 years old, for all I know as it was very large.

HardyWeinberg 05-29-12 09:43 AM

45F and sunny, nice.

dcrowell 05-29-12 11:27 AM

It was 68F and cloudy when I woke up. It was 66F and storming when I rode to work. We had flash flooding. A local viaduct was closed due to high water, I went around the cop car blocking the road and tried to ride through. I stopped just before the water was hub-deep and turned around. I was carrying a laptop and didn't want to drown it. The cop laughed at me when I came back by him.

I was prepared. I had dry clothes and a towel wrapped in plastic. Now if only my cycling clothes will dry before I have to put them back on....

making 05-29-12 01:52 PM

I hate putting on wet clothes.

Rimmer 05-29-12 02:53 PM

It was about 85F with a max of 90F. The wind and random light rain felt really good together. Some ass cut me off this morning right before a left turn then drives slow.

gevad 05-29-12 04:30 PM

Dang it was hot coming home today! About 90F (32C), which is about right for late July here in Washington, DC -- except it's late May! Oh well, some storms rolling, so maybe we'll get some weather that's less hot and humid. Or maybe not.

alexaschwanden 05-29-12 11:51 PM

Mid 60's and little wind, but traffic was a little bit packed.

fletchh 05-30-12 04:40 AM

A robust storm came through last night and cooled everything off, then it continued light rain for a few hours more. A cloudy morning ride at 70f (21c). I was coming down a hill at a good clip, and in the middle I have to make a right turn, so while in that cockeyed position going around the corner, I saw a large deer dart to the side. I pulled up and looked for more, but didn't see any. That would have been a very bad position to be in, if the deer had come closer.

essiemyra 05-30-12 05:24 AM

the temp was 55f so it was warm enough to go with out a jacket, but very foggy this am. A very nice ride though and the smell of beach roses permeated the air some of the time, that is such a nice smell.

vtjim 05-30-12 05:54 AM

66F/19C & slightly humid, with no wind. No rain today. A dead, squished creature was in the middle of the road, getting pecked by a crow. Nom nom nom.

I lucked out yesterday. Big storm system roiled up the region but left the Burlington area largely untouched. I got sprinkled on a little bit riding home. I expected to get inundated.

dcb23 05-30-12 06:36 AM

Still, warm morning. I'm still not used to the light out. Yesterday I had a strong crosswind / headwind coming home.

FenderTL5 05-30-12 06:44 AM

Thunderstorms last night. This morning; humid, upper 60s with lots of fog.

andboy 05-30-12 07:51 AM

Woke up this morning and nearly went back to sleep... I could hear the wind left over from the thunderstorms and when I opened the garage door there was some lightning still around. So I thought this would be a good time to put on the pannier covers.

Not more than 10 minutes out the door, a pickup went past so close I could feel the wing mirror and exhaust. I shouted at the guy, more out of fear and surprise than anything else, who then swerved in front of me and skidded, trying to get me to hit him. He did that twice more before I managed to get out of his way and call the police. I couldn't believe it. Never had this before. I got his plate number and called the police again when I got to work. They had no record of me calling this morning, so I gave the information again.

All drivers information for Texas is on publicdata.com also, so that's handy, I can drop some educational material about sharing the road and aggressive driving in his mail box.

After I got over that, it was a nice commute, no rain, puddles had cleared up, lightning died down, wind was out of the east and not south. Nice change.

I do plan on getting a video camera now though.

tarwheel 05-30-12 10:07 AM

Drove today since Tropical Storm Beryl is crossing NC. I am not so dedicated that I will ride in pouring rain with high winds. My legs needed a break anyway so I'm taking a much-needed rest day.
